The Summer Transfer Window (Press Submit)
tomphil replied to RoversClitheroe's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Somewhere in media land but also other reports said a free transfer. For them to release him on a free it would mean he had Rovers lined up otherwise he'd have sat out his contract till summer. Unlikely he'd walk away from that security for a big drop in pay and by the same token if they wanted rid they'd have had to pay him up. So it might well be like for like money to keep everything straight forward, they let him go free as a mark of gratitude for service and he walks into guaranteed money for 6 months without stinging Sheff U. We once did similar with Micky Gray from Sunderland. -

It was said that Rovers just took over Flecks contract until the end of last season so it could very well hold water he was on big money here. He's cost a few hundred grand at least for 6 months and it was always destined to be a stupid money wasting gamble. If Waggots wage depended on signings in a similar way the DoFs did you can be sure he wouldn't have gone anywhere near him. No accountability though and a convenient head to roll below him. -
The State of Ewood Park!

Watched a brief Docu on Youtube about his time there and he certainly had the right idea just the wrong club in the wrong town and area. Idea was making football affordable to everyone but he was never going to fill that ground in a small town club that had always been in the shadow of the big clubs up there. He really should have done what Jack did and started by building a good team first but his pricing and fans first philosophy would get 20k in Ewood. -

Always makes me laugh when these second tier players have a moan about the Ewood crowd yet it was good enough for the likes of Hendry, Moran, Nelson, Samba, Berg, Le Saux, Oojer, Henchoz etc etc. All top class players plenty of who saw tough times at Rovers as well as good and have nothing but good things to say about playing for our lot when asked. Maybe i'm being bias but perhaps there are too many mard arses in the modern game who think hero worship is a given. -

Darlos stadium can't be that old ? Think Reynolds popped his clogs - after doing a bit more porridge for something or other. -

That doesn't mean he isn't training at Brockall and alongside Rovers fitness coaches and any Rovers players who prefer to train through summer. Unless he's kicking a ball around on Pleasy with his mates like Hendry used to do ! -

Fleck gets another contract then it's quite simply a case of someone doing someone a favour or it's we are so desperate we have no choice but to keep half a body in the building. I feel for the guy but it's a harsh world and we aren't a charity and it would stink of rank hypocrisy when every single penny is supposed to count. 'Hey Indian court please let us have some money so we can chuck ten grand a week of it at a crock'. -
Jon Dahl Tomasson - Sweden coach
tomphil replied to Tom's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
I said somewhere on here he'll either be an unexpected success or a massive flop and gone in no time in this job. Money was always on the latter, for a bright fwd thinking intelligent guy he is way too stubborn for his own good but it'll be a nice pay off when it comes. -

For the current Rovers set up to spend 800k before add ons on a young keeper is a significant investment, a third of the TK fee in real terms. So i agree we are lumbered now with no chance of any decent keeper spend and just a wing and a prayer he gets his act together. I suspect in the corridors of faux power at Ewood this was a big black mark against Broughton and not surprising really. -

We aren't talking about the often big club curtain raiser at Ewood that doesn't excuse the rest of it and there is nothing subjective about the likes of Hibernian presenting a better challenge than the likes of Stockport in the bread and butter friendlies. That's a given, common sense some might say ! Maybe Hibs or similar will come down for the curtain raiser, they can afford their coach fuel. -

So we've gone from no common sense to immature in your responses now yet you were the one who couldn't tell the difference between a light hearted bus quip and a serious post. What have you got next in your little ladybird book of passive aggressive responses ? If yo think that cost saving and playing the Stockports and Huddersfields instead of decent Scottish opposition is the best prep for a new season never mind bringing a bit of interest to fans then that's up to you but i don't. -

Do we not have A, B, C lists anymore ? We moan quite rightly about the scouting and recruiting possible cut backs but Mowbrays era built a fair sized backroom staff yet they were scouting and compiling lists of players we either had no chance or no intention of signing anyway. All looked like a bit of a window dressing exercise to be honest and all a pointless waste of money because the starting point was always list C or low on the B list at best. -
Wilder would've been found out years ago if his opposition hadn't been cherry picked but he might have actually learned something. For a brief example comparing him to another big name puncher, Mike Tyson fought 9 of the guys who made up the top 10 (and many others aside who made up the top 10 in the years after) from when he was first crowned WBC champion in 1986. Beating 8 including several title holders and other former champs before eventually losing to another regular top 10'er Douglas 4 years later. Witherspoon was the only one from 86 he didn't fight after Spoon was frozen out by Don King over money owed to him. In no way could the same be said about Wilder yet he goes in the record books as having 10 straight defences of that crown. Boxing is an illusion at times particularly where the likes of Bob Arum are involved.

Odd performance aside like Leeds away it's not as if he is brilliant in between the monumental game throwing errors. Like Raya for instance who saved and gained more points than he cost. Nope he's bang average at best and we can get away with that IF the unforced goal costing mistakes are cut out or reduced to one or two per whole season. As Tim Flowers once said you don't need to be great to be a good keeper you just need to master the basics and cut out the errors. -

If you're going in at half time losing having been crap and received a half hearted boo on the whistle then turning it into an issue about shielding the young players from the crowd that tells you all you need to know. -

Reminds me so much of the Scott Dann transfer as he always looked similar although was a better player. Sold to Rovers through necessity rather than seeking a move here and came expecting to be challenging the top end rather than just survival. All amongst the usual Venky backdrop of nonsense behind the scenes and unrest in the stands. -

Probably falls into veiled dig territory but those who were at the fans meeting are probably better placed to comment. However there have been a few on the pitch arm waving incidents and he commentated on a few games when out where he babbled on about the crowd. -

Coventry would probably welcome Hyam back with open arms and he'd probably turn into Maldini - briefly. Also being a big city club compared to us there are more bums on seats so less for him to moan about although he did play for them i presume through the periods they had virtually NO fans. Strange guy. -

Lacks common sense ? Your answer of assuming we'd ever be doing an international circuit fuels the disappointment is the only thing lacking common sense. The reality is everything is being dumbed down compared to not long ago where we might travel to Scotland for a competitive friendly or two. Now it's just circuits of smaller local clubs but even so take my answer in the context it was written and grow up, if you want to defend the club at every turn fine but don't lose touch with what is actually going on. -

Remember Doogie Freedman calling him out in all but name when he was trying to tell everyone skint Bolton were going to sign 30k a week Rhodes from Rovers because we couldn't meet the last fee instalment ? Complete nonsense the guy makes stuff up in between being an agents stooge and trying to get interest/auctions going for their clients. Yes once in a blue moon he gets summat correct but his strike rate is worse than that of Chris Brown in a Blue and White shirt. He;s derided by many sets of fans. -

Another Correy Evans this lad who is here to play sometimes and sometimes not, in order to be ready for his international commitments. Lets hope he has a few blinders as he could be an unexpected source of a few quid if someone takes an interest. -

There are so many examples of Waggot be proven to be full of shit it's laughable. A total grifter who is now surrounding himself with pals again to cover his own arse after being badly exposed as clueless once Mowbray and Venus left and he had to do all the thinking himself. -
