  1. The problem is though that Mokoena never wins the ball. Throughout the last few games I have often thought that we may as well be playing with ten men. It's easy to say with hindsight but Douglas shouldn't have been sold until another centre midfielder was bought. He's definitely better in a 4-42 than Mokoena.
  2. £2.05 to Feyenoord? How do they do it?
  3. That live text is awful. Is it done by a fourteen year old?
  4. Preston never give the number 12 to any players and have it in their official squad list as "the fans." We may give Pedersen the 11 and do the same. Hence, the season ticket confirmation packs.
  5. Coach Sven-Goran Eriksson said: "I'm sorry for him. But we have many players who can take that second striker role." Owen's not a second striker!
  6. It doesn't help that Giuly, one of his biggest stars, isn't even in the squad.
  7. Official site Is the second leg really on a monday four days after the first leg?
  8. Me and my mate are in Berlin for the last week of the tournament (3rd July-10th July). We may head over to Munich for (hopefully) England's semi final match even though we don't have tickets but will probably save our money and stay in Berlin - there should be plenty of English there and I believe some pubs and clubs are open 24 hours.
  9. The day is almost upon us. After all the press about Sven’s adventurous squad, Rooney’s metatarsal and the holding midfield player dilemma, the English now have World Cup football matches to talk about. This Saturday sees a Rooney-less England face Paraguay in the opening match of the World Cup. How did both teams qualify? For some bizarre reason English journalists give their team very harsh treatment. If you’d picked up a newspaper at various times during the qualifying period you would have read about David James being a donkey, Sven’s dreadful judgement in trying a formation which works so effectively for Barcelona and Chelsea, and England suffering their most embarrassing defeat for decades. Lets not forget though, England qualified from their group with a game to spare and ended up group winners. How many other major European nations qualified so comfortably? Paraguay finished fourth in the South American qualifying region behind Brazil, Argentina and Ecuador but ahead of some fairly well established South American nations such as Uruguay, Chile and Colombia. Their very own Jose Cardozo finished in joint second place in the scoring charts for the South American World Cup qualifying zone with seven goals. With Sven now deciding he is a tinker man, what sort of team can we expect him to put out? After Crouch’s hat-trick in the 6-0 demolition of Jamaica Eriksson declared that he would start this match. Many people are therefore expecting the same team that started against Jamaica but with the fit again Neville in for Carragher at right back. However, Gerrard has a back injury and only has a 50% chance of playing on Saturday. If Gerrard doesn’t play, I would expect Lampard to partner a holding midfielder in central midfield. Who that holding player is though is anyone’s guess. Sven doesn’t seem to know who he prefers in that role out of Carragher, Hargreaves and Carrick. Is everyone underestimating Paraguay? Perhaps. They have got many players plying their trade in Europe - Dos Santos and Santa Cruz at Bayern Munich, Valdez at Werder Bremen, Paredes at Reggina, Toledo at Real Zaragoza and Acuna at Deportivo La Coruna. They have also reached the second round in both of the previous two World Cups, why can’t they do it again? Furthermore, fans of Football Manager will be looking forward to seeing Edgar Barreto be the star of the tournament… Betting odds (from PaddyPower) England 4-7 Paraguay 5-1 Draw 5-2 My prediction England 2-0 Paraguay Sorry about the short length. I'll do a better one in the knockout stages once my exams are over.
  10. SO what have you gone for?
  11. In the match between England and JAMAICA? Well, England
  12. Yet again Pleasure, your "sources" are wrong. Duff regularly played under Parkes and in fact won our Player of the Season award in our first season in Division one (1999-2000).
  13. 1) I'd say his movement off the ball is not as good as it was. 2) There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that he's lost some pace. 3) I'm not sure whether his passing's got worse but, post accident, the ball being played to Jansen often led to the opposition coming away with the ball. I think he should join Michael Bridges at his hometown Carlisle. Both players have had similar problems since injury.
  14. Has Sven lost it? Darren Bent scores 18 premiership goals and loses out to a 17year old who's never played in the premiership. And why is Hargreaves in?
  15. Why does no one want the England games? I'll do England v Paraguay if it's available
  16. I'm in Berlin from 3rd July until 10th July. I've sadly got no tickets though.
  17. After hearing about that Liverpool fan...NO THANKS.
  18. James Beattie? I thought we were talking about players who had been relegated. Or is it a "Guess the link between these players" competition.
  19. Emerton and Pedersen have receieved a lot of criticism this season, as have Reid and Bentley when they have played on the wings. I think this is because life as a Blackburn winger is very difficult. We don't have much aerial presence and there's very rarely many players in the box when a winger receeives the ball. Bellamy makes a run down the line from the winger and the centre midfielders always seem to prefer to lurk outside the area to get the second ball once the cross is cleared. I've also noticed that none of our players ever attack the near post at crosses.
  20. Last time we finished 6th we got 60points. The same amount will be required this season. For us not to do that we would have to have achieved less then 8points from our last 7 games which is relegation form. We're in a wonderful situation, lets not throw it away.
  21. Am I the only one who looks at Spurs' fixtures and thinks they'll struggle to win another game all season? Away games at Everton, Arsenal and West Ham; home games against Man United and Notlob. Unfortunately though none of our games are easy. Citeh and Chelsea if they're in the FA Cup final and already champions strike me as our two most winnable games. After the results in the last eight days, I think that Arsenal should take 4th, especially if they take three or more points from their next two games away at Manure and Pompey.
  22. Mark Lawrenson: "Blackburn need a win to get back on track for a European place. Though the fact they are sixth perhaps says more about the league than about them."
  23. Did you got to Lancaster Grammar? There was an agent who represented Rio Ferdinand who used to go to our school and came in to our school to do a talk on his career. It was January 2004. He was the agent of Jamie Redknapp and very good mates with him but still said that Harry Redknapp was one of the most bent managers in the league. He also said that he'd never do transer dealings with Dave Jones because he's corrupt and only ever deals with one agent. At the time he'd just signed a client of this agent - Carl Cort for £2million in a deal he described as suspicious. He also mentioned that Kevin Keegan and Graeme Souness were both in Willie Mackay's "back pocket." Lucien Mettomo anyone?
  24. Many seem to be predicting a relatively low final position and points total for Bolton. They are having a very good season, especially at home (was it eight home games in a row they won without conceding?). They also don't give any teams an easy game away from home. They got through the run of games they had when half their squad was away in Africa and they have two games in hand on most of the league (including us). Although I hate to say it, they are my tip for 4th. I know when we couldn't break down their weakened side when they had ten men for an hour that it would prove costly.
