January Transfer Window.

What do you expect them to say? Come out and ask to be fired? GB has done the right thing by owning it and apologising. It means nothing if anything like this happens again, but it is still the right thing to do. -

Trying to stay rational with this but my god they’ve dropped a bollock here. The club have finally done the bare minimum and put out a statement and to be fair, they were on a hiding to nothing with it but at least it’s something. If I’m being super generous, I can possibly accept that the LoB deal was more complicated than most and it would have been a rush to get things over the line. However, there were several hours to sort it out and I can’t understand what the outside influences could be to prevent everything being submitted on time. But even if we give the club the benefit of the doubt on the LoB deal (which I’m not), the excuse for the Rochdale player is unacceptable. Paperwork not signed? Pathetic. One mistake is bad enough, but this is clearly a catalogue of failures. As for Broughton, I’m judging him on how he reacts to this. Front up, own it and do whatever it takes to avoid this from ever happening again. It’s one of the most embarrassing episodes in the club’s recent history. Turns out my mum was right all along. I should have switched my allegiances to Newcastle when Shearer left. And I’m a happy clapper. -

Very disappointed but not surprised. Will wait to hear more before fully judging but there needs to be an explanation. Some of the conspiracy nonsense is unnecessary, as is calling for everyone involved to be fired when we don’t know the facts. -

What exactly is Waggott meant to do after the deal has been agreed? This is down to whoever was handling the paperwork. -

Is this actually an appeal though? Nixon said that the registration has been rejected but Sharpe is saying that it has yet to be approved - which are slightly different things. -

We’re three days in, if it was happening, it would have happened. There’s no chance it’s going through. I’m not allowing myself to think otherwise. Supporting Rovers is so much easier if you never have hope. -

I remember the 05/06 season when we struggled to get over 20k attendances most weeks and that was with a team that finished 6th in the PL. Think we only got 16k for Fulham on the opening day. -

Forest didn’t win an appeal when they missed the deadline by 10 seconds. Unless there are uniquely exceptional circumstances, it’s over. It wouldn’t be a consolation but if that’s the reason for the O’Brien deal falling apart, why hasn’t the Rochdale player gone through? -

The deal won’t have fallen apart due to not understanding the need for a permanent contract. It will simply be down to how long it took to draw up and submit. The fact that we ended up submitting it but it’s taking nearly a full day for the EFL to consider clearly suggests that it’s coming down to seconds either side of the deadline. -

But if it wasn’t agreed at all then why are we still waiting for news? It sounds like we got everything agreed but submitted the paperwork late. Whatever the circumstances, if it was happening, we’d know by now. Waste of time. -

No way this gets over the line now. There better be a phenomenal excuse to explain it. -

I’m not putting a lot of weight on that article. A very broad overview of their window, not a statement that the deal is off. The silence this morning is far more damning. I assume Forest pulled the plug at the last minute. -

I can’t see it having gone through. It’s one thing delaying the announcement from midnight to the morning but there’s no reason to keep it under wraps now. Want to be proven wrong but rapidly losing hope/interest. -

That wouldn’t make it better. You can’t react to every rumour on the internet with a statement providing a transfer update before anything is final, just because some fans would like to hear about it. Presumably, there is a reason for why we haven’t announced anything - possibly because there isn’t anything to announce. I doubt the club are doing this for the sake of it. -

Atletico Madrid just pipped us to that one. -

Butterworth put in some pathetic performances last year. Nowhere near up to it. Both will end up at a similar level to Joe Nuttall in a couple of years. -
I don’t think this gets mentioned enough. We’ve overachieved to get to where we are in the table and it’s an indictment on the league that we can lose so many games and still be third. It’s been a bizarre season and it would be incredible if we could keep it up, but I’d be very (pleasantly) surprised if we finished top 6. Last year felt like we’d earned the right to say we were in the mix. This feels like a complete fluke.

Clubs like Brighton in the PL? Because their financial/league situation is directly comparable to ours..? If we sold BBD, fans would scream that the owners lack ambition. The owners write off a potential transfer fee to keep hold of our best player and we’re a ‘backwards club’ who don’t want to get promoted. Can’t win. -

Last Jan, the primary concern was that the owners were going to cash in on Lenihan, Rothwell and BBD. The fact that we retained all three and signed several (Giles, Zeefuik, Markanday and Hedges) was more than most expected. In hindsight, it didn’t work out, but I don’t blame a lack of ambition. -
I’m disappointed with the likely home attendance although understand the reasons. The overall criticism of Waggott is justified, but he got the prices right for tonight so that’s not an excuse. The fact that away fans will likely outnumber home fans tonight is a real shame - considering the ticket price and that we’ve had a decent season so far. Saying that, the league takes priority and Forest are hardly a glamour tie so not worth losing sleep over.
