EFL rules require clubs to field their strongest sides. They do seem determined to keep them going until the end of the season. At which point they’ll be on their own.

We spent £10m net, Wigan spent £4.5m and will finish about 5 places above them in the bottom half (thanks to a very good run once safe). Both well clear of relegation.. Our transfer budget alone should have seen us aiming for the play-off places this season. Wigan could well be excused for not doing so. Especially having sold Will Grigg and Dan Burn, and replaced them with inferior players. Who have Rovers had to sell to balance the books and stay up? Nobody, in fact quite the opposite. Nothing illogical about it. That really is the wrong word to use. Pretty emotive stuff for anyone to suggest we’ve had a better season than Wigan, in comparative terms.

If the league rules are followed then there should be no recourse in law as every member signed up to them. The real legal issue would surely be if the EFL meddle to keep them afloat. Isn’t the easiest option to award Brentford a 3-0 win, which is what happened at Rovers when Boro didn’t turn up?
