This is a really good signing and even more incredible is it makes sense. The whole thing does. Brought him in to test the goods. Impressed by what we saw and then actually stood up to be counted and did the deal. Not often I say this but well done Rovers. Have to say I'm impressed with the summer business thus far. 2 out of 3 seem good signings and the third is an unknown. Seems like we've more to do and it seems the manager is talking with a sense of assuredness which suggests the other moves have been given the green light from up high. None of this 'we'll see' or 'we're always keeping our eyes open and we'll see what can be done if anything crops up'. It's refreshing and almost sounds like we're working to a plan!! Two hopes for me now. The first, we keep our better players. The second, the manager assembling this squad is capable enough to manage them and achieve results. Can't say I'm too optimistic about either. But this has been offset by two solid signings and for once I actually don't feel thoroughly disheartened just yet. It's far from rosy, but it feels better going into a season with strikers like Graham and Stokes than it did last year with fonz, brown, koita and Rhodes. Edit - quick question to anyone. Is 'assuredness' a word? Doesn't look right.

Glen please don't ever say "ease it into her" when discussing madame again. I was on a promise tonight but that's killed it dead.- 133 replies

And one other thing which jumped out at me was his use of the word 'we'. 'We' haven't come into this with our eyes closed. 'We' know this side finished bottom half of the Championship. Who is this 'we'? I thought he came in on his own? -

Thought I was maybe reading it with my over sensitive glasses on. I have no problem with attractive football. But as you say, it's got to be productive. Ala Souness. The same doesn't work in reverse though. If we're gonna lose it doesn't make it any easier to stomach if we've played an attractive style or not. It actually worries me that this is the blueprint. How can we be expected to buy in to this ethos when he immediately implies he'll work within the budget he's given. It's like me telling my kids to expect a wonderful summer holiday in Disney Land when I know I've only got the cash to take them for a weekend in Skegness. I appreciate Coyle can't come out and say it that frankly. But I'm just getting tired of hearing this bullshyte from everyone who traps up here. Have a right good go. Play in the front foot etc... Unless the owners are going to give anyone the funds to achieve it it's all just guff. Sadly imo this guy doesn't have the defensive capabilities to find a draw when the attacking stuff isn't working. Which makes me think this season will see us struggle even more than previous years. As the league gets stronger we get weaker. That trend only leads one way. -

I cant work out if your trying to dig me out here Stuart. -
Liam Smith is starting to look like the real deal. Big win tonight and with a body shot! Still not convinced Alvarez is the best option next. But IF he keeps going like this then the biggest names must surely be on the agenda.

That interview was rubbish truth be told. It all sounded very good but there wasn't much substance. I got the distinct impression he isn't a very intelligent bloke. Trotted out the same old tosh over and over. The only positive I can take from it is he intends to play an exciting brand of football. But that's only any good if you're picking up results. The other interview in the LT was more interesting than the rovers player one. The Mourinho comment was misguided and would have been jumped on far more if Bowyer had said it. And did he really say that about SEM? I don't know if he is or isn't still with them. But to say he knew little or nothing about them is a dangerous game. But I have to say well done to the LT for asking it. It's what I really wanted answering. Shame I can't help feeling the answer was a lie. -
It's the people on Dave I feel for. They've got to pad this out for another 30 minutes! All this talk about the heavyweight division coming back is rubbish. Joshua is head and shoulders the best and we still don't even know if he can take a punch. Fury isn't worth talking about. He's no boxer. Just a lumox. Just scrap all this bobbins with haye fighting pay day mercenaries and stick him in with Joshua. At least haye can punch. It's the only fight worth watching in the division really.

What an absolute farce that Haye fight was. I thought his last one was bad enough but this chump got floored with a jab!! I appreciate he wants to get back to Title fights. But these aren't tests at all. It's proving nothing. And next could be Shannon Briggs. Big deal. It's a bloody pantomime.

Typical MGP. Still hitting the first man from corners.

It is a great period for British boxing. But I get the impression Eddie hearn is very good at his job and a lot of these fighters would really come undone on the world stage. We seem to be producing a few very slick fighters who really look the part. Kell brook is a great example. I watch him and always think he looks very good. But after the event his opponent doesn't look bruised and battered like he's just taken a good hiding. It makes me wonder when push comes to shove if these guys have got the power to really trouble the elite.

Can't see it. Klitschko looked like the old man fury said he was. Not sure he'll fancy it.

Gobsmacked. Can't say I like the man but he did a job on klitschko. Still think Joshua will sort him out though. He can actually move unlike most heavyweights. That would make one he'll of a fight though.

I went to the match last night and I've got to say I wasn't really impressed. But i was blissfully unaware of the fact we were averaging two years less than Southampton. Truth be told it really showed. Saints, and in particular Target and Harrison Reed were so much more savvy than anything we had. Cute shirt pulls away from the refs gaze and most importantly they kept their shape superbly. We just couldn't find a way to break them down. Mahoney looked decent if lightweight. That lazy looking Chris Waddle look about him. I was also impressed by Tanner when he came on. And the milkybar kid who recently bagged a hatrick looked like he could play a bit. The ginger haired lad in the middle who got taken off might have a bit about him if he learns to get his head up and not always play sideways or backwards. I thought our centreback pairing looked ok too. Some good desire to put their bodies on the line. Although I'm always wary when a defence has to keep making last ditch blocks and tackles. It, more often than not highlights a poor reading of the game by either them personally or those around them. Not sure which after watching them just once. For me the thing which summed it up best was our right back. He kept doing his job (against good opposition it should be said) to about 90%. Then he'd slip or make a bad choice of pass and undo his good work. Not singling him out for critism. Just a good example. But it's something to build on. These boys are just that. Boys. And they kept plugging away against probably the best youth team in the land. When you consider the 'star' players were missing it was a good effort. All said and done I think it's a pity the kids we have aren't given more licence to express themselves. There seemed to be a definite and deliberate intent to get the ball to Mahoney and see what he could produce. But a severe lack of freedom to travel with the ball and take responsibility for creating an opportunity. But that said our focal point was a seventeen year old striker who was passing in the wind most of the match. It was also very apparent that we lack at youth level what we lack at first team level. A general. A player who demands the ball. I felt Tanner was as close as we had to that and I was surprised he didn't start especially against Reed. But i guess these type of player aren't easy to find at any level. Raya looked exceptionally assured and I've renewed optimism that he can play a decent level of football. Finally I apologise for the fact I don't remember the names of these boys. I was sat at the opposite end to the scoreboard and could barely read a thing.

My best mate and I went to the Isle of Wight festival a few years back. We were waiting for the ferry home after a very heavy weekend when he spotted a man in a yellow football shirt. Without considering the options he hollered "I bet you've never even been to Brazil you #@$&!!! The bloke turned round with a confused look on his face. Then and only then did I point out to my good friend, the shirt was a Norwich one.
