  1. Some good photos on the Memories of Blackburn Facebook site detailing the funerals/burying the coffin that took place at Bamber Bridge when either Rovers or PNE were relegated.
  2. I reckon we could get to 13k+ despite the owners. There are still 27k home fans out there as evidenced by the Oxford game in 2018. Get the price right and folk will come. The 27k was a one off but shows that under certain circumstances, big crowds will happen. Some of the ‘lapsed former regulars’ and ‘now and again’ fans have to be enticed into being season ticket holders by two things. Success on the pitch and a sensible, affordable price, commensurate with the current economic climate, especially in an area like East Lancs.
  3. Just seen on a football related Facebook site that Borussia Dortmund’s season ticket price, for the coming season, on the ‘yellow wall’ behind the nets, is Euro 240, or just over Euro 14 per game. That’s £218 per season. Very affordable, top flight football.
  4. Has your wife :- (a) Stopped speaking to you? (b) Stopped sleeping with you? (c) Stopped cooking for you? (d) Left you? (e) Gone to live with your best mate? (f) Gone to live in Burnley? (g) Booked an appointment with her solicitor? Asking for a friend 🙂
  5. Just watched the two interviews. Both Jon and Gregg come across as intelligent, articulate and share a sense of optimism. What’s good to see is that they both smile and look like they genuinely want to be here. You would like to think that Venky’s have given them a true assessment of what is available in the form of a kitty for, at least, the first two transfer windows. Even if that pot of money is only say a few million, each window, and they know they’ll have to work on bringing in cheap youngsters and developing them, together with utilising the loan market. It would also be nice if they have been given the green light to keep Brereton, should he be persuaded to stay. Well that’s the football side of things sorted. Now for the CEO and commercial side. Wouldn’t it be good to have people in those positions with similar intelligence, optimism and common sense and have the whole club singing from the same hymn sheet?
  6. Imagine we were to appoint someone with these credentials as a former player and current manager.. Played in his home country for a number of clubs, all lower league clubs, none of whom would have been known by anyone in the UK, won nothing. Coached/managed a team in the 6th tier and took them to the 4th tier, essentially won nothing of any note. Then managed the reserves of a top flight team for two seasons, essentially winning nothing. Imagine if Waggott and Venky’s were announcing that candidate as the next Head Coach of Blackburn Rovers…everyone happy? Well, that was the position Norwich City and their supporters were in a few seasons ago because that man was Daniel Farke. What followed was..up, down, up, down, then sacked and off without a backward glance. Let’s give JDT a fair chance (assuming he is appointed) rather than sticking the knives in, well in advance. On paper (yes, I know), he’s as good as we could expect to get in my opinion.
  7. To be fair, TS, he is Danish and has either played or coached in Holland, England, Italy, Germany, Spain and Sweden. He would also have lived in all those countries with the possible exception of Sweden. I dont think he’ll have any trouble living and moving his family to England, should he be appointed.
  8. Pretty much my thoughts, too, Rev. In fact, I’m quite warming to the appointment, assuming it’s Tomasson who gets the nod. He has an outstanding pedigree, albeit mainly on the playing side of things. He’d probably be the first to admit that his first foray into management/coaching was a relative failure. He then corrected that by serving an apprenticeship, as a number two for several years, with the Danish National side, before trying again with Malmö and delivering two championships. A move to England, or similar standard, would be seen as his natural progression up the coaching ladder. It has got to be reiterated that we have Venky’s in charge who have a history of penny pinching (and wanton waste) where managers are concerned. With the candidates interviewed so far, it’s clear that they have not changed their modus operandi, so who did we honestly think we would get? Under the circumstances, I feel he would be a decent choice and certainly better than most of those on the managerial merry-go-round of mediocrity. With the choice of Broughton as DoF, it also feels that Tomasson would be a good fit with regard to bringing in young players, developing them and then selling on for a profit. Something he worked on at Malmö. Both Broughton and Tomasson singing from the same hymn sheet. Nothing would please me more than Venky’s throwing in the towel and off loading us onto fresh owners but it seems like this move to DoF and Head Coach is the first positive from them in twelve years. It may work, it may not but I’m cautiously optimistic.
  9. With due respect, 1864, it doesn’t. Once again, it’s vague, wishy washy and has no specifics. Not sure what you’re trying to say in your fourth paragraph. Are you suggesting folk on here believe he has the power to overrule the owners, because I can’t ever remember that view being put forward. He may well have got the DoF bit right but, there again, it may well turn out to be a damp squib.
  10. The number of times Deila has been called Delia over the last couple of days, I’m surprised she isn’t on the betting list. ’Where are you…where are you…let’s be havin’ you!’ (burp)
  11. I don’t think it is the barometer. It’s just that Deila is close to the top of the betting list. From what Swanson says, earlier in the thread, it would appear that Knutsen and Broughton don’t get on, so it may well have to be Broughton and a n other.
  12. Some folk on here like to put the boot in from the off. With inevitable hindsight, they can then tell the world that the appointment was wrong, should that person fail to deliver. I was rather sceptical of the abilities of our hierarchy to get it right. So far, with the appointment of the DoF, things are looking quite good. It may work, it may not but, for me, it’s a step in the right direction. Broughton seems to be a thinker with this akin to a more continental type of approach than we have previously been used to at Ewood. For me, that rules out Ainsworth with his type of football, Ferguson too and logically, you would think Knutsen would be next, given that the two of them have worked miracles at Bodø/Glimt.
  13. Looks like it’s a promotion for him to DoF and no doubt his remit will be to also oversee youth development to some degree.
  14. Whether or not it works out is one thing but, credit where credit’s due, Waggott & Co seem to have done very well here, very well indeed. I think we can also agree that our academy has been a success here and this appointment should improve it even further. Wonder if Deila’s/Knutsen’s odds will shorten now?
  15. Should have come with us Ossy. We all said we’d just have a few before the game but that went out the window as soon as we got to our hotel. By the time we had been in a few pubs on the Gallowgate, I was pretty much bladdered and I’ve regretted it ever since. Can’t remember a thing about the game. At the time, after the match, there seemed to be a distinct lack of pubs or eateries in the city centre (or at least we couldn’t find any) and we ended up in a Chinese in the early hours, after being refused entry to a couple of clubs. A great couple of days in good company, despite the defeat.
  16. Saw this on a Facebook site. Couple of Rovers flags.
  17. Spot on. I was going to post the same a few days ago but lethargy set in. Every well run club in the country should have players in mind, for each position in the team, should a bad injury rule out one of their players for any length of time. The same applies for a replacement manager/head coach.
  18. I once, when in Oslo, went to watch their city rivals Lyn. Look what happened to them. 😆
  19. I always knew them as Darwen Birdy and Church Birdy. The latter was on the coach to Orient, the day Waggy got the first ever red card. He (Birdy, not Waggy) supped a bottle of wine/whiskey, threw the empty bottle down the coach which split a lad’s head open. He was a Grade A certified nutcase.
  20. I was at a party, twenty six years ago, with Ainsworth’s dad. On that basis alone, I want him for the job.
  21. Little bit unsure on Delia. Was ok at Celtic but only just ok, winning three of the six trophies on offer, during his two seasons there but without having Rangers in the same division. Don’t think Celtic fans were over impressed either. The pressure, I think, got to him and he stepped down after having won his second league title there. He was only 38 years old when he went to Scotland and will obviously be more experienced now. I would give him a 6 out of 10.
