For some reason we thought it might be interesting to produce a high-quality cotton, long-sleeve, three button shirt…we then wondered if we should pay homage to the fine Mediterranean island of Malta. Apparently. It’s 211 years since Malta became a British Crown colony so wholly appropriate that we call out the anniversary, I’m sure you agree. We are therefore offering one of these as a competition prize across the forum and our social media channels. When they’ve done reduced price tickets previously, they’ve copped some flak for undermining the value of a season ticket. I suspect what they are doing here is trying to compensate for that by saying the offer is only open to s/t holders so it’s a benefit to them alone & they can bring someone of their choosing. If it was £10 ticket to anyone, then the s/t offer is undermined more than it is by doing it this way. It’s a bit like having a finite number of guest passes to the gym for your mates. The hope is that you bring your mate, they like it & sign up. You’re happy because your mate now goes to the same gym, they’re happy because they got a free visit or two & the gym is happy because they’ve acquired a new customer. It’s that principle.

I imagine it’s so it can be sold as a benefit to season ticket holders to try & prevent accusations of undermining the value of buying a season ticket.

This is the crux for me. Finite disposable to spend & priority calls to be made. I weigh up which matches to go to based on my personal xE score…Expected Entertainment..! If it’s a new ground, an exciting away day, involves meeting up with friends/family…the xE rises. Rovers playing well contributes to the xE but is no longer the key contributor. I’ve found I’d rather go to fewer games (invariably away) but wrap something into the day beyond just the football. Once that habit is broken & you start justifying the spending then it’s easier just to watch on TV. That explains the missing 13,000. The 8,000 are like I was in the 80’s…I’d sell my granny to go to Ewood. My tipping point was Owen Coyle….the closest I got to buying a season ticket again was after meeting JDT at Brockhall…!

They’ve already got this season’s season ticket money - a boycott of next season’s season tickets would definitely make waves. That is the only metric that seems to resonate with Suhail.
