Summer Transfer Window 2019

But then we’re back to keeping players on for reasons other than their footballing ability. I wish TM was this ruthless with more of them. Elliot wouldn’t be sleeping so well if so. -

I’m disappointed with the window but to be honest I didn’t think TM had the stones to push out one of his favourites. TM gets rightly criticised for his loyalty so i’ll give him some credit for being ruthless for once. Mulgrew isn’t a loss. Our defence improved when he wasn’t in it last season. Not replacing Mulgrew is a different issue. -

Underwhelmed and a missed opportunity but not a disaster. Marginally stronger than last season but not by much. Cunningham and Johnson are definite upgrades. Walton and Tosin are unknowns. Downing and Gallagher could do well but surely the money could have gone elsewhere. My optimism rests in Dack, Travis, Johnson, Rothwell, Buckley and Cunningham. Get the right players on the pitch and we could go ok. If we persevere with Bell, Bennett, Evans and Smallwood then we’re in trouble. -

A bad window and you’re refusing to go? After all these years, this is where you’ve drawn the line? Chief Exec and Manager try to spin their way through a fans forum. That’s life. Take it with a pinch of salt. They’ll all say what we want to hear. Every manager plays that game, let’s not pretend TM is the first. I said I’d wait to judge until tomorrow and the writing is clearly on the wall. But save the drama. Far greater crimes have been committed at this club over the last 10 years. TM has now made his bed. He’s had time and money to get the squad to where it should be. If the results don’t come in then it’ll be time to move on. The credit from 17/18 has run out. -

Can’t see Dack going now. We’re not desperate to sell and £12m is around £8m shy of the going rate for decent Championship players. -
Rovers v Charlton

I can’t remember being so deflated after a result. That was pitiful. I’m angry with myself that I’ve got tickets for next week. Waste of time. Such an awful start to the season. I’m not looking for heads to roll but there needs to be an immediate response otherwise this could get ugly fast. Completely ruined the weekend. Will say that Johnson looked a massive step up in midfield. The only consolation. -
Tony Mowbray Discussion
magicalmortensleftpeg replied to Neal's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
I gave him a pass last year. He had credit in the bank and ultimately we ended up on a par score. This year there needs to be improvement and today suggests that we’re miles away. I’ll give him until mid-Sept but patience is rapidly running out. -
Rovers v Charlton

The most pathetic display I’ve seen in years. Truly awful. Against the weakest side in the division who did nothing all game. Furious. Bad team selection to start with but yet again, it’s the defence that falls apart. Mulgrew is nowhere, Bennett a liability and Bell half asleep. Walton looks less reliable than Raya which is an achievement. His days are numbered if this carries on. -
Rovers v Charlton

Disagree. It’s been underwhelming but we’re marginally stronger than last year. Reed is the only miss and I’d suggest that Johnson is a decent replacement along with Travis stepping up. Gallagher and Downing give us much better depth. Walton for Raya is marginal. -

Brereton has more potential imo and even then he’s hardly first choice. Nuttall’s game looks far more limited. He could tear up L1 but I’d be surprised. Of all the business we’ve done this summer, this is one piece that I don’t think we’ll regret. -

Surprised by some of the reaction to the Nuttall sale. He never looked remotely up to Championship standards. Selling Raya without an adequate replacement lined up is certainly worthy of criticism. Getting shot of our 5th choice striker for around 750k is not. The fact that Samuel is still here is surely due to a lack of buyers rather than being ahead of anyone in the pecking order. -

Mowbray has also made about 10 substitutions. Does he know that he can only make 3 in a league game? He either doesn’t get the rules or doesn’t want it. Or maybe it’s just a pre-season game. Let’s at least wait until Charlton before losing our collective s***. -

If the replacement is miles better, yes. i get the point you’re trying to make but Raya wasn’t one of our best players last season and certainly isn’t irreplaceable. Dack is slightly different. Im underwhelmed but prepared to give him a chance. -

If we had signed Adam there would be outcry. ANOTHER midfielder. ANOTHER has-been 30-something. MORE cash spent that should be going towards a defender or GK. We don’t need another midfielder. If our season falls apart over Charlie Adam signing for Reading, I’d be surprised. If ever this forum needed some actual football games to talk about.. -

Summer Transfer Window 2019
magicalmortensleftpeg replied to Neal's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
It hasnt been awful. Conway and Rodwell won’t be missed. I’d argue that Downing and Johnson are more useful players to have. Raya will depend on the replacement(s). The window hasn’t been great by any stretch. I’m a bit disappointed given some of the talk in May, however the squad is marginally stronger and there are still signings to come. We’ve kept our best players and we’re gradually strengthening. Not awful in my book. -

So we will either win, lose or draw. You’ve stuck your neck out with that one. -

I understood that Holtby had already agreed to go to Galatasary before he trained with us. Our priority isn’t central midfield. I’m very pleased with the Johnson signing and with Travis/Buckley coming through, it’s hard to justify bringing Adam in. Don’t think we’ll regret that one if it falls through. -

Raya is the only first team player we have lost and we’re yet to see his replacement. I agree that if we don’t get a decent keeper through the door then we’re struggling but otherwise, the squad is stronger than last season at this stage. Bradley Johnson certainly improves us. Are we ready for a promotion push, probably not but I don’t think we should write off next season just yet. -

Happy enough with Gallagher. Not the most exciting but doubt we could attract much better. Also not comfortable with blowing the bank on a marquee name given FFP etc. Johnson, Downing and Gallagher represent decent enough business and improve the squad. A keeper and CB need to be the priority from now on. -

magicalmortensleftpeg replied to Neal's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
All depends who we replace him with. Cant label it an error until we see how Raya develops over time. Im on the fence. Seems an odd one considering how relatively small the fee appears to be. Don’t think many of us were complaining when he got dropped at the end of the season so if we can get a decent replacement in, I’ll be alright with it. Happy with Johnson. Established championship player and certainly an improvement on what we have. -

I’ll judge him by his actions. If he said all the right things at this moment in time but failed to improve the squad before August, I’d feel the same way. Positive intentions mean nothing if he can’t deliver. I’m not getting carried away with his recent comments in the same way that I didn’t get carried away with his previous ones. -

Why don’t we wait until the transfer window shuts to determine whether it’s been a success or not..
