Rovers vs. Wycombe - 19th Sept, 3pm

Three not much commented upon big plusses for me from yesterday. 1) inch perfect and perfectly weighted (and easy to totally cock-up) passes from Rothwell and Buckley for goals 3 and 5. 2) Brereton running half the pitch with the ball driving into their defence before the lay off to Rothwell who allowed the ball to run on a little to give himself the window and angle for the slide rule pass for Arma 3) Our third goal also send a warning to the League that any team over committing forward for a set piece against us does so at the peril of letting one in at the other end. I would expect corners and free kicks against us might not see our penalty area being quite as crowded in future. -
High quality LB- we have so much talent coming through from the Academy now that anything else is in the nice to have category. As for sales, thankfully the Prem window closes before our's and before any Managers are getting desperate. I just hope the Raya and King deals get done pronto.

In the formation we played yesterday, Dack would be a straight replacement for Brereton who was vey much an old fashioned inside forward yesterday. I am salivating at the prospect of seeing Dack, Dolan and Armstrong on the pitch together. Potentially the most exciting football since early Souness.

Got no problem pleading poverty during the window especially with FFP sanctions threatening. I know a 5-0 romp is not a day to judge your left back but I felt Bell's limitations during the stroll in the park became very clear. Bell had the freedom of the Riverside. It was clear Ainsworth told the right side of his defense not to worry about leaving Bell in acres of space. He didn't use it to hurt them at any time all game. This totally convinced me of the urgent need for a new left back.

Just confused by most of the posts on here. Somebody thinks we have a hole in midfield. Must have swollen Johnson, Holtby, Rothwell, Buckley, Evans, Davenport, even Bennett and Rankin-Costello before taking into consideration our long term injuries. 5-0 and we are all miserable.

Luton and Reading the only 100% win records after two games so far. We might come to regret not getting the Hatters relegated... -
Rovers vs. Wycombe - 19th Sept, 3pm

All 14 players did their part in as comprehensive a performance as I can remember since leaving the Premier League. 70% possession. I was willing Bell to beat the first man with his crosses and he failed all afternoon. The stats showed our crossing as 0/0! Wycombe started very strongly and had they scored early (I wouldn't have fancied Walton with that chance they had in the 7th minute), we could have been looking at Charlton and Luton all over again but the magic of Dolan won the penalty and then scored a very composed goal and we were off and out of sight. One very happy weekend- thanks lads! -

Nearly scored with his first touch. Slotted in seamlessly and didn't put a foot wrong. Kept possession and passed accurately. -

That was superb but has to be said Wycombe are the play-off promoted side and even only got into the play-offs on an arithmetic adjustment. They started really well but we held out for the first ten minutes. Loved that sweeping move end to end for the 3rd. Dolan looking unplayable in advanced positions. -

Dolan sensational for that penalty. Armstrong looking reliable from the spot. -

We need a wider pitch. So many throw-ins! -
The front end working dramatically better this season.

Every indication Mowbray is over thinking this one and will confuse the hell out of our players. Expect a dire first half. -
Well that was good fun. The City number 4 was the class act on the Park but other than that Rovers easily as good as City in every department. Eastwood well organised. Thought the two central defenders were excellent and liked the performance of our number 2. Number 4 a bit agricultural but effective and our 7 is quick. Agreed our first sub made a big difference. Their keeper rightly sent off for an awful challenge in the 96th minute.

Whatever the demerits of Raya, Walton was a much worse keeper in every respect. Not selling Raya would have meant not having the cash to buy Gallagher and that would have been a much better option too. We could probably have pushed the boat out to bring Reed back on loan before Fulham got to him and that would have been a massive positive. A seriously crap piece of business all round.

The Europa League tie between Riga and Tre Fiori (San Marino) was called off because of strong winds in the Latvian capital last night. They are currently playing it (ko 10.00 local time) and it is 0-0 at HT. I suppose there have been games kicking off so early before but I cannot think of any. Congratulations to Maltese Champions Floriana on their 1-0 win away to Linfield. The other three Maltese sides failed - Valletta at home to Bala Town of Wales in an earlier round- oh dear! -

My hunch is there will be a significant reward for clubs that instil and train for a shoot on sight policy this season. The first two goals at Bournemouth suggest that. Interesting to see Roverseas' analysis that Rovers have had zero chances from inside the six yard box so far this season and 50% of chances have come from outside the 18 yard box. Early days so statistics are misleading but perhaps we are getting our shooting boots on and maybe a significant factor behind selecting Johnson. -
I hear Danny Graham is buying a lovely cottage in the Langdales.
