  1. All 14 players did their part in as comprehensive a performance as I can remember since leaving the Premier League. 70% possession. I was willing Bell to beat the first man with his crosses and he failed all afternoon. The stats showed our crossing as 0/0! Wycombe started very strongly and had they scored early (I wouldn't have fancied Walton with that chance they had in the 7th minute), we could have been looking at Charlton and Luton all over again but the magic of Dolan won the penalty and then scored a very composed goal and we were off and out of sight. One very happy weekend- thanks lads!
  2. Nearly scored with his first touch. Slotted in seamlessly and didn't put a foot wrong. Kept possession and passed accurately.
  3. That was superb but has to be said Wycombe are the play-off promoted side and even only got into the play-offs on an arithmetic adjustment. They started really well but we held out for the first ten minutes. Loved that sweeping move end to end for the 3rd. Dolan looking unplayable in advanced positions.
  4. Dolan unplayable. Great goal.
  5. Dolan sensational for that penalty. Armstrong looking reliable from the spot.
  6. We need a wider pitch. So many throw-ins!
  7. The front end working dramatically better this season.
  8. Anyone got the team sheets?
  9. Every indication Mowbray is over thinking this one and will confuse the hell out of our players. Expect a dire first half.
  10. Well that was good fun. The City number 4 was the class act on the Park but other than that Rovers easily as good as City in every department. Eastwood well organised. Thought the two central defenders were excellent and liked the performance of our number 2. Number 4 a bit agricultural but effective and our 7 is quick. Agreed our first sub made a big difference. Their keeper rightly sent off for an awful challenge in the 96th minute.
  11. Whatever the demerits of Raya, Walton was a much worse keeper in every respect. Not selling Raya would have meant not having the cash to buy Gallagher and that would have been a much better option too. We could probably have pushed the boat out to bring Reed back on loan before Fulham got to him and that would have been a massive positive. A seriously crap piece of business all round.
  12. Social distancing
  13. The Europa League tie between Riga and Tre Fiori (San Marino) was called off because of strong winds in the Latvian capital last night. They are currently playing it (ko 10.00 local time) and it is 0-0 at HT. I suppose there have been games kicking off so early before but I cannot think of any. Congratulations to Maltese Champions Floriana on their 1-0 win away to Linfield. The other three Maltese sides failed - Valletta at home to Bala Town of Wales in an earlier round- oh dear!
  14. My hunch is there will be a significant reward for clubs that instil and train for a shoot on sight policy this season. The first two goals at Bournemouth suggest that. Interesting to see Roverseas' analysis that Rovers have had zero chances from inside the six yard box so far this season and 50% of chances have come from outside the 18 yard box. Early days so statistics are misleading but perhaps we are getting our shooting boots on and maybe a significant factor behind selecting Johnson.
  15. I hear Danny Graham is buying a lovely cottage in the Langdales.
  16. Crikey we are in trouble with injuries: Long term- Dack, Travis, Butterworth. This weekend- Magliore, Carter, Gallagher, Ayala, Evans Recovering- Johnson
  17. Sod it, I am cancelling my monthly subscription.
  18. Fitness and stamina levels can be tested in the gym. If he is there, he plays. If he is short by a small margin, start and replace If he is a bit further away, sub's bench Further away still, in the commentary box.
  19. It is a given Ainsworth will win the dug out battle. The question is are his players close enough to Rovers in their abilities for Ainsworth's smarts to deliver the result? Last season, Charlton and Luton players were good enough to deliver their boss' plans at Ewood.
  20. That is a pity. Emmanuel Monthe of Tranmere defending against Akinfenwa on a pudding of a pitch at Prenton Park was the highlight of my football watching last season. Akinfenwa scored a classic poachers headed goal as well- he lost his marker. Hard to believe anyone could miss him but the Tranmere defence did!
  21. Akinfenwa- what a unit! Nearly 38 years old and 18 stones apparently. As mobile as a lump of concrete but he certainly knows how to time his shuffles to poach goals.
  22. Oh no. At least we have a lot of midfield cover.
