  1. Rohl has Southampton connections and apparently if Sheffield Wednesday don't reduce their compensation demands, Saints will look abroad. Eustace has been binned off once for a glamour appointment so doesn't have the Premier League cachet. I might be wrong but there are now no British managers outside Ipswich who came through the leagues at any Premier League club left now. Graham Potter is a distant memory. The others are either relegated last season or sacked yesterday. Eustace didn't work an instant miracle at either Brum or Rovers (we were never in a relegation position last season so it was a preservation rather than a salvation job) so given the player rabbles at both Wolves and Southampton, it would be a more than 50% chance he would get potted before April with a destroyed reputation if he went to either club. And absolutely no tears for Russel Martin from me. Gary O'Neill lost it at Wolves but was badly treated by Bournemouth.
  2. Actually it is a bit more spectacular, we have 11 games from 21 December to 31 January!
  3. Happy to answer my biggest fan. Beaten at his nearer post by a shot from the edge of the area which wasn't the most venomous although his view must have been impeded then after diving for Gueye's non-tap in, he seemed slow to get up for Beck clipping the loose ball straight past him.
  4. Gestede and team gave Eustace an unlikely platform of players to form the current squad capable of two good runs and one bad run. And delivered the cash in hand for Swag. The timing of the departure of head of recruitment rings all kinds of alarm bells for January. There is no forecasting what will happen beyond observing Eustace isn't a toys out of the pram sort of guy (remember the chorus of "he's just a yes man" on here ?) I think the Eustace comments about needing signings is slightly more likely to be because he is involved in the process of new signings being lined up than him politicking to try to force a signing or two.
  5. Glad to be wrong. Remarkably didn't miss Cantwell (or the other 9 unavailable) and Kamimsky was suspect rather than a wonder show. Luton are a big side. Gueye didn't look the big man on a field of midgets he sometimes can appear. Gueye had a great game and as Eustace said, give him the benefit of the doubt for the back heel lay off for Beck's goal. Kaminsky bought the feint and that is what matters... The most impressive aspect of this 5 game run without conceding is I am struggling to think of many instances when I had that sinking feeling the opposition must score. Pears has made a few saves but no MOM performance or top drawer saves have been required from him. This marvelous organisation was summed up from the 79th minute yesterday when we kept possession for 2 minutes without Luton getting a sniff of the ball and effectively killed the game off We are in uncharted territory here. Plenty of excuses for not winning but they are not needed! Long may it continue....
  6. FA Cup 4th Round is 8th February if we survive sudden death at the Riverside. In which case the QPR away game would be postponed (as it would be if QPR survive their visit to Leicester) Other February games are West Brom away on Wednesday 12th, Plymouth home on Saturday 15th and Swansea away on the 22nd - a holiday month in comparison!
  7. Beg to differ. They came 18th after minimal investment in the team. They lost key winnable must win games to send themselves down. If you want self embarrassment, look at the £100m Dingles or gave up without a whimper Blades
  8. Dangerous- expectations of a win but they have a fabulous keeper and came very close to avoiding relegation from the PL last season. Luton have been hit badly by injuries this season so will be even more dangerous opponents when players come back. On current form we will have too much for them but I fear we will miss Cantwell far more than we missed Travis at Hull.
  9. Of course we all love the boss who pulls what is commonly regarded as a not quite good enough squad into a 5 run winning mean machine. But the unity of purpose he has engendered is there for all to see and he has done this at a time when all the pointers are to the non-playing side of Rovers being a bitter shambles. Exceptional achievement.
  10. I bet the points progress chart is looking pretty again...
  11. We are over doing the knocking of Gueye. The goal clip starts running with Beck performing heroics on the left but immediately prior to that Gueye had received and instantly controlled then passed accurately an incredibly difficult ball with. two Wednesday defenders close to him. There were at least two other "he's not going to control or even get to that" moments from Gueye in his brief cameo. He looks ungainly and a bit uncoordinated and when he messes up he is so big there is no hiding place but I haven't changed my opinion that Gueye can play and is a serious upgrade on Gallagher.
  12. Really really happy- this 5 match run looked like comic book stuff before we went to Cardiff! Eustace is doing an excellent job organising and motivating this squad. Defensively even with a middling level keeper we are superbly set up limiting oppositions to virtually no clear cut chances. And there is enough quality in the side that the skill and application gel long enough to create a goal. The hard work on left and right in the build up to Gueye's header were exceptional. As for individual players, JRC was showing how good he is and creates a selection headache for Saturday. I fear we will find out how good Cantwell really is when he is missing on Saturday- for such a showy looking player he does a lot of accurate basic stuff really well. Dolan always struggles against a big physical side but his mobility means he is always rushing them- lost count of the number of misplaced Wednesday passes after Dolan chasing down. Talking of Wednesday being big, how many of the have bellies on them. OK Belly Bannan is perhaps understandable but... Talking of mistakes, Eustace seems to have coached Rovers out of making as many as we used to. Talking of selection headaches, 9 players unavailable last night yet we still were rock solid, had good Championship quality coming on in the second half and still John Buckley was sitting on the bench at the full time whistle. Loving it!
  13. So, a multiple choice question: - club is successfully keeping moves for signings quiet - there are no signings - there will be signings but so underwhelming you can't find them on wikipedia
  14. Bannon will make a big difference compared with the midfield they had against PNE but Trav gives us more steel in the centre of the park.
  15. Wednesday have quietly climbed to 9th after an indifferent start so are dangerous opponents. Watched that game against Preston North End which was an odd one. North End should have been 3 up rather than just the 1 in the first 20 minutes. Intelligent passing was getting them in round the back at will combined with Wednesday generosity in making mistakes. Second half, Wednesday were a different proposition but didn't look like scoring until a slick move got them in behind the defense for a simple tap in. Although. Wednesday stepped it up looking for a winner, Preston had few alarms and had a golden chance themselves. Wednesday have two good wingers, Windass can score and Chelobah excites the locals. They are much more potent than Hull but not as dangerous as Leeds or Boro against whom we kept clean sheets. Cautiously optimistic we will get at least a point.
  16. Cantwell is proving both hard working and a class act for Rovers. Great signing.
  17. Three consecutive 1-0 wins now is the hallmark of a well coached side. We didn't really look in trouble for the vast majority of the game and always looked the class side of the two when in possession, not least the way we swept the ball around to force the og winner. Apparently 8 players unavailable but unlike in previous seasons when so many were missing, it was not noticeable today. A very thorough job well done in bad weather conditions. Great to be back in the top 6!
  18. There has to be some real quality sitting on the bench at Premier League clubs desperately in need of games. Championship clubs will be snapping them up on loan in January- will we?
  19. We have beaten two sides challenging at the top. Now to see if we can tackle the Championship anyone can beat anyone else syndrome in our two Yorkshire visits.
  20. Being simplistic, I want sufficient to be in 6th so that it gives Venkys no hiding place when the Window opens.
  21. Given the abuse Dolan has received, why would have any loyalty to the fans? The renewal negotiations will be purely transactional and unless we are in the Prem, he is going.
  22. Palace have more or less confirmed this as the case. They knew we were vulnerable and exploited it.
  23. Obviously this will be won or lost on the training ground with Tronstadt paired with someone from JRC, Baker and Buckley. If that doesn't work we are likely to struggle. Would still like ADC get some minutes if that isn't a dangerous luxury. Has to be said, as things stand, we have survived selling our best players and losing an iconic manager better than Hull have. But on Saturday, both clubs are in the same bad ownership off-field management mess except Hull get the crowds and Swag has killed our's. Here's to the loyal away fans cheering us onto victory.
  24. Boro have scored 4, 5, 6 in their last three games so we are on for a 7 goal thrashing. If we defend like Oxford, we wuill deserve it too. We have had a very decent run of results at the Riverside since the turn of the century so here's hoping the absence of talisman Sam (only scores at Boro) Gallagher doesn't cost us.
  25. Citeh are human after all. But where did that Spurs performance come from?
