How is this ref still in a job?
-
The weather and ref give me no hope.

Bowyer had a much bigger budget to work with than Mowbray. We were still getting parachute money when he was in charge. He had the likes of Hanley, Duffy, Dann, Cairney, King, Conway, Rhodes, Gestede in his squads. Mowbray’s squads have primarily consisted of League One and academy players. I don’t know how people can say Bowyer didn’t have adequate backing or patience.

Boring game. Neither team able to make a meaningful breakthrough so far. We’ve marginally been the better team so far. Not sure if we need to change anything, but Brereton and Khadra not working up top right now. -

This feels like a big game to me. Too many times we’ve been in a position where winning a match would be a statement of intent but we have ended up wasting that opportunity every time. Winning here would prove that the team can perform under pressure and deliver when it matters. If we can win here I will believe that we can genuinely push for promotion this season. Good luck to the boys, make us proud! -
They might just see better opportunities elsewhere. We’ve been mid-table Championship for too long. If they are being offered better money at a PL club, a Championship club with better playoff credentials or a club in another country where they have the chance to win trophies with then of course they are going to consider and take those opportunities. The likes of Lenihan and Nyambe have been with the club for a very long time and may just want a change of scenery. Brereton, Rothwell and Kaminski have developed into fantastic players here and not surprising if they get much bigger offers elsewhere. If it’s money related we really should push out better offers to these players.

The question is how much extra are these players actually looking for? Some may be asking for £1mil+/year extra, in which case can we afford that in our wage budget? Our wage to turnover ratio was 189% a couple seasons ago, I don’t know what it is now but adding several million to wages wouldn’t help keep things under control.

I only just noticed how well the U18s are doing this season. Any standout players that anyone is aware of that has a chance of breaking into the first team in a few years?

Wow! What a goal. Had no idea Pickering could even head that well haha -
Everyone on here contradicts themselves. Most people are just looking for someone to blame for where we are now, so its either anti-Venkys or anti-Mowbray. The reality is that Venkys stuffed around with Kean at the start of their reign and then put their faith in Bowyer for too long. With the parachute money pissed away, we are just an average Championship club now. The investment in the squad from Venkys since then has been good and Mowbray has done an adequate job with limited resources. We are going to be stuck in this division for a while longer unless we have a miracle season to get promoted or slowly build up a young, exciting squad like Brentford.

Has our Matchday and Commercial income really changed significantly over our time in the Championship? It’s always been sitting at around the £3mil mark for Matchday and £5mil for Commercial. The longer we stay in the Championship, the more people lose interest.

Have to say I’m really disappointed with Nyambe today. That goal is 100% his fault. His yellow and his poor performance meant he needed to be subbed, but with no RBs in the squad we had to move Buckley there. Mowbray was then forced to bring Clarkson on in his place, and while he didn’t do that much wrong I think he didn’t add enough attacking threat for us and we lost control of midfield a bit towards the end. Travis was also out of sorts and it should have been him hooked instead of Davenport who was excellent. I’m not sure if Rothwell was the right sub to make… he was poor IMO and I think someone like Johnson would have added more bite to our midfield as they were pushing us around too much. The game was there for the taking, so it was disappointing not to come away with all 3 points. Mowbray’s best decision in the game was to bring Ayala on as it absolutely killed off Bristol City’s attacking threat. The other subs were poor.
-
1-1 is okay but a disappointing result. Mowbray's subs bizarre today. Travis should have been taken off instead of Davenport as he was really poor today, and Dolan should have been brought on for Khadra at some point as Khadra faded as the game wore on. Rothwell and Nyambe clearly affected by the contract talks as they were both really poor today. If contracts can't be resolved by January then I would say move them on and bring in replacements.
-
Standard rusty Rovers after an international break. Bristol mostly threatening from set pieces, but they're getting enough opportunities that it's a worry. Edun and Davenport have been our best players so far. Poveda and Khadra look lively but it's not come off for them just yet. Nyambe having a poor game.

https://salarysport.com/football/sky-bet-championship/blackburn-rovers/ If these salaries are accurate then it would seem wages are under control, as for 19/20 we were spending £23mil+/year. This total wage bill is well within our revenue. It would also explain why Rothwell, Nyambe and Brereton may be looking elsewhere as they definitely deserve a much higher wage than they're currently getting.
-
They’re not just barely keeping it afloat though are they? They’re literally spending up to the limit that FFP allows.
-
Do you understand how FFP actually works?
-
I mean, we’re in 7th and the players are still playing for him. I could understand if we were mid table and players wanted him out but that’s not the case is it? Whatever people think about his quality as a manger, Mowbray hasn’t significantly underachieved in his time here so ending his contract now makes no sense. This is his last chance to get us into the playoffs. If he fails then someone new should come in next season. If he succeeds there’s more of a decision to make. I have no concerns if he is given money to spend even if a new manager comes in next season. Mowbray has signed more good players than bad.

I don’t think anyone thinks we’ll definitely go into administration if Venkys leave but based on the 19/20 season numbers our revenue was lower than Barnsley’s. Our wage to turnover ratio was 189% … I can’t imagine it’s improved since then. If they do leave what will happen? We will need to drastically cut our budgets on pretty much everything. We’re utterly reliant on Venky’s money in order to spend money on players like Brero and Arma and wages for players like Ayala. We’re reliant on them to upkeep the academy and probably a myriad of other things we don’t regularly see. Are they responsible for getting us into a situation where our revenue streams are so low in the first place? 100%. But it doesn’t change the reality of the situation. A lot of fans see that and appreciate that we are still able to invest money in players, bring in good young players on loan and have a quality academy to promote players from. We have it better than a lot of clubs out there. The truth is that we’ve gone from the greatest, most passionate football owner in Jack Walker to a group of inexperienced, incompetent but (maybe) well intentioned owners in the Venkys. No owner will ever be enough and will never match Jack Walker or his legacy. But personally I have enjoyed the Mowbray era for the most part and I have been enjoying this season and am choosing to stay positive about our chances even though I know we’ve been there many times before already.
