  1. This is going to bring the ire of the board down on me. But from the moment Venkys wrote the terms of reference for the two sets of consultants who came to Ewood just after relegation in 2017, they started thinking big. The execution of their plans have hit problems in what their money has been spent on has not always worked but this is football. As owners you don't run a hell hole of a club for six years and be widely and rightly derided as joint worst owners in football then suddenly get the right to appoint football geniuses because you have accepted the findings of two sets of management consultants. Their plans are more gradual than fans would want but if we reach the Premier League and stay up their long term view of building and stability and fans' patience will have been rewarded. What we have been frustrated by is how Venky's subsidy has been spent. Rovers should have got more bang for their buck from £12m than we have seen so far. Equally Mowbray (and not the players) has dropped enough points already this season to be the difference between challenging the top two and being outside the play-offs. But if as owners you have spent 2011-2016 appointing utter dross in and out of the board room and manager's office, Tony Mowbray is going to be about the best you are going to have available to hire in the Spring of 2017.
  2. If you didn't have a pre-formed opinion, then you would have bemoaned three instances of awful first touches but otherwise a pretty decent performance. The entire Bristol City team were bullied by the entire Rovers team, including Ben. As I wrote at the time, I was amazed to see it but I saw the start of a £12m strike partnership. It might become good enough to be a menace in the Championship but no way would it thrive in the Premier League.
  3. We have got two sides - one which P5 W4 D1 L0 and a very different one which pulled off the best win of this season and probably several seasons back. Hope Mowbray doesn't split the difference and resurrect something approximating the confused bunch who played awfully and lost 8 times.
  4. Just looked at the global football fixtures. We are almost the only game of any consequence anywhere on Monday evening. We had better put on a decent show...
  5. Only 4th worst Manager in the PL this decade
  6. What this chat does do is remind us that if Tony serves up another Charlton or Luton on Monday night, all the grievances are coming straight out of the locker. Forewarned should be fore-armed.
  7. The players he rested were clearly suffering from knocks and exhaustion by the end of the previous game. It still doesn't obviate the fact the team at Charlton had by far the best of the game. We got thrashed at Plymouth, not at Charlton.
  8. We did try to win the League One title. I can think of five games towards the end of that season when we had promotion winners good fortune. Quite simply our luck ran out at Charlton. We were comfortably the better side but lost unlike at Plymouth where we deservedly lost to the better side on the day who were enjoying a purple patch.
  9. Would have been goal of the decade- I give you Ruben Rochina:
  10. All 5 English and Scottish club should survive their Europa League draws.
  11. This topic is so difficult because Garner '80s, Shearer '90s, Tugay '00s are so obvious. Players like Douglas and Faz straddled two decades. Rhodes first half of this decade and Dack second half would be my choice but both fall below numerous players from previous decades.
  12. I have not seen Buckley at any level other than Championship. I'd say he has had two decent appearances, one ok and one stinker. He should not be written off for the stinker.
  13. Spuds get lucky. Chelsea a very long shot to prevail v Bayern. The two Madrid's are stiff but beatable opposition especially with home second legs. That said Real v City the outstanding tie and everyone wants the winner of Atalanta and Valencia next. Dortmund no pushover for PSG.
  14. Banana skins don't usually come in blue and white stripes (or whatever concoction Wigan play away in) but this one does. I haven't recovered from Charlton and Luton at home yet... If we get to 23.00 on Monday next and have collected another three points I will be very very happy And relieved. Answers to all Q's are in Tony's tombola...
  15. I think we all expect a thin attendance against Wigan but if we win and produce a decent performance on TV then we should be looking at 20,000+ on Boxing Day to kick start much better Ewood gates next year. Going to be very important to take a large raucous following to Huddersfield.
  16. Thought Sam was immense yesterday. Ran himself into the ground and a big part in our victory by hurrying Bristol into repeated mistakes. Starting to look like an astute acquisition.
  17. Magloire put in a decent shift in Rovers' 3-1 win over Leicester Friday night before being subbed on 75. Contained a dangerous Leicester forward line pretty well. Isn't Hart injured currently?
  18. Rovers paid City £1m for the season long loan of Tosin. There is no recall clause apparently so they would have to pay serious compensation to negotiate a recall.
  19. Agreed. He was clearly intimidated by the crowd and was giving nonsensical fouls against Rovers (at one point, any ball won by Lenihan was getting penalised) and allowing all kinds of subterfuge by Bristol City to go unpunished. For the foul count to be 16 each when Bristol turned into one of the dirtiest sides we have faced says it all. The yellow card for Gallagher was for a nothing tap when there were at least five yellow card challenges by Bristol City players. It also seems everybody except the officials saw an elbow smash by Lee Johnson on a Rovers coach then threw the ball after the half time whistle yet Johnson wasn't cautioned again for either incident.
  20. This is the jinxes everything post but suppose we make it to the play-offs and win them. Then what??? Top half of Premier League class: - Bottom half of Premier League class: Tosin, Lenihan, Dack Not Premier League class but one or two might pleasantly surprise us if given the chance: Walton Nyambe Cunningham Bell (yes I know but the kid has talent to spare) Travis Gallagher Brereton (still very young) Butterworth Rankin-Costello Mols Fisher Could hack a game or two without letting the side down: Williams Johnson Evans Downing Not Premier League class/ need either wrapping up for return to Championship or shipping out: Mulgrew Bennett Rothwell Armstrong (they are all quick in the Prem) Graham (tempus fugit) Lieutweiler Too far off to venture an opinion on: The rest
  21. Had a look at Brentford 1 Fulham 0 expecting to see a Raya master show. In fact the Fulham keeper performed heroics keeping the score to 1-0.
