  1. Shrewsbury fell away at just the right time for us. But you compared a season with the best squad in the division versus a play-off match, a one-off game, in which luck plays a huge part. Ultimately, Mowbray did what was expected. It doesn’t mean another manager couldn’t have done it. Last season’s best Rovers XI would have beaten Sunderland’s.
  2. It shows what a lottery the play-offs are and how we very nearly ended up in them despite our squad being better than everyone else’s - even though some seem to think that Mowbray is somehow bigger than the club.
  3. That’s why we watch football... ...and cheered with 6 seconds to go at the end, despite being relatively neutral.
  4. I don’t see this being a regular annual programme. The US audiences would have wanted a nicely shrink-wrapped ending rather than another failure. Just look at the reaction to GoT.
  5. I know what you mean. Graeme Jones would have been excellent for them. Someone like him would have walked the League One title with the biggest budget and Bradley Dack. Instead we have a guy who has underachieved in each of his three seasons.
  6. That’s just double-talk for: Mowbray should have thanked Conway for his service and moved on, with plans already in place to replace him, because “the time was right for him to move on”. That should have been Mowbray’s call, not wait and see if the player wants to stick around and take up a squad place and block the progress of a youngster and then react. Some fans understand? You arrogant little... person.
  7. Relegation ✅ Change of ownership ✅ Lost a Wembley Cup Final ✅ Lost a Play-Off match at Wembley ✅ If they wanted a tale of football misery they are getting plenty of material.
  8. Contradicting yourself in you haste to have a pop at me. If “the time is right for him to move on” then how has Mowbray “played it right” by offering him a new contract?
  9. We seem to get linked with the same old faces each window. Hopefully our international network which will scour Europe for cheap talent that Mowbray can mould into brilliant footballers and sell for millions will kick in at some point over the next 3-4 years.
  10. Fair play. Sad thing is, if Mowbray has more about him, he’d have made more of a big deal about Conway’s 200th cap and thanked him for his services. Once more, our decision making is done for us.
  11. Just think: if this group was to approach Venkys they’d say “no thanks we’re good”. ?
  12. Ironically it became the excuse to not play the youngsters apart from very fleetingly.
  13. The player he replaced must have felt quite humiliated. He was lower-non-league dimensions! I can only assume he meets the Tranmere fitness requirements.
  14. I’m not Newport fan but they didn’t deserve that.
  15. Ref has definitely favoured Tranmere throughout this game. Coincidence that Mike Dean is a fan...?
  16. For me, Newport have had to focus on getting through extra time with 10 men.
  17. Anything but stale. It’s been pretty end to end. Newport can consider themselves a little unlucky not to have won it in normal time. Two good penalty claims waved away.
  18. We’ve already signed a barrel full of potential talent, and have potential talent trying to get into the first team from the development squad. If we are only going to loan or give one season deals to freebies for actual proven Championship quality players then we may as well just focus on that market and forget about permanent signings.
  19. You only have to look at the experiences of other players Mowbray has signed for this division. Rothwell Brereton Armstrong Chapman Davenport Rodwell Reed Palmer He has run it as a clique this season and players have to fight their way into that clique - largely his League One side. He has made a statement that his approach will change this coming season. Will potential recruits take the chance? Does Mowbray even have any ambition for better than mid table? And how do you sell that to anyone?
  20. Thing is, Paul. What constitutes failure? Where is the line? Promotion? Play-offs? Survival? Meeting his own targets? And even if he does fail, is he really ‘done’? There will always be some fans defending him.
