Trouble with loans in like Thomas is it's all about themselves it was never an ambitious move by us it was because he was desperate and we were. I thought he was half decent for a while but once it became clear he wasn't going to be offered a contract and he was being used less he just lost interest. He was out of favour and out of the team at Hudds yet went back and became a regular again the season after, loan here helped him immensly but did nowt for us. -

That's the system they were instructed to play though and Kaminsky was doing the same, the argument then was he was better at it than TK so should keep his place. I fully get peoples concerns about him but i don't get the hate, he can't win now if he keeps 3 clean sheets in the next 3 games some will still say drop him because there is a cock up around the corner. Anyway if Toth does eventually turn out to be good non of it will matter anymore. -

Fucking hell the hypocrisy of this is unreal have a look at yourself first and if i had a stick to shove up an arse you'd be the first in mind. Let that be an end to it instead of you and the other bitter little person having hissy fits because i have an alternative opinion. Otherwise take it to DM and stop dragging it out if you want to run your mouth off. -

Where have i ever mentioned persisting with a player in bad form if there is an alternative ? How can he be in bad form we are unbeaten FFS ! This Pears 'debate' on here has completely lost all sense of reason, what is the actual justification for dropping him right now other than a new signing ? -

Also in whisper and fingers crossed mode but we might have landed on the championship version of Hughes here ! By that i mean he'll mix it up and sometimes we'll be ugly, boring, hard to beat but other times he'll go for it. Emphasis on getting it forward quicker whether by long ball or counter and finally a big man up top. Won't always be pretty he'll manage games as he sees fit in terms of trying to not get beat or go for the three points, last season showed that. Won't always be pretty but it's refreshing to be back to what seems like Championship football, not continental that won't work without great players and not water treading just keep everybody happy and plod on. They must back him with every bit of loose change they possibly can like Williams did with Hughes albeit at a far different income level. Mention to the backroom team and recruitment mob as well. -

They brought in a lad from Boros bench to replace our ex England number 1 that is the skewed kind of thinking often associated with this club. If they work out you make money if they don't you don't why should that even need explaining ? You are being constantly obtuse over this for the sake of it so accept the difference of opinion and stop boring everyone going around in circles iv;e repeated my opinions on it a dozen times over now. I couldn't give a flying fuck if you agree or not but stop getting yourself in a tiz, take your Pears hate and suck it up for now, time will tell who is number 1 and who isn't. -

Irrelevant. He;d been poor, dropped and someone still bought him due to his experience and enough proof that he was at least average when in form. -

As i mentioned earlier in a now removed post just look at the case of Steele, awful form, relegated, dropped for a rookie, sold to Sunderland for a decent fee. Always look at the bigger picture and a 100 championship starts is a hundred championship starts and that alone puts value into an English 20 something keeper. -

Yet again, god knows how many times with you i'm trotting out the line DEVELOPMENT. Unfortunately rookies make howlers even the good ones and whether you like it or not even you and the rest have to admit the lad was - still is - learning on the job. Blame those who created this ethos at this club. As Tim Flowers once said the real key to being a good keeper isn't the great saves it's minimising mistakes because when you make one it's a goal. Pears has got away with a couple already this season, he will another but it's all about his learning curve this club prioritzed player development over promotion several years ago and all this goes with the turf. If you or anyone else thinks when the new lad comes in he won't make a real howler or two then think again, what then ? Pears in ? -

Where has this 'Pears is a total liability' sprung from ? It's total bollocks he's kept goal in a team that finished 7th, managed to hold firm enough to avoid relegation and is now in a team that is unbeaten so far in the league. Sorry but that just isn't anywhere in the realms of being a total liability, yes he's prone to the odd monumental balls up and in general is a bit shaky in certain situations but otherwise average enough. Yes he could be upgraded on and maybe the new lad will do that given time. Yes we all want a really steady number 1 but from the clubs pint of view do they want him on the bench or would they quite understandably prefer to get a few quid back ? As long as we are getting results i can't see a change but longer term there will be one. -

How many times do you need reminding that the exact same thing was said last year to try and justify Leo going straight in ? He didn't they still wanted to get him up to speed he only ended up in clearly before he was ready because of Pears injury. Eustace clearly wanted an upgraded instant number 1 but we could or wouldn't buy one so they've brought in someone to directly compete with Pears rather than instantly take over, imo of course. The bits about Pears and development/sell still stand it's something i was told a year ago but that guy has gone now so maybe Eustace will do something different who knows. He''s clearly no mug though so will probably want a good look at the new lad so you and the other triggered gang with have to bide your time, have some chamomile tea and get behind Ainsley FFS 😉 -

Whilst i agree on the last bit some at the club obviously don't. Development club remember, Pears gets 100 plus championship games under his belt, stats probably in the average zone maybe a bit higher depending on how the team is doing, English, not that old best years for a keeper ahead. He might be worth a million quid or so plus add ons and i'd suggest that's how they look at it, maybe not Eustace but the rest of them. -

I still think he's arguably the best rwb we've had in the Venky championship era it's a pity he was plonked there earlier. I listened to the Lambert one the other night and they covered all his clubs except Rovers apart from right at the beginning in a brief exchange between him and Brown. Rather odd i thought i wonder if he's still under NDA ? Either that or he detested his time here so hes just erased it. -

It did seem like Leo was Broughtons project from the bits we've heard. Was it Nixon or someone who said the Egg wanted to give him 20 grand a week straight away because a few other clubs were sniffing around ? I think Rudy has credited Benson with bringing Toth to the attention ! -

That's where i'm at. If he selects Toth then fair enough i'm all in because he'll be doing it because he thinks it's the best move but if he starts Pears again i won't be having a meltdown because funnily enough we are unbeaten. -

That's where we disagree i think he's competent enough behind a decent defence but is obviously unforced error prone. If he wasn't error prone he'd still only be average but there is always room for improvement over time yet if it was me i would've prioritised a good number 1 and spent on him. We haven't so here we are. -

And for now on here i'm backing him yet because i refuse to say he should be flung out straight away for new new lad based on the goals he hasn't cost this season i'm getting bugged by the same few posters. Just deal with it lads, in an ideal world he plays well enough we keep doing ok and someone fancies an English keeper with first team experience for a million quid or so in Jan. Then Toth comes in and is better or at worst competent enough - which Pears is most of the time. But we'll see how the gaffer rolls with it over the next few weeks. -

We know he isn't good but we know nothing of the other lad at this level and as Walsted proved sometimes it's better the devil you know even if the bar isn't high. We are at the stage on here with a select few were Pears is literally responsible for every goal and the gaffs he DIDN'T make are being handed up as if he did make them, it's horse shit to be honest. As i pointed out before Brittain, again, went dozing and lost his man, Hyam got caught in two minds and result = goal conceded AGAIN. Yet it's oh Pears should have done better there, well i'm saying TK or Raya or the England keeper might have got in front of it but the likes of Pears, Steele, Walton etc ain't saving that. The blame lies elsewhere so lets have some balance and look at the bigger picture when goals are conceded not just the keeper. -

A lot of revisionism going on here to form the narrative, not aimed soley at you by the way but... Burnley were all over us last Saturday early on and went a goal up which seems to have been erased from the memory and Pears didn't wilt, didn't cost us a goal and stood firm for the rest of the game doing his job when called upon. Which obviously is the minimum you'd expect from a keeper but that's not always been the case with him so it's a positive he came through it. Whatever he nearly might have done is immaterial because he didn't throw any goals away and there is nothing but conjecture to say anyone else, Toth or otherwise would have performed any different. I could understand the fierce arguments if we'd signed a proven Champ keeper, old Prem keeper or up and coming lge 1 keeper with 100 games under his belt in England. We haven't, therefore it's just people clamouring for a look at the new lad a situation we were in last season. His time will come. -

I want a good number 1 and hope the new lad turns out to be that but if we carry on with Pears because it's the gaffers call or the other lad turns out to be not as good then i'll support him. He ain't great he makes me nervous but by and large he's nowhere near as bad as some make him out to be on here, he's a modern era Vince O'Keefe for those who remember him. In keeper terms he's still in the development stage, blame those who turned us into that club. Brittain and Hyam have cost us as many goals but it always shows up worse when it's the keeper at fault.
