  1. Not many inexperienced ones are any good at it either.
  2. See below from the FA’s Essential Information For Players 2023-24 document (line after the table):
  3. Hill might well be our right back but he absolutely is a centre back.
  4. It really doesn’t. If the ref thinks it’s a foul he obviously gives it but you were talking about the benefit of the doubt. I give up.
  5. That’s still not answering my question, forget this specific incident - what do you think should happen in the below hypothetical one? The referee isn’t sure whether a foul has been committed in the box - should he: a) give the benefit of the doubt to the attacking team and give a penalty or b) give the benefit of the doubt to the defending team and wave play on
  6. I agree with that but that wasn’t my question. The question was why should the benefit of the doubt always go to the attacking team.
  7. Thank you again Final question (we’ll no promises!) I know the rule doesn’t say you should but with regard to clear goalscoring opportunities did you consider the ‘quality’ of the player who was fouled? ie. Would you have sent off a player for fouling Alan Shearer but not for fouling Chris Brown edited to add - maybe we need an ask Arbo thread 😀
  8. Re the bit in bold - why? I agree once the ref made the decision he did there wasn’t enough evidence for VAR to overturn it.
  9. Interesting - how long did you have to submit your report? I’m wondering whether it was sufficient time to ‘reflect’ on the decisions you’d made. Sorry about all the questions!
  10. Thank you. When you were active did the panel seek your input on any of your decisions which were appealed?* * this question is in no way an assumption that you got any decisions wrong 😄
  11. It’s just in the box: DENYING A GOAL OR AN OBVIOUS GOAL-SCORING OPPORTUNITY (DOGSO) Where a player commits an offence against an opponent within their own penalty area which denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and the referee awards a penalty kick, the offender is cautioned if the offence was an attempt to play the ball or a challenge for the ball; in all other circumstances (e.g. holding, pulling, pushing, no possibility to play the ball etc.), the offending player must be sent off. Where a player denies the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by a handball offence, the player is sent off wherever the offence occurs (except a goalkeeper within their penalty area).
  12. No conclusive evidence yet the ref got it right. 🤔
  13. I get complaints about that too 😄
  14. Why would PNE be our biggest game? They are nobodies.
  15. I’m not sure but ignoring that - a push in a defender’s back is always (well nearly always it would seem) a foul these days.
  16. From what I’ve read on here tonight, Leo would either have definitely saved or definitely not have saved the subsequent shot on goal.
  17. Bread - Make It With You
  18. I suspect you’d have waved play on for all of these…😄

  20. If you got the ball, it didn’t matter if you got the man as well…
  21. This is the relevant rule (part of law 12): 1. Direct free kick A direct free kick is awarded if a player commits any of the following offences against an opponent in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force: charges jumps at kicks or attempts to kick pushes strikes or attempts to strike (including head-butt) tackles or challenges trips or attempts to trip If an offence involves contact it is penalised by a direct free kick or penalty kick. Careless is when a player shows a lack of attention or consideration when making a challenge or acts without precaution. No disciplinary sanction is needed Reckless is when a player acts with disregard to the danger to, or consequences for, an opponent and must be cautioned Using excessive force is when a player exceeds the necessary use of force and endangers the safety of an opponent and must be sent off A direct free kick is awarded if a player commits any of the following offences: a handball offence (except for the goalkeeper within their penalty area) holds an opponent impedes an opponent with contact bites or spits at someone on the team lists or a match official throws an object at the ball, opponent or match official, or makes contact with the ball with a held object
  22. I feel like we should send out a search party…
