  1. Honestly thought it was a superb piece of analysis and I think the recruitment side is hugely helped by data and analytics and least to start to identify players to supplement visual scouting I wonder if even more so than ever scouting based on data becomes very tailored to the manager though as they may be identified due to specific metrics to suit a desired style of play. Of course that’s always been the case that certain players don’t fit in with new managers but I wonder if it’s even more likely this way
  2. As someone who spends a good chunk of their working life on some form of data analysis I will say first and foremost I am often in awe of the presentation and methods used in the analysis, at times it’s the theory I am not fully aligned with For me there’s a place in football for it but I see it more in a sense of spotting weaknesses in players games and then highlighting where they need to improve. If I’m going to present anything to our ExCo or HR director then the biggest thing in my mind is the ‘so what?’ I can produce a long deck with lots of figures and stats but there has to be a key message to take away or it’s meaningless. That’s why I find tables such as the one posted in here recently as detrimental to the ‘reputation’ of data in football, there’s no real takeaway from it but we could infer something from a positional analysis of people in similar roles etc So for me, time and a place but it shouldn’t be shoehorned in where it’s not needed and should always be used as a consideration to go with what the eye can see.
  3. Crossed wires I think. It’s Alex Marrow that’s signing, welcome home (again) son
  4. And the Man of the Match? Former Rover Yann Songo’o
  5. Bloody Theatres and The Arts and they Scrooge McDuck money pools
  6. Brilliant game An absolute masterclass from Tuchel, Kante is on another plane of existence Reece James maybe even better tonight
  7. Thought it looked a blatant red in real time but the replay shows it was an accident and ended up looking like a lunge Effectively ended any chance of a comeback, not that they showed any signs of it
  8. But what xG and other metrics do prove is if there was a bit more ‘dew on the grass’………..
  9. Brilliant, it’s so perfectly random, I hope he goes and smashes it! He comes across as a big dope in the behind the curtain type clips, imagining him somewhere in Santiago not having a clue what’s going on tickles me. In fact Rovers need to be sending a camera crew with him!
  10. Never understand this rhetoric, certain clubs get heralded like they just deserve more meanwhile their amazing fans booed them off today and Delighted they got knocked out, if nothing else just to annoy to moron who kept banging on the hoardings today, hurt my ears that did!
  11. Noticed Chapman wished Shrewsbury well for their future, think he may be staying
  12. The problem with Armstrong for me is the haircut, with all the data and science in football these days I’m amazed that his fringe hasn’t been addressed!
  13. Some club Leicester. Genuine respect and love between the owner, players; manager and fans
  14. It seems almost every year this sort of thing gets confirmed elsewhere first
  15. Tranmere sack Keith Hill after securing a play off spot; but before the play offs take place
  16. Coincidence that the £2m pitch was announced by a Sky commentator on a live game. You’d almost think that was strategically dropped in there
  17. Bell posted a photo with #thelastdance Kaminski replied saying it’s been a pleasure and all the best for the future, seemed pretty clear he’s off
  18. Actively trying to flog Armstrong now: That’s out of my control. For Adam’s sake let’s hope the phone rings and someone offers us a ridiculous amount of money, we shake him by the hand and we say go and bang in loads of goals in the Premier League and we’ll use some of that money in the team and can find another striker who can bang loads of goals in.
  19. So frustrating that we play like this when there’s nothing to play for. If anything it strengthens the belief that this manager should be gone ASAP
  20. Why is Elliott coming on instead of Dolan when he’s off tomorrow? Nonsense
  21. Off topic but amazed they’ve let Waghorn back onto the pitch after clattering the post and properly whiplashing, has to be a concussion risk
  22. Hope Waghorn is ok he just nearly took the post out colliding with it at full pelt
  23. Still annoyed at that final game of the season when we played Birmingham away. Win and we would have been in Europe, we capitulated, Hughes left, Ince came in and the decline began
  24. He had an Amoruso of a debut after coming on as an early sub
  25. Never warmed to Douglas, better crosser than Bell but potentially a worse defender and cost us several goals. Agree with the petulant comment I recall 2 or 3 times he’s attempted to kick a free kick at an opponent, missed and just given them the ball back
