  1. Not the quickest to react or over the first few yards. For a tall player he was quick once in his stride.
  2. BOTH. Thanks to the Money floating around in the premiership - average premiership players are overpriced resulting in the overinflated prices cascading down the leagues
  3. Have to agree on the evidence of last season.
  4. Agree about over inflated prices but sad to say if you want a player you will have to pay the going rate. If you don't you dont get the players. If we get a bad start then panic sets in and we'll pay even more.
  5. How many times have we heard of players nearly signing extensions in the past and eventually moved?
  6. It is a bit of mis information that he couldn't win a header. He did win some but he never found a Rovers player when he flicked it on. Another player who would struggle playing the lone striker role
  7. He scored a few goals for us but sadly it was proven time and time again that he was weak in the tackle and was easily out muscled. The game at Oldham where he played up front really showed the weaknesses in his game and sadly he was physically not up to League One.
  8. Just been reading the yesterday's posting on here so sorry to bring old debates back. There were time last season when Nyambe was targeted by the opposition last season but there were also times when Williams was as well. This was because their positional sense is questionable at best. Nyambe did improve as the season progressed as his confidence improved and to call him poor is a little harsh. If we play 3 at the back I suspect this is not going to improve the situation. To move onto the 4th choice centre half, personally I wouldn't be looking at a 31 year old just relegated with Burton. I don't know the player but if we need a 4th choice Wheaton, Platt or Williams are surely fine to cover for the odd game. Signing someone who is happy to be fourth choice is wrong on all levels. If we are signing a new centre half he has to be challenging for either of the two starting positions and then Downing becomes fourth choice. It is the only way the squad improves. Previous managers have signed squad fillers and is why we went backwards. Finally Sam Gallagher is an improvement on Samuel and Nuttall but should under no circumstances be considered as a main striker. He has proved that he can play the wide forward role that Samuel and Antonnson was asked to play last season but was found wanting when he played down the middle.
  9. Just because a club says we put a bid in does not neccessarily means we have. I remember the Southend chairman saying we put a bid in for Stan Collymore which Rovers later denied. Which club is telling the truth? At the time we were a buying club and it was widely believed that the Southend chairman had used this to up the price on his star player. The reporters could have all recieved the same info from the selling club to try and create interest from other clubs in an attempt to up the price. Until both clubs have officially confirmed the story then it is just a rumour.
  10. At Ewood scored a very good goal and looked like he had genuine pace. He really impressed but every player can have one good game in him.
  11. I suspect is what we are finding out is that Mowbray's idea of a working budget for the championship is probably out of date. As a result the bids we had in have probably been laughed out by other clubs. I also suspect that any player worth a look is also being chased by several clubs as there isn't too many good players available. Those players and their agents can then hold on. As the earlier deadline looms they know some clubs will panic and spend silly money so if you were a player or agent why sign early? They will still be sorted by the start of the season. All of this is not good news for Rovers with a relative small budget. Even when the transfer deadline passes and the loan market remains open all this do will increase clubs making loans leaving the loaning club in a position of power and asking silly money.
  12. To be fair they wouldn't be in the finals without Messi
  13. Can't make my mind up with Messi. Is he the ultimate professional in that he only performs for those who pay his wages ie Barcelona or is it that he wants to perform too much for his country that he can't just relax and play.
  14. Problem is Williams isn't a natural footballer. Granted he looked better as a central defender.
  15. Possession is a funny stat in the fact we could keep the ball for 89mins and 50 secs, not hurt the opposotion then make a mistake in the remaining 10 secs and lose 1-0. Passing the ball around is fine but you need to stretch the opposition and this is where pace can come in handy. As Rogerb said we dominated in spells in games. It is just that in the same game for short periods the opposition had spells where we looked all over the place and this is where we need an experienced person in the middle to pull the strings.
  16. I agree but for every team we dominated for 20 minutes, we also had spells where we were dominated for 20 minutes.
  17. I'd say you need more of a brain to play the wide position. He has to know when to stay out wide or cut in. I think in Samuel's case the question is whether he is prepared to do the dirty work and back track. If he doesn't then this will leave Nyambe exposed.
  18. I don't see too much of a difference between top and bottom of the championship. I also don't too much of a gap between the bottom of the premiership and the championship either. There is too much emphasis put onto not losing games rather than winning by teams for too long. I agree the one weakness the team lacks is pace but also think we need a signing in midfield and an attacker as well. The midfielder should be someone who has experience of this league but still has legs. Whittingham looked a good signing last season but his legs had gone. We have to be careful not to repeat this. Evans should have the experience by now but struggles to control games although I will say he has had poor players around him at times. Forwards will be diffifcult to find in Rovers price range and this was Bolton's problem last year and looks like it will this year as well. This is why they were looking at Graham. Preston though have shown it is possible and the fact that Rovers were competing with North End for Boden last season suggests we are looking in similar places. We have the experienced striker in Graham so again should avoid signing another over 30 player to play there. The problem with players with pace is that they rarely have an end product and are expensive. We saw several examples of players last season in League One who maybe able to step up and have been discussed here already but it will be a gamble. The key to Rovers being a success next season, is keeping the momentum going but I can decide if its the worrying thing is that we never dominated sides last season or that it's a good thing we won because of the collective team spirit that usually won the day.
  19. I know the majority of this squad was relegated last time but lets not get too doom and gloom yet. Granted League One was poor but the Championship isn't great either. Two things we need to remember is that the points collected with Mowbray in the relegation season pro rota for the full season we'd have finished seventh. The 2nd is that momentum is positive this time around rather than the negative ones from recent times. I'm not Mowbray's greatest fan but I accept that major surgery is not required to be a decent Championship side. The key is to keep the momentum going like Sheff Utd did last season and Bolton didn't.
  20. I remember COlin Hendry having a torrid time against him when Heskey got into the first team at Leicester. Then O'Neill became Leicester's maanger and taiught him to fall down everytime he was touched and the rest is history.
  21. We are probably going to get linked with every player who is available from championship and L1 clubs. Agents just hawking their cash cows.....sorry clients around.
  22. Although as a free agent, he might be hanging on for the best deal but from what I've seen he is not good enough
  23. You could use Sunderland as another example. We are not alone in this
  24. The block happend right in front of me. He took the ball right in the nuts. It clearly winded him but there was also little cover to help defend because Samuel was not back helping.
