I throw this one in for the 70s crowd Ken Beamish v Luton 76 From memory Faz ? won ball somewhee near Rovers goal line at Darwen end- passed to Metcalfe - passed to Parkes took it over half way line passed out to Kevin Hird storming up right wing - clipped cross in met by Beamo on the voley into the top corner at BBE - (ok it may or may not have sliced off his foot being Beamo ?) Whole move was probably less than 10seconds Am I the only one that remembers this??

Berkovic definitely Thompson too really good for us - carsley maybe but played out of position sometimes. I'll throw in Tony Parkes and at risk of board meltdown Grabbi who was never played in his best position or maybe managed optimally...

Opinions on Mike Newell
grinder replied to IrelandsRover's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Might be a bit controversial but I thought he was a more natural foil for Shearer than Sutton who used sometimes played into Shearers space. Newell was more of a poor mans Teddy Sheringham but actually a pretty good player. Didnt he get a European hatrick or is my memory playing tricks? -
What are your favourite sports books?
grinder replied to Bigdoggsteel's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Since this is Sports books not just football books and the topic of mental illness has already been aired Coming Back To Me - Marcus Trescothik - the cricket fans on here will have already read it - if you havent its worth a couple of days of lockdown time..... -
Very impressed Tyrone- I'll need to read my book more closely - remember Dad talking a lot about warps and wefts - sad fact of how little of this knowledge remains in what was once a textile town, still have a few of his designs though There are some videos on British Pathe too including Dad in the design studio - albeit in Burnley........
-
From my Dads 'Modern Textile Design and Production' 1949 Edition 42 Shillings !!....... Maybe Tyrone can explain - I haven't a clue !
-
Not sure he'd make Barrow Tyrone - Pleasington on a Sunday maybe - dont think I've seen anyone as technically and tactically as poor in a Rovers shirt for a long time- he won't make it here or anywhere else sadly - there is not even a glimmer of a footballer here

I asked Ronnie this question on a ground tour many years ago - he said he did get an offer from Tottenham but 'the money was exactly the same so why on earth would I want to move,......

Thanks!!?It was a screamer I recall from the right side of the box I was in BBE when Beamo volleyed it in (intentionally or not) right in front of me from a right wing cross from Kevin Hird still just about the best goal Ive seen at Ewood - about 5 passes from our goal line I think..... Don't remember John Waddingtons goal though! Would be brilliant if we could trigger a few memories for Tony with a stand naming........

Just thinking about Parkes the footballer and wondering if someone can confirm a memory here?? Back in the mid 70s -1976 I think it was, we beat Luton 3-0 at Ewood the 3rd goal being one of the best Ive ever seen -scored by Ken Beamish (of all people) following a brilliant move starting in our own box I seem to recall Parkes volleying one in at the Darwen End from outside the box in the same game - he didn't get many from distance - can't find any stats to confirm it - anyone remember it or confirm he scored in that game? Thanks

Echo that Den about being underrated as a player but not underrated as a human being - if only the modern player had his loyalty - very sad

Nearly right........?

If it were this it'll be the rest of the season and a repair- the diagram also misses of the medial meniscus which is always torn - odonohues unhappy triad- however he was holding his antero lateral compartment which could be extensor mechanism - await the MRI !

Doh someone needs to google postion of ACL before commenting have a look at its origin and insertion first - he was clutching his anterior lateral compartment didnt seem to be a significant twist but cant always tell from initial reaction -

Not fair to blame Williams both full backs are playing as wing backs easy to get behind them no one protecting downing or in front of him to give him an outlet -
Ep 122 - Jim Smith - The Bald Eagle

Totally agree - a couple of players short of promotion - for those who have never seen how they played the first goal below encapsulates his style - the second was just Noel ! RIP Jim great memories -

Some fantastic and fitting posts on this thread reminding me of how good this forum is when not embroiled in the angst of takeovers. Like a few of us I was just too young to see him play but heard enough about him from Dad and Uncles to know that Ronnie was a very special player and man. I was however lucky enough to take a ground tour a few years back and amongst many questions I asked him if he had many offer to leave - he replied 'there were a couple, but they were only paying me the same wages as I was getting here so why on earth would I want to go' - if only that were the case today - the game would be the better. RIP
