Downing as a replacement for Conway, in my opinion he will offer us more. Bradley Johnson was one of Derby's better players last year and has been one of the better midfielders in the championship throughout his career, it would be nice if he was a few years younger but can see him playing a big role this season.. Travis Johnson Arma/Rothwell, Dack, Rothwell/Downing Compare that to our team at Derby how is it not an improvement? Plus if Chapman gets over his fitness issues and if Butterworth can step up, in my opinion we are much improved in both midfield and attack compared to 12 months ago

I do think Reed is a good player but if so good and class like you say then why aint teams bursting down Southamptons door to get him?He isn't getting a look In there.And as much as we criticise Mowbray for not playing him in central mid, it was the same story at Norwich, he was played at RB. Johnson bossed our midfield the game at Derby.

we desperately need some new defenders, but midfield has been improved also. Bradley Johnson is much better than Evans and Smallwood.Yes he is the wrong side of 30 but he performed well last season with Derby and i believe he will be a good signing. Travis and Johnson a much better midfield pairing thsn Evans and Smallwood, altho Mowbray will probably start with Travis on the bench. Downing is getting on but looks fit,and feel he will play more of a part for us than Conway did last couple of years. Our defence does need addressing but in my opinion the midfield and the foward areas have been improved

This particular player played 36 games in the championship last season and City did give him a 25k a week contract so he is bound to have something about him. Looks a good loan signing to me.

other clubs take loans from the premier league aswell.Derby and Villa made the play offs last season with quite a few loans between them. No problem with loaning players if they are of a decent pedigree which this City player looks to have. He played 36 times for a play off team last season if City are heavily subsidising his wages then good move on our part. Downing and Johnson wouldn't have signed for peanuts either, not disputing venkys are crap owners but we spent money last season and are spending money this summer aswell

Not disputing Brereton been poor since he signed but i think Mowbray has to take a share of the blame for that by giving him most his minutes out of position. Still believe he will turn out to be a very good player as too many people within the game talk up his ability too much to be a dud. I read an article a while ago where Mick Rathbone, who has worked witg him at forest and England, said that he believes he has the potential to be a 30 million pound player. He has also played quite a lot of games at senior level prior to joining us so he must have shown something in his time at forest to suggest he isn't a complete dud

He just signed a new deal with United so they won't be selling him.Villa have signed 3 centre backs already this summer and have agreed a fee for a fourth so don't think they will be in the market to take him on loan again
