Rovers vs. Wycombe - 19th Sept, 3pm
philipl replied to J*B's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Chapman scored a fine individual goal against Fleetwood. Match report: A minute later, Buckley went to ground in the box following a positive burst forward by Chapman, but his penalty appeals were waved away. Rovers threatened again when Buckley’s ball across the face of goal was just out of Chapman’s reach, but the hosts opened the scoring against the run of play on 14 minutes when Paul Coutts’ corner was volleyed goalwards by Danny Andrew and Evans headed home from 10 yards out. It was almost 1-1 four minutes later, as Chapman played in Brereton, but Coleman made a smart save with his legs. Rovers had an even better opportunity to draw level a minute later, as Nyambe was tripped by Andrew in the area, but Brereton saw his spot-kick saved by Coleman. On 26 minutes, Rovers were deservedly back on level terms when Chapman drove at the Fleetwood defence, before picking out the bottom left corner from the edge of the area. -
I have said it before but there is a high probability of going through the entire season without fans being allowed into grounds.

Cannot see us winning this one. 1-2 to Wycombe. -
Boro are not known for skimping on paying wages. The rest of their backline squad were judged to be better value for money than Ayala.
-
We were spoiled by Tosin last year and still we leaked badly at the back. Really hope he can form an excellent partnership with Lenihan.
-
Hope we are not all pinning too much hope on Ayala. The Boro players keeping him out of contention are nothing to write home about. I suspect Mulgrew, Williams and Evans will not be at Ewood by mid October based on Mowbray's moan about the suits. Is there any substance about the Greg Cunningham talk on here?

I didn't watch it. One of my least favourite people was proved right. Bruce said he would play his second string and win. He did. They did. Putting it simply if we cannot dominate Newcastle Reserves, there is something very wrong. Sounds like we were told to keep possession rather than shoot. Sounds like Ben muffed his chance to lead the line. Sounds like Dolan twinkled again. Sounds like Ayala was sorely needed. Sounds like zero inspiration. -

I know I said don't fiddle with Saturday's team but I would really like to see Buckley and Davenport given proper chances. -

With Greaves, we'd win 5-3 every week.

Newcastle fairly comprehensively undid West Ham and looked far more potent in a long time so a bit of a thrashing might be on the cards tomorrow night. We have been drawn against them rather often in the past 30 years so getting progress past them is rather over due. Just hope Ben is not asked to take a penalty... I would stick with Saturday's line up but fancy we will see Tony's tombola. -
Dack would displace Holtby in the Bournemouth 4-3-3 set-up.
-
Isn't there a Bournemouth player out of shot getting back to cover the line at the back post?
-
Haven't got time to re-watch it so thanks for doing so. I did wonder if Bournemouth had got the measure of the ref given Rovers rarely foul to the extent they were penalised in that first half. Your point about shooting is well made. We missed hitting the target on at least those four times when anything directed between the sticks would have stood a 50%+ chance of going in.
-
Actually I disagree. After five minutes Cook and Smith knew exactly how to snuff out his trickery. It would have been a fantastic learning for Tyrhys against very seasoned Premier League level defenders and hopefully the coaches will be running every second of his time on the pitch at Bournemouth through with him. Definitely keep him for impact off the bench particularly in combination with a second speedster- shock horror why not throw Dolan and Chapman on together?. We lacked pace in the first half where starting Rothwell could have made a difference
-
Thanks, I did so at half time. Interesting that Bournemouth use the live feed from BBC Radio Solent rather than having their own commentary team. Imagine having Radio Lancashire and getting pre-match comments from Turf Moor...

Very encouraging performance with the gutting defeat - all too predictable and in fact I predicted back at the start of this match thread. My fault lads. Seriously, we should have won today except from Red Sea parting of the waves at the back and three really excellent strikes from Bournemouth. Both Dolan and Rothwell were electric when they came on but the Bournemouth experienced defenders pretty quickly got tight enough to Dolan to snuff him out and sadly force the error which cost us the defeat. I hope Mowbray perseveres with Dolan because he is going to win more for us than he loses and he certainly injects a level of watchability. Anybody seen a replay of our disallowed goal? I thought we were played on at the back post.
-
Very encouraging debut. The defence parted four times in front of him- three excellent strikes with no chance of saving but the strike which he could get to he did and produced a save you only realise how good it is when replayed in slo mo afterwards. Really like his distribution. Ball going two thirds of the pitch and giving our players a very decent chance of winning it. Noticed second half it was all pass it short so Mowbray must have taken the aggression out of him at HT.

Mowbray is simply not good enough
