ROVERS VS STOKE CITY
islander200 replied to Dreams of 1995's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Same team for me although i wouldnt be suprised if Mowbray puts Evans on the bench for this one and keeps Smallwood in. Hopefully Graham isn't too leggy and get through at least an hour's work. -
Which is less than an hour so far for the people who hadn't heard of him prior to being linked. My whole point is calling him a bad signing or doesnt look a good player from that is not valid in my opinion. I have no issue with someone saying he had a poor game, or he hasn't had the most impressive of starts although iv seen enough with my own eyes to believe he has massive potential and will add something to this group
-
The previous season he made 18 appearances so its actually over 50 Not his Dad no or any relation just know a player when i see one
-
Why is the phrase don't judge him yet meaningless?Of course there are factors at play where he can't be judged one way or the other quite yet. The fact that he is clearly lacking match sharpness. Like Tyrone said moving away from friends and family will take some adjustment just because he cost a few quid doesnt mean that won't take some adjustment and time to get settled like it probably would for any 19 year old. On Nyambe i sit close to 3 lads in their late twenties to early thirties and if he misplaces a pass he gets dogs abuse and one of them in paticular screams that he is useless and can't do anything at every opportunity.

I couldn't put either of them down. Non football but really enjoyed Ronnie O'Sullivan autobiography and Jimmy Whites was laughing to myself the majority of Whites -

Paul McGrath best autobiography iv read Recently read the Graeme Souness autobiography which was good although not much dedicated to Rovers. One part i found very interesting was that part of the fall out with Dunn was due to Souness wanting Dunn to play as a holding midfielder whilst Dunn saw himself as a Gazza type -
Its not the 6 million fee though, it's the wages aswell that a decent ready made striker would be looking for.We also have to take into account we have only just come up from League 1 and have had problems at the club, a more ready made player most likely would have more options and we wouldn't be at the top of his list. Just my opinion but i would rather we took a calculated gamble on a player like Brererton who does have the potential to be a top player and a really assett to the club rather than forking out say 2 or 3 million on a bog standard 28 year old who has spent his career at mid to lower end championship clubs Someone said they saw him knocking about with Armstrong in Whalley so maybe living there. But yeah the move away cant have been easy and i think he said in an interview he didnt know anyone here
-
He hasnt even played an hour yet?He played wide in the Villa game how off that can you say he isnt capable of playing up front on his own, when you said you hadn't heard of him prior to the link? As for why he hasn't played, you played the game didn't you so you should know its not easy to step in instantly when you are so far behind everyone else with match sharpness,Mowbray is always going on about the new signings needing to learn what he expects of them both reasonable reasons why he hasnt seen much game time Would you have preferred the money spent or not?Like i have said previously its a valid point that someone more experienced could have been brought in but there isnt many ready made target men that are any good that could havs been brought in on the wages we can offer. It doesnt make Brererton a bad signing or a bad player and in time i can see him being able to do the role that Graham does, plenty of time for him to fill out and learn how to play that role properly. Nothing wrong with the club buying potential we have a raft of young players with room for improvement and next season we could have a really good side who can sustain a promotion challenge. As it stands i will put my house on it that this side won't be involved in a relegation battle,a top half finish would be a good season imo...plenty of times Mowbray has said in interviews that it will take 2 or 3 windows im sure he would have told the owners the same whilst in India
-
The fans won't get on Brereton's back?Maybe not the majority but surely you see yourself some fans get into their head about a player and that's it,Look at Nyambe you changed your viewpoint about him but some fans still think he is crap and specifically targetted in matches and if any goal goes in its Nyambe's fault, that isnt just jal either. Not blowing my own trumpet but i always saw the potential in Nyambe and backed him to get better and il back my judgement on Brererton too. Most forest fans were gutted he left and the majority of them said he always performed better when played up front.A couple have already suggested he is a bad signing when he hasn't even been given a proper run up front
-
Brererton was poor against Villa but i blame Mowbray, he should have brought Rothwell on,Brererton should be coming on to go up front. He was poor but he did show one bit of class in the box bringing the ball down
-
Earier on someone called Brererton an academy player, he has been involved in 50+ games in the Championship.Im sorry you don't play I get why people might argue we could have gone for more experience and i take that point but the club for the first time in a long time has shown a bit of ambition, did anyone envisage us spending big money on a highly rated young player and good player which i have seen for myself , im sorry but you dont play that amount of times at this level at his age if you don't have something about you. He will need some time, with or without Brererton this side will be well clear of relegation pushing for the top half imo if Brererton gets a bit of confidence and form and we add 1 or 2 more players of quality in January then the play offs could beckon one or two bits more of quality and depth together with the fantastic spirit we have many teams wont beat us. Its an exciting time to be a fan in my opinion someone said they could feel something brewing down at Ewood and i agree.Lenihan,Nyambe,Bell,Rothwell,Dack,Brereton,Armstrong(who i do think will prove a bargain at what we bought him for but when the strength in the squad allows i think we will see the best of him in this division as an impact sub)Davenport(Haven't seen him bar 1 Burton game on the box but looked good in that and has had good things said about him by both Guardiola and Clough) if we manage to add in january and in the summer then we really could go into next season with a very good side. I know venkys have fecked us over that many times i am slightly cautious but this does have a different feel about it,we must have had one of the biggest net spends in the division this season. Im just hoping the fan's wont get on Brererton's back too much, he will need a little time, he is at a young age and moving clubs like that cant be the easiest i imagine and he hasnt had much game time he needs that match fitness

Championship 2018-19

Although i mostly agree with what you say about the criteria and money being spent on a young player with the potential of a decent profit its at odds with our rumoured interest and bids for Freeman at Qpr.He is 26 or 27 now not exactly a young pup and i doubt we would have seen any profit on him if we had paid out 4-5 million pounds -

To be honest i think Brereton has the attributes to grow into a Danny Graham type. Hold up target men get better playing that role with experience and playing time,Brereton is 6"2 only 19 so can still fill out and become more of a physical threat, in Graham's younger years and at Sunderland he didn't always play as a target man. I do take your point that we could have brought someone in more ready but when i see player's like Waghorn going for 8 million pounds who in my opinion isn't that good then it would be difficult for us to bring in a ready made striker with our wage budget. -

From Mowbrays comments we didnt blow our whole budget on Brererton, we did have a 4 million bid for a city player accepted only for the player to go elsewhere and we bid for Freeman at QPR too so we could have added a goalkeeper and defender if thats what the manager wanted. On Brererton i suppose its what a person believes will be a good season. With the squad we have now i dont expect us to be anywhere near relegation and i do think a top half finish will be a good season for our first season back, the manager has said that he thinks it will take a couple of transfer windows for us to have a squad capable of sustaining a promotion challenge.Brererton was available, the manager is a fan so it looks like he was brought in for the future more than anything.I still feel he can play a part this season but want to see him have a few starts playing up front before i decide wether we could have spent his fee better. If Graham is fit enough then he should start Saturday if not then i hope he goes for Brereton rather than Arma and i want to see Brererton up front against Bournemouth midweek -

Obviously we just have different opinions on Rhodes he doesnt bring enough to the table for me , if he doesnt score you are effectively playing with 10 men. Was never Rhodes biggest fan but his scoring record was exceptional here so credit where credit is due but i just don't believe Rhodes would be able to play in this side, just not a fan certainly as a lone striker. I definitely think we needed another striker as i don't think Armstrong can play up on his own and with Graham's fitness then we couldnt have gone into the season with just Nuttall and those two although i do take your point about a centre back and goalkeeper to put pressure on Raya, those positions should have been addressed if we had the budget the manager claimed. Wether Brererton is answer is of course open to debate and with the figures beinf mentioned for him then perhaps we could have brought someone in more experienced. However il stick my neck on the line and from the 10 or 11 times iv seen Brererton in action then i think long term he will turn out to be a good signing for the club -
He started every week when Warburton was in charge

Championship 2018-19
islander200 replied to Cherry Blue's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
What has Rhodes done since he left here? You think Rhodes would be good playing up front on his own in this side? Like i said in the Brereton thread until he has played a number of games in his position then none of us know wether he will turn out to be a good signing or not. But i am certain that Rhodes couldnt play in this side, the ball would be coming back at us all day long.He cant hold a ball up,bring others into play. Given the chances he can score and has decent movement in the box but we don't create enough chances in the box to take advantage of the only decent attributes Rhodes has and hasn't scored goals consistently since he was here so not sure why anyone would want him back to be honest -
A handful games? He was involved in 36 championship games for Forest last season, not bad for a 19 year old wouldnt you agree? He was even getting starts the season we went down,he played in the game against us at Forest. I just think its unfair to call him out one way or the other after less than an hours action being played out of position and lacking match sharpness, that is my point.
-
The people who seem to be most critical of his signing have openly admitted they had'nt heard of him prior to him joining thats who my posts are aimed at of course if someone has watched him a few times and they have the opinion he is a poor signing then fair enough. But In my opinion nobody can give a valid opinion on a player if they have only watched him in less than an hours action being played out of position and clearly lacking match action, it is unfair. Like i said i dont know wether he will be a good signing or not but i wouldnt call him out one way or the other after only watching him for less than an hour. From what i seen of him, has some pace, a lovely first touch, decent movement. In time i do believe he will be capable of taking Danny Graham's place and play as a target man.He needs some time to adjust and learn to play that role though Mowbray has said it will take 2 or 3 windows to have the squad he feels can put in a challenge for promotion. We have just come up from league one,we have had a steady start, and although id like us challenging for a play off spot finishing in the top half is more realistic and would be a good first season back in the Championship.
-
Den although i agree that everyone is entitled to their opinion,Brereton is only 19 and has no match sharpness as of yet due to not being involved with Forest. From watching him at Forest he does have ability and although the price seems a bit steep it will only reach the levels suggested if he meets the clauses in the contract and if he does it will mean he has done alright for us. I remember last year in the early stages of the season poster's were making the same comments about Dack, "strange signing", "where is he going to play id rather 4-4-2", "we won't score enough goals with only 1 up top" etc and look how that signing turned out. I can't tell the future so don't know if Brereton will be a good signing or not but watched him twice live for Forest as at the time the lass i was seeing was a Forest fan and seen him a few times on the box and he made an impression. People are judging him on less than an hours action being played out of position and lacking match action which is unfair
-
Maybe writing him off is a bit far but in my opinion he is getting unjust criticism. You can't judge a player after what 50 minutes playing time, playing out of position. Calling him an academy player when he he has played 40 plus games at championship level at the age of 19 isnt right either.
-
He isnt an academy recruit Tyrone,he played 36 times for Forest in the championship last season. You used to play didnt you? Then surely you can appreciate it will take a bit of time for Brereton to settle. He hadn't been involved with Forest this season so how can you expect him to have full match sharpness when he hasnt been playing. I find it absolutely ridiculous that people are writing off Brereton after a max hour's playing time for us

He hasn't scored goals on a regular basis since he left here. Boro didnt give him game time,Sheffield Wednesday he was mostly poor when he did play and was left on the bench more often than not.Now the manager at Norwich has dropped him after a few games of him playing up front on his own. In my opinion we won't be seeing Rhodes amongst the top scorers in this division again. What next for him if it doesnt work out at Norwich -
Danny Graham is undoubtedly our best striker but Mowbray himself has said on numerous occasions that Graham struggles playing 3 games in a week. I presume his thought process on this is coming from the medical team and the player himself. In an ideal world Graham would start every match but can see why Chaddy and others don't expect him to start on Saturday due to the managers previous comments about Graham's fitness. Graham has a history of injuries throughout his career and the last thing i want to see is him getting overplayed , getting injured and out for a period of time

He is available on saturday, its the following league game against Forest he can't play. Gavlar was thinking the Forest match was this saturday.
