v Watford (a) - 26/10/2024

Fine margins in a game that probably deserved to be 0-0. We haven't found the right formula away from home at all. We desperately lack pace and need to find a way to get ACD into the team. Not sure what has happened to Gueye. Looked like the striker we'd been crying out for at the beginning of the season. Good in the air, good hold up play, and linked up play well. Now looks like someone who has never played the game before. -

I never expected a good performance today after two rotten away days. It was all about getting the win and building confidence again. To have won our first five home games in a row at the start of a season for the first time in 30 years is some achievement. And to be in the top 6 after ten games is impressive given how poor we were last season and after losing our best player in the summer. Eustace is doing a very good job. -

A good starting 11 and a very strong bench. Anything other than a win today would be disappointing. -

Wow! Same old problems as last season in the past two games. Pathetic. -

Big second half to see if we really are a different animal this season. Do we capitulate and lose by 3 like we did many times last season or do we find a way back into this game? I fear I know the answer but let's see if we are made of different stuff than last season. -

We have to start Cantwell and ACD from now on. Hedges, Dolan, and Weimann are not quite good enough to start regularly. -

Pleased to see Gueye back in. He's an important player for us. We've missed his presence up top. I don't think Eustace thinks ACD is disciplined enough defensively to start him yet, particularly away from home. -

The front line needs freshening up. Gueye, Hedges, ACD to come in for Weimann, Cantwell, and Ohashi. I don't think Cantwell has enough in his legs for 2 starts in the same week at the moment. The defence and midfield had a poor game on Tuesday like everyone else but the spine of the team has been good this season so I wouldn't be changing that after one bad game. I'd would bring in Toth but I don't think Pears will be dropped yet as he's had a solid start to the season. We're lacking quality in the full back positions at the moment with Beck and Brittain out. Pickering is a plodder who does an OK job defensively, whereas Carter is a very good defender but not a natural fall back. -

That error hopefully gets Pears dropped. Surely Eustace has just been waiting for him to make one (which we knew wouldn't take long) -

Ohashi and Weimann off. ACD and Gueye on. Second best so far. -
I don't think we're top 2 material but I certainly think we're top 6 material. I don't see many good teams about in this league this season. Any team that is solid and efficient, which we are, will go very close this season. We also haven't really seen Cantwell and ACD yet this season and they are our two best attacking talents imo. When they are fully fit and firing, they will take our attacking play up a level or two. I don't think a front line of Weimann, Hedges, Dolan, Ohashi is quite good enough and we saw that first half today.

We're looking in very good shape this season. Solid as a rock defensively and goals all over the team. Cantwell needs to start games. He was magic when he came on. Dolan had a good game too. Batth deservedly man of the match. Two home games in a row now we've won very comfortably with around half an hour to spare. Obviously the sending off changed the game but I think we'd have gone on to win anyway. We are a real force this season. Don't wanna get carried away but I have a very good feeling about this season. The squad balance and strength in depth feels like the best we've had in a long, long time.

I wasn't able to see the game today but it sounds like we didn't play that well and a draw was about right, with some poor officiating again. 3 tough away games and we haven't lost any of them. And 3 home wins out of 3. Very happy with that start. Need to get Cantwell and Duberry in the starting line up ASAP. They are the two who can unlock defences.

Really loving the look and feel of this Rovers side. It's got everything that I feel the best Rovers sides have had in the past - solid, well organised, hard working, get stuck in, and some quality up top. Eustace is following the Hughes/Allardyce blueprint here. Get in some experienced pros, be hard to beat, and get some quality up top. It feels like a real shift in mentally from the club from previous seasons where we have essentially beena youth club. The main goal has all been about developing players and "creating value". Not this season. Eustace was not having that! We won 3-0 yesterday and didn't even get out of first gear. I can't remember the last time that happened. We didn't even have our best team on the pitch. Cantwell, Duberry, and Gueye would be starters when everyone is available (although Yuki has to be in the team somewhere!). That is some talent right there. Beck is the new Warnock. Class player. What a gem. We obviously can't get carried away after 5 games but we certainly have the ingredients for a top 6 finish in a weak league. We are hard to beat, have shown we have the resilience to come back from losing positions, experience all over the pitch, goals galore, fantastic options off the bench, some excellent attacking talent, added some pace in Duberry, and a manager who knows the league inside out. We're in for a very, very good season I think! -

Signings of the summer = the new recruitment team? I'd give them 10/10 given the restrictions in budget again. I think they did much better than we could have hoped for. They have gone for a mix of experienced championship talent and gambles from abroad. There's no way GB and the previous recruitment team would have pulled these signings out of the bag. Two of the gambles - Gueye and Ohashi - look very impressive so far. The GK position is one where I'd like us to have gone for proven talent but it wasn't to be. -

The best thing about today is that it feels like this was the start of normal service returning and us becoming the better team out of the two again. Burnley have one shot at promotion and then they're back in the lower trenches of the championship again for a long time. They are still one of the better teams in the league this year which says a lot as I don't think they're even that good. A very weak league. -

I thought we were superb second half. We would have won that game with 11 men and we almost did with 10 men. We look like a very well drilled team, and with the little bit of magic that Cantwell and Duberry can provide, we can be a very good team indeed. Beck was brilliant. What a debut that was. Gueye was really good before he got sent off. Stupid red to get though. I thought Eustace was bang average last season but he's now looking like the manager I thought he would be. -

Pears, Dolan, Hedges are not good enough to be starting games regularly. All need taking out after today. Hyam heading into that category too. Batth should be ahead of him. -

We've barely had a kick and been poor...but we should be 2-1 up. Don't think I've seen a worse offside decision. Great goal from Weimann. We need to improve second half or we will lose this one. Burnley aren't a patch on what there were 2 years ago but they're still one of the better teams in the league. -

After years and years of dismal windows, it feels good to be on the right end of one for a change. We've had an excellent window and without doubt our best one for a long time. Of course, no guarantees they will work out but I'm certainly more confident they will than the recruits we made last year. I think we push for play offs this year with that squad. Perhaps lacking a goalscorer but I think there's enough goals within the squad to offset that.
