  1. Not saying they would spend it anyway but we wouldn't have been able to go out and make massive signings with ffp regulations. Like you other teams have spent considerably more but they have brought money into club by either selling players for profits and reinvesting part of the fee or have had parachute payments. Those clubs are bringing more money in through sponsership or bigger crowds. If the Venkys had given the same level of funding as they have done in the Mowbray era to say a Wilder or anyone competent we wouldnt be in the mess we are now
  2. Ayala might not have been bought for a fee but his signing on fee would have been significant probably more than what we paid for Pears and Kaminski. The loans wouldn't have been cheap either. The deals for Johnson ,Holtby and Downing in previous seasons wouldn't have been free we would have been giving them signing on fees to bring their wages down. I think our owners are useless, but it is the team on the ground, Mowbray and Waggott etc whose fault it is for the state of the squad. The owners obviously know nothing about football, they give a budget and let the people on the ground run it.It wasn't their decision to hand out multiple lucrative contracts to ageing and substandard players or spend multi million pound transfer fees on Brererton and Gallagher when the money should have been spent better. And on the embargo they trust the people on the ground to keep us within the rules. We are a tiny part of their business empire, they probably don't think about us from one month to the next The people on the ground have got us into this mess the owners have been signing the cheques and agreeing to nearly everything Mowbray asked for .Owners too thick and pig ignorant to make a change when it's clear the people on the ground ain't up to the job .
  3. Exactly he won't be on the same money as he was at Wednesday. He is the right age ,has over 300 appearances at this level and isn't a bad player. I dont think he is brilliant but with our budget are we likely to get any better ? Looks like no signings until the prem clubs let their kids out, lets hope they are of similar quality to Tosin, Elliot and Harwood Bellis who were 3 of our better players whilst here. It might not aid us long term in the development of some of our own young players who I think will get opportunitys regardless next season but the squad needs some quality and depth adding big time as short term it looks like a bottom half battle ,we need stay up and hopefully once his contract is up we will see some new faces in dugout and upstairs next season.
  4. Joe Rothwell age 26 111 apps(Championship) 7 goals ,8 assists Adam Reach age 28 306 app(Championship) 31 goals 42 assists. Reach got more assists and goals than Rothwell last season too
  5. I'd agree if the club didn't need money being brought in in the next 12 months to prevent us being sanctioned again. If we don't sell Armstrong and let him go on a free who are we selling for 10+ million next summer?
  6. Can't wait for the movie
  7. One thing I will say in Mowbrays defence when it comes to Rothwell (I am not a Mowbray fan). But from watching the games on ifollow the amount of times I heard Mowbray and the bench screaming at Rothwell to get further forward was unreal and Rothwell just ignoring them playing centre of the park when his attributes are primed for the final third. I am in total agreement that Rothwell is talented but I question his work rate, desire and most of all his intelligence
  8. Raya and Cairney were far better than Rothwell here. I take your point on our coaching staff not getting the best out of players but Rothwell was in and out of the side in league one He is 26 and his numbers in terms of assists and goals is woeful. He is way overrated (initially by myself in his first season) because he is a nice dribbler and gets you off your seat but I soon learned not to waste my energy getting up off it as 9.5 times out of 10 he does nothing with it
  9. Agreed the squad is shit but Rothwell's creativity appears once every ten matches or so. You can't just blame Mowbray,he was in league one before he and at the time didn't seem like we fought off a lot of clubs for his signature. And Rovers will be watched weekly by scouts data analyst etc yet Rothwell hasn't been bought despite the fact he could be got for relatively cheap
  10. Lol if Rothwell is as good as you say then why has he spent the majority of his time here in and out of the side? Why was he not a regular at league one Oxford? Why have his unbelievable talents not been spotted by other clubs and why hasn't he been bought? Be interesting to see the calibre of the side in for him,if indeed there is actually anyone in for him? Reach has had a 5 million move in his career and played many many many more matches at championship level that Rothwell. At 26 years of age Rothwell has never been a regular
  11. Reach is 28 years old.Yes he has had a poor last couple of seasons but not many Wednesday players come out with credit during that time. If your employer didn't pay your wages on a number of occasions but was still actively trying to employ people to your workforce would you be 100% motivated or would it affect you?
  12. Reach probably won't be a direct replacement for Rothwell anyway.Just my opinion but don't reckon Rothwell will be that big a loss has a good 20 or 30 minute spell every 6 or 7 matches
  13. Rothwell has also played wide for us and besides that Rothwell never been a regular certainly not in central midfield
  14. Depends on the fee we receive for Rothwell, but if over a million and we get a more proven championship player in Reach to replace him for free then that's a good deal imo. Reach should only be given a 2 year deal and perhaps a years option in the clubs favour tho
  15. Reach was bought for 5 Million and was a sought after player prior to the last two seasons, has decent ability and is still only 28. I take on board Sheffield Wednesdays fans views of him , however Id say they are unhappy with the majority of their players after being relegated. The club wasnt paying players including Reach their wages whilst still sounding out potential signings for the club. That is bound to have an effect on the players. He hasn't been signed up as he wants his wage which he is entitled too.I think he will be a decent signing but obviously not an Armstrong replacement
  16. You said yesterday "Armstrong gone 15 million excluding add ons" ?
  17. 40% of any profit ,it was initial 1.7 going up to 3,If he has met those add ons then they would get 40% of 12 million if we sell for 15 they would see 4.8 million of the 15 leaving us with 10.2
  18. Mate I don't think 15 million is a good deal for Armstrong but I think it's the best we will get.If you want to believe a premier league club will pay 20 Million for a championship striker who has one year left on his deal then that's up to you . When was the last time a Championship player with one year left on his contract, that had never been tested at premier League level left their club for a fee of 20 million or even 10 for that matter? It's as simple as this imo we can not afford to let him go for nothing if we have bids of 15 million in.With our wage bill and finances we need a big sale in the next 12 months. If it's not Armstrong who else is it going to be?Most teams in the championship with our debt levels and finances cash in on assets,it's a farce we have got to this point IL reiterate I think you are dreaming if you think we will get bids of 20 million(I would love to be wrong)
  19. That Daka who Leicester bought was under contract for longer than a year and they paid 23 million. He was coveted by bigger teams than Leicester too. He is unproven in the premier League as is Armstrong. He has 1 year left on his deal why would Premier league teams pay 20 million+ when they can get better value for their buck abroad. If Watkins had 1 year left on his deal Aston Villa would not have been paying 26 million for him. Even if we go the part exchange route that players valuation will be taken into consideration when we are paying the 40%
  20. Reach has better numbers than Rothwell anyway.Yeah he has had a poor couple of seasons and the Sheffield Wednesday fans don't rate him,but a lot was going on at the time, players not getting paid their wages etc. Pre the last two years Reach was rated in this division, did enough to secure a 5 million move whilst we would be lucky to get £500k for Rothwell
  21. Rothwell was in and out of League one Oxfords side before he came here. I'm not claiming our coaching isn't as issue but in respect to Rothwell his decision making is still as poor as when he first joined. If he left and joined another team and his numbers improved dramatically then I would hold my hands up and say I got it wrong. But I don't see that happening. He is 26 years old and am yet to see him being consistent
  22. Well they have left him out loads of times.Even now I wouldn't call Rothwell a regular. I'm not disputing he has talent but I certainly don't believe if he left us tomorrow all of a sudden his numbers would improve dramatically. His goals and assist record is poor and I don't think that all the blame can be layed at our management and coaching team.Rothwell has to take some responsibility, he does take the wrong option and he lacks discipline and intelligence when it comes to his positioning
  23. We can't afford to wait until the end of the window if we need money brought in to make signings ourselves. If we had a healthier looking squad then yeah waiting till the end in the hope a team will panic and pay a few extra quid would possibly be the best thing to do.But we are just over a week till start of season and the squad is already riddled with injuries and looks weak .
  24. Watkins is a far better all round player than Armstrong and like you said was tied down to a longer contract. If Watkins only had a year left he wouldn't have been bought for 26 million you also have to take into account clubs have had hardly any income for near 2 year. Also plenty of recent examples of players downing tools when coming to the end of contract.Fletcher and Britt last season amongst the most recent examples
  25. Exactly this...plus a massive risk to a player of a long term injury. Lyle Taylor at Charlton downed tools when coming to the end of his contract, same as the two boro strikers Britt and Fletcher last year. We ain't in a position were we can just say no to bids as high as 15 million when we will get nothing for him in 12 months time
