[Archived] 2005/6 Season Ticket Sales
bob fleming replied to Mike Graham's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Blimey Alan, your postman gets round early! Ours normally turns up at about 10.00 with bills. If it's any consolation I haven't got my season ticket yet either and neither has the bloke who sits behind me. Maybe they're sending them out in blocks? Anyway, Mrs F has hers and I have some bad news. The DVD thing doesn't come in a betamax format, just something called a "DVD" (looks just like one of those CD thingys to me). Talk about alienating your fan base. Nice one Rovers. -
[Archived] It's Been Done To Death But.....
bob fleming replied to Gav's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Don't be so defeatist, I'm sure that if someone could sit down and have an adult conversatin with Mr Jackson he'd eventually see sense and play Reign In Blood before every home match. It suits our image down to the ground at the moment. At the very least they should play that for the night matches. With all the lights off. And strobe light effects for when the players come out. The kids'll love it. OK maybe not. "I Predict A Riot" will do. Or that "Clubfoot" or that "All These Things That I Have Done". Whatever it is - stick with it. Actually no. I like American's idea of that Darth Vader music. In fact here it is. Although I don't think it's the original, it doesn't sound quite as menacing when it's performed by mice. If that doesn't get 'em going nothing will. -
Haddawayishite. I'll give you that. I suppose he's a Newcastle fan as well is he? Or maybe he's just on the waiting list for a season ticket? This Link (The Seventies and Eighties) states that Newcastle's gates actually dropped below 8,000 in the 70's. I remember vaguely going to St James in the 1980's to watch Rovers and there was about 12,000 on. Sure it's dangerous for a Rovers fan to comment on such things as gates (we know our place) but then again we don't go on about being such a "massive" club. So, in the space of a few years you've found another 40,000 fans, I'd say they were glory hunters but that would really be taking the p*** - as this "article". points out, you haven't won an existing domestic trophy since 1955. It must be hard for such a well supported club to be so unsuccessful, it must really take some doing wasting all that gate money. Good news is though paddy is that with the current management team in place up there you'll be able to keep your record going for a while yet. If you want to come on here talking utter garbage then I'd at least wait until Newcastle have won a trophy so we can take you seriously, until then I'd pipe down a bit.

[Archived] Preseasons - UK Ones
bob fleming replied to Steve_Cercle's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Who are Panionions?! Granted, I wouldn't pay more than a fiver to watch some team that sounds like a dodgy Greek stir fry ingredient either. But that's yer Londoners init mate? They'll watch anythin that lot. At least Espanyol are half decent - aren't they? -

£15? It's not so bad. I'd have liked it cheaper of course but then again what did I expect? Please, someone find me another Premier League club (other than Fulham ) that is playing a pre-season friendly at home and charging £15 or below to watch. What purpose do these friendlies have? Well, there's match fitness of course - that's quite important. Also it gives the fans a chance to see the new players and the team again before the season starts. Some of these games have been very entertaining (Barca, Sporting) and in some instances give the fans the chance to see the new over weight and well past it Spanish left winger (you may never get the chance again, especially if you blink). I'd imagine they'd be even more people moaning if they played all pre-season games away from home to be honest, then again I may be wrong. -
Not so sure Gav, Wigan fans will be on a new bandwagon rather than Rugby League (which is going pear shaped at the moment for them), it's a new stadium for away fans to visit, free pie tasting at half time, one season in the premiership. It's a novelty thing for all concerned. It'll be close I reckon. £50? Make it a fiver. Then again, it's not my money - do it man! Do it for Blackburn Rovers!
-
It could be that his ankle is severely dehydrated? It's quite common on German pre-season tours. Schalke 04 lost half their squad for the first three months of the 02-03 season through such a thing, it can be a right "schwein".
-
Now then - this "working from home" lark is brilliant isn't it? I just need to do a days work before 10.30 if you'll excuse me. Could go either way obviously, couldn't possibly gloat yesterday morning as it was clear that the wicket was more than lively. Hats off to McGrath though . Should be a couple of good days cricket coming up.
-
That's similar to the amount I heard at the time but I gave up trying to make that point as John Williams apparently told someone on here that no one was on that amount of money at the club. I also heard that Dwight Yorke was on £50k per week.
-
I'll say 25 then.

I don't think so Boberto. I can reveal that it was almost certainly an operation to enable him to get his head over the ball to stop hitting shots high into the Blackburn End. One of the side effects of such an operation is of course massive hair loss. Anyone who saw little Thommo on Sky at Manchester Airport will know I'm telling the truth (yet again). Either that or it was his knee again. I don't know.

I thought that was Sky Sports News? So (apologies if this has already been mentioned), just days after Freddie Shepherd stated that they've changed their transfer policy and will now along be going for players of a certain "character" Souness states that he wants to buy all round good lad Nic Anelka? Tremendous.

[Archived] Craig Bellamy - Good Signing Or Not?
bob fleming replied to Modi's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Good old Souey... "He created the problem and he continued with the problem and that will be my last word on Craig Bellamy. It is the last time I will speak about him." 10 seconds later.... "Dyer is the obvious replacement for Bellamy - and he will score more goals," added Souness. "Craig only averaged nine goals a season and I see Kieron bettering that from the same position." Nice one Graeme. Now try keeping it shut for a little longer. As for Bellamy - he may well grow up soon. He might be a @#/? but at least he's our @#/? - whenever we played Newcastle I always thought we'd struggle - mainly because of the pace of this fella. A truly exciting player. I'm made up. -
Blue and White halves?!? Brilliant. I'll have two.
-
Thanks for that squire. Another question for you - is it definitely a brand new design? or just the same shirt as last year but with Lonsdale as the sponsor? Probably a silly question but I don't recall seeing confirmation anywhere (some smart arse will no doubt post a link). Cheers
-
Ha Ha! Very good Gareth! When is it out? Lee? Vinjay? Chairman Williams? Anyone?
-
No, the squad numbers will be out at the beginning of October this year. It's because the new away shirt was released so early. I expect the new home shirt will be released when we announce our next signing on August 31st (2005).

I don't know what's more frightening, my reading the last 40 pages of this thread or Bryan getting this spot on. Exactly 12 premier league goals last year for A.C.

Here's the article in full, in last nights LET, apologies if this has already been posted elsewhere (edit: which it has - John posted in Boardroom Restructure thread). "Question: Finally, you mentioned naming rights. Does that mean you would consider renaming Ewood Park if someone offered to sponsor the ground? John: Yes, we would but in that event we would have to be extremely careful and balance the need for funds with the rich history and heritage we've got and obviously want to keep." -

Not the comfy chair!! Put the haddock down Flopsy, they've actually quoted Chairman Williams, a dangerous thing to do if he hasn't actually said it. I fully expect Andy Nield, as I understand it, to report this tomorrow in the LET. It won't be in tonight as they'll be on about the new Chef. As for the name change. Inevitable I suppose (that's not the new name "inevitable"). If it means getting "silly" money in - for nothing - then fair enough, it's the way things ae going. It'll alway's be Ewood to me though (just as the Riverside will always be the Riverside). -
