  1. Who needs newspapers - we've got Scotty great summary of an entertaining game. Nothing to add except I trust the Ref's Association will look into the fact we were robbed of 6-7 minutes of play. Professional referees? My arse.
  2. For those who are driving from a distance. I live 15 minutes from Ewood. The roads are clear but many local roads have not been gritted and are very icy. We have a beautiful bright, very cold morning. Can't imagine there being a problem with the game but take care on the local roads. Those of us who use Albion Mill to park - it's gonna be fun getting in and out of there!

    Bye Bye Youri

Blackburn Rovers have today announced that Youri Djorkaeff will be leaving Ewood at the end of December. Djorkaeff joined the club as a free-agent last summer but it has been mutually agreed to end his time at the club. It's thought Yori originally signed a contract until December 31st
  4. Blackburn Rovers have received an official enquiry for Paul Dickov from Birmingham City. Rovers have turned down the approach with John Williams, chief executive, stating: "We rejected the approach and Paul also made it clear that he was very happy here and had no intention of leaving" Dickov was signed by Rovers former manager Graeme Souness for £150,000 from Leicester City last summer. With the January transfer window only 10 days away it is likely fans will soon hear firm news of possible comings and goings at Ewood Park.
  5. None, we didn't receive any penalties in season 2003/04. What was it 54 games prior to City that we got our last penalty?
  6. Hell of a walk that. At least he'll have seen first hand the benefit of closing Bolton Road after the game as the masses swarm up LBR
  7. I hope we can all be big enough to applaud Alan Shearer for the fantastic player he has been. As for Souness, as SG says above - ignore him totally. OK if we are 3-0 up with two minutes to go a chorus of "Souness, what's the score?" but booing etc. should be a complete No, No.
  8. Philip, I usually agree with much of what you post but that is way over the top. There may be local residents who have a parking issue on match day- I don't know if that's true or not, other than many local roads were made resident's Parking Permit two years ago. The journo would presumably have been given a club parking spot for free and is doing nothing other than having the usual media pop at Rovers. Local parking is not an issue for fans. The only road I know of closed around Ewood on match days is Bolton Road, for about ten minutes after the game. Surely 20,000 people crossing the same road at once does need policing? I'd agree Saturday's crowd was poor but it's nothing to do with local residents.
  9. I think tapping the ball into an empty net comes under the heading 'interfering with play' Paul. Gally was unforgivably unprofessional in not checking his run cos he ran past 2 defenders into a (well) offside position and could see right along the line whilst he did it. The new rule comes into play because should Reid have scored himself under the old rule the goal would have been disallowed cos of Gally's position. Yes I appreciate that. The point which confused me is that Gally was clearly offside by a yard - you're right he should not have been there - I wondered if the keeper spilling the ball had the effect of playing him onside. Obviously not. If a player is stood in an offside position and an opponent plays the ball to him he becomes onside?

    Short Layoff

Blackburn Rovers central defender Craig Short will miss the important Christmas fixtures after being substituted on 21 minutes yesterday. Short clashed with an Everton player a couple of minutes earlier and was then replaced by Nissa Johansson. Rovers are reporting Short has a slight hamstring injury and will be out for two weeks. For reaction to yesterday's game have a look at the Rovers 0 Everton 0 thread LINK to Match Report
  11. Gally was offside but was he interferring with play? I'm confused about the rule now.
  12. Rumblings from the Tyne: Independent Guardian Times Defeat at Anfield and at Ewood would really help
  13. To my mind these are very accurate match reports: Observer and in The Independent Must admit I left Ewood feeling somewhat negative but on reflection we performed far better than I first thought. My initial reaction came from watching a dire game with little excitment for the whole 90 minutes. Everton showed the attacking ambition of a dead sheep, packing 9 men behind the ball and with our lack of a truely creative player this was bound to make life difficult. Moyes has made his team very difficult to beat and hopes to nick a result on the break. A few weeks back Everton would have won this match. However Rovers were solid throughout the team, keeping control of the ball (a major improvement being how few mis-placed passes we made) and working hard. Emerton provided the only creative spark and with his current short-comings was never going to create much danger. I wish he would get to the bye-line more often and learn how to take a corner. Our best chances came in the first 10 minutes and the last 4-5. We should have scored in the first ten and from there we might have had a very entertaining game. I presume Hughes was looking to ensure we got the point that was the least we deserved but I feel Gally should have been given 20 minutes or more. Haven't seen his "goal" yet but I'm interested some are arguing the keeper spilled it to play Gally onside - my youngest said the same thing straight after the game. Lots to be positive about: 16th one defeat in 8 teams below us getting tonked our goal difference is still appalling but others are catching up Feeling much more confident this morning, we NEED to beat Newcastle in front of decent crowd. Only 17,500 Rovers there yesterday. Morph was saying every manager has his time at a club, referring to Souness, I'm beginning to feel Hughes is the man for today and the next few years.
  14. We don't have the strikers to do that. I do not understand why Gallagher only got 7 minutes today. Jay did very little in the game and against a sterile Everton tean an imaginative player like Gally would have caused real problems.
  15. Seems to me this post sums up the whole situation.
  16. Frankly I can't believe what I'm reading from some posters on Brad. In all seriousness - and not to have a pop - do you actually watch the games? Sure he's not as good as two years ago, primarily because the defence is utter crap. Many of our goals are conceded because the defenders are quite literally missing or left trailing in the wake of the opposition, alternatively individual defenders make elementary errors in front of goal. The only time Brad could be criticised since arriving at Ewood would be in a few games last season when he had a torrid time with 3 or 4 goals from direct free kicks. Unbelievable remarks against our most consistent player in a period when those in front of him have been a total and utter disgrace to the club and shirt. If Brad is up for this type of criticism what do Ferguson, Emerton, etc. to a name a couple, deserve?
  17. I meant to include this last night: England National Squash Championsips 4 x semi-finals and 2 x finals matches - £32 for me and the lad - 6 hours squash at the highest level England - Australia Test Match at OT - 3 adults, 2 kids - £72 This is top quality sport at affordable prices
  18. Just thought I'd delay the Hughes Out thread until I'd seen the highlights Oh forgot to mention Thommo before. What an idiot, does he not understand we are short of players? Apparently he's desperate to get playing again? A totally undisciplined, childish, petulant performance has ensured you get an extra day off at Christmas. A whole extra day to throw your toys out of the pram. You're paid thousands a week to be a professional - start acting like one. If my kids behaved like that in sport they'd have a lot more than the ref to deal with. Rule No1, whatever happens keep your concentration and walk away.
  19. I can only base my remarks on MOTD. The higlights showed we had at least 5 clear cut chances and should have put one of those away. Palace seem to have been restricted to two shots. Other than that the TV showed we were the better team all round. Hughes is improving things, the players are fitter, we are no longer shipping goals like a leaky collander. The problem is scoring and until we recruit a quality scorer will continue to be so. Stead, Gally, Jansen are all capable od doing a job, how good a job remains to be seen. Dickov works hard, getting on the nerves of the opposition but he is not a quality striker. Good signing etc but not a proven goal-scorer
  20. That's a comment on the PL not Rovers
  21. Well I was raging from the rooftops Flopsy. You're right Stead needs help and there ain't anyone to give it to him
  22. They really are taking the p1ss. Enquired about tickets for the Bolton game for our family of five: Four Adults (over 16) plus one under 16 Bolton Wanderers v Blackburn Rovers £159 + £2 booking fee = £161 - 90 minutes football For roughly the same money a family of five can: EuroDisney £140 – 12 hours Scrooge The Musical Manchester £67.50 – 2.5 hours Sainsbury – weeks family shop £120 and £40 left to take the kids out to the cinema, bowling and a burger Liverpool – Barcleona for Mr and Mrs Paul - £80 return total. Hotels?? £120 plus spendies £50– 3 days £250 Household Gas and Electric for month - £76 – one game of footie or two months heat, light, hot water? Christmas booze – 2 x bottle malt (£40ish) 40 bottles Stella (£20) Case of wine (£80) Total £140 change for a half decent bottle of champagne I really do think I've had enough
  23. Keep it going Den, we've done 9 out of the 11 and the final 2 are a formality anyway. It'll be just like coitus reservatus otherwise. Anyway, my panegyric to Ashley Ward is burning a hole on my C drive. (spell check that!) I'd go for a Christmas break. I think the striker debate could be very interesting plus I don't think Shearer/Garner is a foregone conclusion - though I did a few weeks back. Don't forget people will be away, some only access the site from work etc.
  24. It's not going to rain
