[Archived] Verdict On Souness
adopted scouser replied to philipl's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
I know we've only played one game, and that this thread could turn into a Souness out/in whatever, but Sat round a barbeque last night necking Carlsberg and talking about the footie. One or two of the neighbours started to pour scorn on Souey's management skills, and the way in which he took Liverpool backwards, getting rid of the boot room etc etc. In the past I've fought his corner, "we won the worthy cup" "we finished 6th" etc, but for the first time last night I started to agree with them. Sorry lads but West Brom at home should have been a stroll. It took old war horse Shorty to pull us out of the sh1t. I've often admired Souness' honesty, chuckling at his 'tell it like it is' approach, but that went into the bin after Dwight Yorke. "I want men not babies" and all that, then singing his praises and "we need players like Dwight" eh ? ----------------------------------------------- Fans are notoriously fickle, and if we stuff Southampton I'll probably change my tune, but shouldn't we be optimistic with all our players back from injury ? I'm not, not at all, sorry. -

Newly promoted clubs always come out of the traps quickly, eager to make a good impression, and wasn't their goal deflected ? Liverpool drew aswell so I'm fine ! -
Wined dined on Abramovich's yacht, slipping it to Ulrika and paid 4 million pounds a year for the privilege. What have England won ? Fook all

Surprised really about the stick Abramovich gets. Whilst his spending is exceptional, why complain when a multi millionaire invests in a football club ? (Didn't do our litle club any harm a while back). My boss is currently at loggerheads with a bunch of amateurs running a premiership club (It'll take you about two minutes to figure out which one). They regularly pull in sellout gates for home matches, spend very little on players and are apparently skint. He has been offered £30m by two seperate parties that I know of and still they dismiss changes in the day to day administration and structure of the board. Add to that a suggestion three years ago that they invest around £65k improving the sales and concessions areas that would have netted them at least £200k pa, and they refused. Pathetic. It'll be interesting to see how this one pans out. Without change, I'm tipping them to go down in spectacular style next season. -

When did I get annoyed ? Christ, talk about over the top. "The tactics of elite members", bloody hell, I only suggested ways of improving donations. Please one and all, ignore my proposal. How unthinkable to have "Sponsor" under your avatar and help the site, but acceptable to have "Moderator" there confirming your superior status. I proposed an idea that made financial sense, doused by sour grapes at "we gave last time and didn't tell anyone, so we're taking our ball home". Forget it. -

My point exactly More mature than pathetic. A simple idea that would have generated contributions quickly will now be cast aside because some of the 'original 27' are kicking their teddies up the street. -

Touchy aren't we ? It was only a suggestion, the purpose of which was to raise funds quickly. Seems daft to me to stand on the deck of a sinking ship and argue about the water, but you know best. -

Can't agree with that at all mate. It would demonstrate to others the members who really want to support the site, and maybe generate a little guilt leading to further contributions. Thirty odd members at £4 a month and you're sorted. Implement such a scheme and I'm first on the list, the site would still be free to everyone else after all. -

I've got no problem coughing up a few quid to sponsor the site. Can I make a suggestion ? More people would sponsor the site if their avatar has the word "Sponsor" underneath it in red. Try it, you might be surprised. -
Just spotted this - cheeky monkey ! I don't post as much as I used to, don't have the time these days. Just sweating in an office in Torquay at the moment, thought I'd have a quick look on here. A Barney can be quite refreshing at times. Bry, do I assume that to participate as a spectator you merely stay on the fence, chucking in the odd low ball to keep the row fired up ? If that's the case then count me in - tremendous fun ! Where's Rosie these days ?

England have been awful, the only reason we're winning is the Portugese knack of blasting over the bar. I'm cacking it

At least it caused a ripple of interest. By the way, if he comes back an ankle's £500.

Watched it in a packed pub last night. How the hell do you lose a game when you're one up at 89 minutes ? Sven's taken a leaf out of Houllier's book watching England in the second half, they sat so deep it could have been 'boring boring' Liverpool. Oh well, lots of bitter beer and a kebab have given me tummy ache this morning, where's me antacid ? On a lighter note, Watching the Croatia game earlier, Mark Lawrenson commented "It takes a lot of training to be a natural left footer" You said it mate -
Uniformed whores, Work within the law Spot on Smiffy - try telling Abbey ! The troops on the ground don't make the laws they just enforce them. I agree with the rest of the country when it comes to inappropriate speed restrictions, a government cash machine that has alienated the Police from many people who were previously happy to assist the boys in blue. Is there a gatso outside my daughter's school when cars are ripping up and down at 8.30 in the morning ? Too easy to spot, low conviction target, too expensive.... you guessed it - no camera. Safety cameras my @rse. If they were genuinely placed to increase the safety of the public they would be in areas where that would be effective. I drive a lot for a living, what danger am I travelling at 85mph on the M6 ? None, until I spy a guy on a motorway bridge pointing a speed gun at the traffic creating danger as motorists swerve and brake irrationally to avoid him. As for that cr@p "it's simple, just don't speed", stop making home made jam, button up your cardigans and come out into the real world. It's about time restrictions were enforced in appropriate areas. Schools, accident blackspots, areas where the motoring public would actually give their support.

Just Champagned Mozzer's album sorry BOUGHT IT AT ASDA. Had it on in the car, haven't made my mind up yet. "I've been dreaming of a time when to be English is not to be baneful to be standing by the flag, not feeling shameful" Oh Aye.
