Seems like Boateng and Luis Boa Morte have thankfully been ruled out as serious candidates for the main job, but may be considered for a coaching role. For me, Wicky is the one that stands out from the list of options at the moment. Has done well at Young Boys and Basel in the past and seems to get teams punching above their weight, which is what we need. The success of foreign coaches at QPR, Sheffield W, and Sunderland suggests a manager doesn't need championship experience in this league. I'd actually argue those are 3 of the best managers in the league right now.

I could see a big name like Gerrard appealing to the owners. They've always craved a big name at the club going back to the nonsensical days of thinking they had a chance of signing Ronaldinho etc. There's no way the board will want Gerrard though, they'll want someone they can easily control.

Great result! Three wins out of four now. The big reason for that = the return of Lewis Travis. No doubt about that. One of the best midfielders in the league this season. January signings made a big difference today. Sanderson was solid, Forshaw had his best game so far, and Kargbo & Ribiero look class. We still have arguably our best player to come back (Tronstad), Dennis and Ohashi to boost the attacking ranks, Beck and Carter to boost the defensive ranks. Things could be getting interesting... -

100% he needs to be given a contract at the end of the season. He is a proven performer at this level so it's no fluke he's hit the ground running. -

That should hopefully be it. Big three points! I really like the look of Kargbo and Ribiero. Very shrewd signings. -
Should we not just name this thread "Didier Drogba". Absolutely unplayable at the moment.

Not a chance Gerrard gets it. I think he'd be decent but he wouldn't settle for mediocrity and he'd kick up a fuss if the board didn't back him. They don't want another one of those after JDT and Eustace.
-
Richie Wellens would tick a lot of boxes for the board. It's a job beyond his skillset and experience so he'd be 'grateful' to have the job and wouldn't kick up a fuss with the chaos behind the scenes and lack of investment. He'll also be on low wages. I don't think it will be anyone with any standing in the game as they'll be off within a year just like Eustace. They don't need to put up with a shambles of a club like this. Although I'm sure the likes of Gerrard, Edwards etc would fancy it in the short term to get back into work before moving on, just like Eustace did. Personally, I think Carsley will get it and they'll trot out the "he's good with developing young players" line. At this point, with no assets left to sell, they are probably looking for a Head Coach who can develop the next assets to sell on. That will be the focus.

One big positive from that game: Kargbo looks good. -

Sick of this club. Cheap and cheerful players all over the pitch. Toth is absolutely dreadful. -
Eustace…he gone…*official*

The next manager will be cheap and cheerful, and someone who is willing to toe the line and work under huge restrictions. That won't therefore be anyone of any credibility. -

His last game in charge today. I wish him well. I don't blame him at all for leaving. If us fans didn't have the club firmly soaked in our hearts then we'd leave too! As I've said many times on this forum, not many of us are fooled by our current position. The fundamentals are as weak as anyone in the league and we are headed for league one soon. -

We're a shambles of a club so Eustace will leave sooner or later. He probably will join Derby which says everything about the current state of the club. -
It's very clear where the problems lie - our attack is toothless. A consequence of a chronic lack of investment in the forward areas over many years. It goes without saying Hedges and Dolan are playing a league above their level. Gueye and Ohashi are handfuls but will never be prolific goalscorers, and Weimann is a good sub but not good enough to start. Duberry and Cantwell are talented players but are not suited to a defensive style of football. Kargbo did look direct and pacy in the few minutes he had yesterday. Someone who at least tries to take on defenders is exactly what we need so that was promising. Dennis could be the answer to our problems but, if he does well, he will move onto better things in the summer and we are back to square one. Pears has done OK this season but is still a very poor GK imo. He's got a very good defence in front of him this season and a well drilled side which is why he's not made as many howlers, but he's an accident waiting to happen every game. Despite being 5th in the league, I look at the bigger picture of where we are as a club right now and we're in a very poor place. No assets, ageing squad, absent owners, players coming out of contract in the summer, and no genuine attacking talent in the squad. Many of us can see that if we continue on this trajectory then we will be playing in league one in the next couple of seasons. Some may say that's ridiculous as we're currently 5th in the league, but the reality is very different once Eustace moves onto better things.
-
If you don't invest in the transfer market then this is what you get. A very poor squad of players who are now getting very poor results. Not a chance we'll be anywhere near top 6 come the end of the season. Eustace is a top, top manager for getting this squad where it is.
-
Pears mistake again.
-
Get some proper attackers on who can actually play football. Kargbo, Cantell, ACD on. Please never start Hedges again. Absolutely woeful.
-
Hedges, Dolan, Buckley, and Weimann are not good enough. Hedges in particular is playing way above his level. Lge 1 player.

January Transfer window
rovers11 replied to chaddyrovers's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
I'd just about say our window was passable in the end with the addition of Dennis yesterday. And we added some pace to the team with Kargbo, LB cover, and additional championship experience in Woodrow. I guess that ticks all the boxes of what we needed at the beginning of the window. Look around at our competitors for the play off and they've blown us out water again. In fact, pretty much every club spent more than us. We just can't compete financially in this league under these owners. The positive news is that something has to give at some point. Venkys don't want to put anymore money in and we have no assets left to sell. There's only so long the Wharton and Sammie money can keep the club going. Pretty much all of our signings are oldies on short contracts and loan deals. We also don't seem to be handing out new contracts either. -

Both deals done apparently from those that live near Brockhall. Announcements very shortly. -

If those two deals get done (IF!) then Rudy has just about pulled it out of the bag. Dennis is a very good signing and the success or failure of this window was going to come down to the striker signing. Woodrow is not great and it would have been abysmal if he was our main signing, but he's better than Hedges who he'll displace. Never seen Kargbo play but he has to be better than Dolan. An attacking line up of Dennis, Woodrow, Cantwell and Kargbo is far > than Gueye, Hedges, Cantwell, and Dolan. -

Allows us to play Beck in a more attacking role. Ribiero is actually not a bad signing tbf.
