v Luton Town (a) - 17/9/22

Pathetic attempt in the second half and zero urgency when going behind, another reactive instead of proactive effort from the sidelines as well. I think they've gone there for a draw and though ok we'll do the same in the second half as the first and try and hold on. Been punished for it and beaten yet again without landing a punch on the opposition in 90+ mins, this squad is so much better than that. The mentality still seems weak though and the 'young' line provides the get out of jail free card yet again, doesn't wash with me. -

They raise the intensity levels against the better teams and we tend to get more room in midfield there aren't many vast tactical changes. When we are presented with bog standard championship sides he can't come up with anything it seems. Worrying because the league is made up of two thirds those types. We've seen all this before though not long ago under the previous manager in the covid season. There's a real danger of going backwards instead of forwards yet the squad is much better than that but this style doesn't suit. -

Sorry but got to say it again JDT is tactically detached from this league the naivety is so obvious. -

Less than a thousand for a Sat afternoon game in or around the big smoke is unusual for Rovers. Very surprised this hasn't sold out so it does indicate something amiss. -
He's just playing up to the Sunderland masses like i always said when he was here he's a crafty old goat and knows just how to play the game in the media. I doubt he'd have been advizing Harvey to leave if he was expecting a new contract from the owners here. Something at some point a year or two ago happened behind the scenes in my opinion. That tipped the balance against him after he'd been so well thought of in the Venky eyes. The backing stopped, he blamed covid but they still stretched the wage bill for him just no money for transfers. Might be wide of the mark but now the dust has settled i think he was quietly touting himself for other jobs. Word got back and the phone in Pune was switched off and lips came out both sides of the void between here and India. Alex Neil was waiting in the wings a while for this job but ended up at Sunderland instead of Mowbray. No conspiracy just my suspicion of how things played out, i wish Sunderland had stepped in and paid compo 2 years ago !!!

Those great fans who only ever turn up when Burnley is on - or Liverpool/Utd in the cup of course.

It all adds up because all the bull crap seemed to begin halfway through that season and i'm sorry there was no excuse for some of it. He blew it by changing the style of play overnight and loading a load of similar players onto the books then when it went wrong the mildest bit of questioning on it he lost the plot. Nothing whatsoever to do with covid and all about a guy who had run out of ideas but been so lofty in his position he'd never been called out on it before. Anyway he's fast becoming know as Tony 'when i was at Blackburn' Mowbray up there 😂

He besmirched his reputation here in the covid season with some of the absolute tripe he insulted this club with. It was clear he didn't give a #### about anything other than being seen to be a players man. Results, league tables, fans opinions didn't matter to him as long as he was giving everybody a game and getting good possession stats. No way does he say some of that stuff if there was fans in the ground and no other club with directors with any power sit and listen to that. I'm convinced more than ever now he wanted out and had his eye on something else but he wouldn't walk and they would't pay him up. Looking back it's clear as day he'd more or less given up here.

That's why you have to take anything Orr says with a pinch of salt. -

Tommy Spur is one of the steadiest left backs we've had in the Venky Championship decade. He knew how defend despite having no pace and no frills. -
I think we need to consider he took over a far more solid team and club now in Sunderland than the mess he he inherited here. Really wouldn't be surprised if he has a good season or two up there before it begins to resemble his blueprint of mid table Mogga. I don't know the state of their finances up there but i'll be amazed if he can retain all their best players AND spend 15 million though......

Two more trophies and one place above them in the all time English greats list so yes we are bigger ! All that's missing is a 250k population then we'd be truly mahoosive.
-
I knew they had a good history but i was surprised it was as good as it was when i looked it up. Makes me laugh when Liverpool fans used to sing you haven't got no history to a few other clubs. Real history is the likes of us and Sunderland but as pointed out the only reason they have a huge fanbase is their area, just like the barcode neighbours. If Manchester and Liverpool was 30 miles away and there was 4 other historical league clubs within 12 miles radious their crowds wouldn't look half as impressive. Anyway i look forwards to Tony telling them it's not 1974 anymore in the near future.

Transfer Window - COMPLETE. Where’s Gregg?

The facebook fans should be looking where we are now and realising the sky didn't fall in the min he left the building. In fact in many ways there was a collective sigh of relief. -

I expect some more rotating about up top but the defence to remain the same. Luton 1 Rovers 1 -

No but it makes it par for the course and not really something that can be blamed on Rovers in isolation. It's another football issue in general. -

Similar wherever you go with these outsourced catering franchise, cinema, big time boxing, music venues etc Shite but they get away with it although you'd think modest sized 'community' football clubs could offer something different. Having said that the stuff at Rovers is far from the worst you'll come across if you travel about a bit. -
So it's just a standard ST with games past knocked off then ?

Just a question of rotation that i think given the way JDT wants his front men to play there'll be a lot of rotating across the front this season. Edun is a handy utility man but he needs to be down the pecking order when everyone is fit. -

Glad Carter his proving his worth i maintained all along we should keep him and give him his chance he's like a new signing. A bit like Wharton when on loan he got rave reviews regularly and he seems similar in attitude just loves to roll his sleeves up. My kinds of players and it's often been missing to have an entire back line like that here in the last decade. -

Aye with many calling it a sideways step for a few more quid but thankfully he hasn't had a bad start here. -

These are the risks when you make money motivated sideways steps although i'm sure Coventry fans have said the same about Hyam. -
I suspect Mowbray had an inkling he was in line for this job should Neil find an opportunity to move on. It's all a bit of an amazing set of coincidences and perhaps he was touting himself for the job last time it was vacant. All sorts goes on in the background in football and nothing at all surprises me. Had he got the gig a bit early he'd have been raiding our ranks again i reckon. Who'd be surprised if Nyambe ends up there amongst others, he'll probably try and loan in Armstrong as well at some point.

Nothing against Sunderland he's their manager so the fans will back him for now but the tanker comment is quite apt. Big lumbering slow moving vessels (ideal for an old plodder as captain) that are prone to list and sink in stormy waters. If Rovers are run correctly we are a speedboat compared to that lot as has been proved in the past, Mowbray would rather shut off the engines and use oars instead.
