Blackburn are the best team we’ve played this season by some distance IMO. We’ve had to work very hard for this lead. #safc #rovers We'll see this type of quote a lot this season. Opposition fans and managers will be very complimentary about us... yet many will beat us comfortably. I don't like us being the nice side that everyone likes to watch but are really easy to score and create chances against. Every time we've lost the ball in the final third in the last few games, the opposition has a free run at our defence, who are left horribly exposed. Our two best managers in the past 20 years - Hughes and Allardyce - both started by making us solid and hard to beat, and then adding the magic from there. The new signings have had zero impact so far which is also a problem. We're relying on the likes of Dolan and Markanday to make a difference, both are miles off it. Telalovic looked miles off the required level when he came on against Boro too, he couldn't even run. But hopefully he'll come good. On the positive side, I do think a front line of Siggy, Ennis, Szmodics, and Moran is top 6 potential. Can we get them all on the same pitch on a regular basis? -

And there it is, a defeat to Tony Mowbray. This "PlayStation football" has to be re-considered. We're going to concede 2-3 every week playing this way. Not sure why JDT has decided to start going all out attack when we don't have very good attackers. -

It's not hard to believe at all. Don't be fooled by the pretty football, there's zero substance behind it. We're set up completely wrong. Way too open. We'll get trounced most weeks playing like this way. -

Excellent going forward, but the shape of the team defensively is awful. It's literally all out attack from minute one. Yes, it's exciting, but I don't see it being the way we're gonna win more than we lose. We don't have good enough finishers to play this way. I'm not sure I like this style or not, although undoubtedly exciting to watch. -

We are playing very sexy football this season and probably the best attacking football we've seen in more than a decade. I'm not sure the "we will score more goals than you" approach will get us results on a consistent basis though. I think we'll see a lot of Plymouth-esque performances and results with this approach. -

Excellent result and some lovely football. Boro are not one of the top teams this year but they're still not an easy team to beat. Sammie has fast become our most important attacking player. No doubt he's one of best players. Although early days, Telalovic looks like a lower league player. His turn of pace was incredibly slow. Moran didn't do much better when he came on. -
You know a lot more about this than I do so I take your word for it. I guess all us fans really care about from this situation is: 1. Will it mean they will sell the club? 2. Will it result in reduced funding from the owners and us needing to be more self sufficient? The answer to 1 is a firm no imo. The answer to 2 is most certainly yes in the short term and possibly in the longer term too. All in all, I don't see any of this being positive for us.

Venky's have a £7m house which they never use seized. I don't think they're going to lose any sleep over that one. Much ado about nothing. Generally, the Indian government making it harder for overseas investment is very bad news for us. It doesn't force them to sell and it means they have the perfect excuse not to put money into the club. It's a winner all round for them. Sadly I don't think they will ever sell the club. I suspect the plan is to pass it down through the generations.

Daylight robbery that we lost today but the same can be said about the Watford game. That's the championship for you. There's no doubt that the game turned on the horror miss from Hedges. Hyam going off also highlighted why it was a mistake not to sign Batth. We need experience in the team but failed to sign any at all in the window. I didn't like the tactics today, it was all out attack from minute one which left our defence horribly exposed. One loose pass and they were running at our defence with no midfield protection. Better teams will pick us off easily if we play that open away from home. Asking Trav to play the role he played today is not his game. He's a warrior as he showed against Watford but he's short on technical ability higher up the pitch. JRC is more suited to that role (when he's back fit). We need to change the "we can score more goals than you" approach as we don't have the firepower for that. I am concerned that we are pinning our goal scoring hopes on someone who's not got any real pedigree. The odds are against him but I hope he can be our 15+ goalscorer. -

If you miss an open goal like Hedges did then you get punished. Wharton has been awful. Far too open at the back for my liking. -

We were awful but what a fantastic result. 7 points from 4 games and we've not been able to get our best team out yet. Impressive. -

Poor so far. Both teams bang average. The guy from Udinese looks class for them. -

Leonard will be a good player, no doubt about that. I don't think he's quite ready though. Hedges is decent as a back up but his final ball is a bit wasteful. He's significantly better than Markanday though. Dolan is just woeful. -

Decent line up but the front 3 is average at best. Not sure where the goals come from. Don't think Watford are much cop this season though. They've gone down a couple of levels over the summer. Home advantage will probably edge it in their favour. 2-1. -

That hurt. We just ran out of legs and concentration in the end which was always likely when playing with 10 men for the whole game. Pickering deservedly sent off. Poor defending from a poor player. Very disappointing result in what was a very winnable game before kick off. Watford away next feels like another loss. Hull have had a decent window - Delap, Twine, and Connolly are all decent signings. They've improved from last season and we're weaker. -
v Rotherham (a) - 12/08/2023
rovers11 replied to Upside Down's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Delighted with that result. We should have won it in the end but, equally, if Rotherham hadn't had a man sent off then we'd be sitting here with a loss, so I'll take a draw. The subs made all the difference. JRC showed that he's too talented to be playing at RB, Hedges was excellent when he came on and is underrated imo, and Britain added a lot of spark at RB. Ennis is some player. We have a bargain there, no doubt about that. Well done to the recruitment team on picking him up on a free. You can see he's a lacking a little sharpness in front of goal but he has all the tools needed to be a top championship striker. Szmodics had a terrible yet brilliant game in equal measures but he's established himself as one of our best players after a slow start to life here.pp Said it last week and I'll say it again after today, Dolan and Markanday are league 1 players unfortunately. We need better quality than what they offer. Last season I think we would have lost that game after going a goal behind, even with 10 men, so that's definitely progress. We have a good team again this year but only an OK squad. Work to do to in the transfer market -

Good starting 11 and Rotherham have a few injuries so we have a good chance of winning this one. -

Brilliant win with an understrength team. We have a player on our hands with Leonard. Looks to have all the tools. Travis was absolutely brilliant all game, as were Hyam and Carter. I thought Tronstad did very well and Wharton looked a class above when he came on. I thought Markanday was very poor despite his goal and Dolan was his usual ineffective self. Neither are the answer on a regular basis.
