  1. How much more do you think we would have got for Wharton if we waited until the summer to sell him?(as for the lads own career he would have had to move on in the summer) Like you say we got rinsed but at the same time there wasn't a queue of teams in for him at that knockdown price in the January. I accept a few clubs that might have been interested couldn't sign him due to ffp constraints but not that many. His fee would have been paid over the length of his contract so I'm not having most clubs would have been in bother by putting 4 or 5 million on that years accounts. I think there was doubts over his body, physicallity and his ability to see out 90 minutes at Premier league level.Media speculation has it Newcastle considered him in the summer before the jan we sold him and those reservations led to them crossing him off their list. Unless we were operating at the top end of the table and competing/beating the better teams or playing against prem teams in the cups and competing with Wharton in form then I don't think we would have seen much more for him. The shame for me is we didn't get to enjoy him for as long as possible as he should have been kept to the summer but without exposure against better teams then I don't think we would have got much more for him,we might have got 20/22.5 guaranteed rather than the 18.5 guaranteed but it would have been clubs like Palace evertons etc bidding not the bigger teams without the test at premier league level, those bigger clubs could have bought him ahead of Palace in the January without ffp trouble if they appreciated him as a player like the majority of our fan base did.
  2. Do we really think the end is coming? Personally I think they will put the minimum money in again to keep the club ticking over and them in control when the transfer income runs out.
  3. He has to figure out how to get them to score a goal first they haven't scored a home goal since boxing day. We will win on Saturday
  4. Nixon definitely and I think Elliott have said 15% on whatever profit Palace make
  5. My team Pears Brittain. Carter Hyam. Ribiero Trav. Tronstad Dolan. Ohashi. Cantwell Gueye
  6. Everytime Dolan has a poor game the good things he has done in the past weeks are quickly forgotten about. He is what he Is a young and inconsistent player. Last few weeks he has had some good performances, today he was poor and has been at other times but.... It gets a bit ridiculous when people start saying things like "never want to see him wear the shirt again".."useless" ..."should be playing in league one " etc etc etc
  7. Why are people getting wound up about this letter? I see no praise for the ownership or board . He explained in his interview why Rovers title win is something that stuck with him as it was the year he made his debut as a professional and that he had always watched English football
  8. Not shooting the messenger but it doesn't add up.If they were leaning on Eustace in that way then why was Lowe only starting Ribiero from the jan signings Dennis didn't get any minutes v Plymouth and Woodrow has only played minutes in the league. Kargbo also hasn't had a start
  9. He was available for a relative pittance for a player of his ability and only Crystal Palace bit at that point I know the arguments are that clubs were hamstrung by ffp but they all weren't the transfer fee would have been spread over the length of his contract many clubs could have done that deal without any issue What would have changed to make other clubs pay a much larger fee whilst still playing in the championship for us without us getting promotion or starting to beat the better teams in the division with Wharton key to that I agree he is worth more much more and hopefully we will at least see a sell on (which will dissappear anyway) I just don't see why clubs would pay much more 6 months /year down the line when he is still playing at the same level.I know he is a Rovers fan and he would stayed the rest of the season but for his career he would have had to go in the summer
  10. Only been watching parts of it I'm waiting on a Palmer goal for a bet builder to come in and he has been wasteful
  11. Hopefully Tuchel is watching bound to have eyes on that game tonight with the English involvement
  12. Nice that he is talking about not making too many changes and shifting to his preferred style in the short term It's a fresh pair of eyes on the players and presumably no favouritism so if the new guys Kargbo etc are doing the biz in training then should see them favoured more than Hedges. Still feel Hedges has played his part and always gives 100% but he is non existent as an attacking threat I don't want us going into games seeing both him and Weimann start together. Ismael likes his forward players pressing I think Ohashi will be back in soon enough
  13. Apologies it didn't twig with me that it was this coming summer ye where talking about Yeah he still be here at the beginning of next season
  14. Iv looked . Sacked after a very short period with results not the worst in the world. At Watford Every manager ends up getting sacked, and altho not great had them 9th nowhere near relegation. But accepted the players he had should have done better West Brom 7 months after an exceptional season at Barnsley, when sacked they were in poor form but he wasn't given a chance to turn things round. They were still fifth ,only 8 points behind 2nd. They finished the season 10th so their replacement didn't make things better. The expectations at both those clubs was to at a minimum finish in the top 6 ,but pressure was on even to finish in the top 2. At Barnsley he did excellent, I watched a number of their games that season and they were very good. He has never had a team in this country anywhere near relegation places. I would have much preferred the club had splashed the cash and brought in more of a name and better record on a short term appointment and really make a statement that we believed promotion was a possibility. But I don't think this is a bad appointment, not as much pressure or expectation similar to Barnsley . I still think we ain't the only club that would have considered hiring him.If clubs like Cardiff, Sheff Wednesday even maybe the likes of Hull and a couple of others I think he would be a name in the frame.
  15. If he does as well as those 2 then we would have offers in the championship Coaches can fail over and over they still get opportunities to manage at this level. We ain't talking about a guy here who has got teams relegated. He dissapointed at West Brom and at Watford. But fact is he left West Brom in 5th,when he left they eventually dropped to tenth.Maybe it wasn't him that was the issue
  16. He has never managed In League One? It was the championship he made the playoffs with Barnsley
  17. Results dropped off at West Brom but at the time of sacking they were 5th and only 8 points off second.Coberan didnt get them promotion either. Style of play did come into it They ended up finishing 10th And Watford Is Watford they go through managers
  18. West brom had just come down,Watford had a big budget and both owners and fans were wanting automatic promotion and to play a certain way. If we are still in this division next season we won't be expecting Ismael to get us automatic promotion playing champagne football on a bottom 3 budget. But at Barnsley he did get them into the playoffs on a budget that will be similar to ours His results might not have been automatic promotion results at West Brom or Watford but they were not terrible
  19. Yeah we will have to agree to disagree. I'm not analysing any stats apart from his results and they are not bad at any of his clubs over here. Again opinions of West Brom and Watford supporters mean little to me,they had big expectations and budgets and wanted a different style of play and to be going up automatically. I would compare us to Barnsley not them,as next season if still in this division that is the sort of budget he will be working with. With respect you have no idea If he was on shortlists for other clubs and even if not the same could have been said for Eustace, after being sacked at Birmingham Championship jobs became available and he wasn't appointed or in the running(according to media) for any of them
  20. Why wouldn't he get a job in the championship? Excellent at Barnsley. Watford is a death trap for a manager and was 9th when sacked West brom had just come down from the Premier league and their fans reckoned they should have been playing champagne football, 5th and only 8 points off top 2 when sacked. I'm not assed about style of play, results is what I care about and Ismaels results have not been terrible at any club. Do I think we could do better ?Yes If we would pay a bit more But it just isn't the case that he wouldn't have interest from clubs in the championship if he didn't get a job here
  21. His record isn't poor enough to be left on the scrap heap. If not this job He would have turned up somewhere else eventually. If we were appointing someone in the summer we wouldn't be happy if they were only signing on for 1 season
  22. It's the rest of this season and 2 following seasons so will be a 2 and a half year deal which Is normal Is a head coach really going to sign a 1 and a half year deal If we paid more we could have got someone till the end of the season but I honestly don't see many coaches willing to come for just a 1 and a half year deal
  23. If they have chosen Ismael then get on with announcing his appointment, this better not drag out till later in the week and he is only in the stands Saturday
  24. Do people really think Dennis is ready to be starting games after his showings so far?Looks off it to me, should be getting minutes for the under 21s tonight
  25. Cmon Travis as player manager? The lad Is having a terrific season and is clearly a leader but there is a lot more to being a head coach/manager than that I'm a bit underwhelmed with Ismael but if a choice between Travis as player manager or Ismael it would be Ismael every day of the week .His points per game isn't terrible, did well at Barnsley ,had West Brom 5th(granted they had hit terrible form and the fans weren't keen on his style of play) but West Brom have been steady not spectacular since and a change of manager didn't bring promotion He looks to have an initial impact in him and its what we need. I'm not looking past this season with this appointment as no doubt failure to go up will bring about more changes behind the scenes and talks of different models etc and practically a new squad with all the players heading into being out of contract
