  1. Watched some of Tranmere v Wycombe yesterday while eating lunch (wife is away on business). Ainsworth has melded a team of little talent into League 1 leaders- certainly looks like a boss with quiet authority who knows exactly what he is doing. Otherwise the game screamed at the gap in quality between League 1 and the Championship. Rose coloured glasses but I don't recall any Rovers games in League 1 where both sides were as lacking in talent as on display at Prenton Park. "Highlight" was the clash between 16 stone 37 year old (check his Wiki entry) Wycombe centre forward Ade Akinfenwa and the Tranmere Rovers number 6 Monthe who must be the biggest unit playing in the football league- as broad as Akinfenwa but because he is 4 inches taller doesn't look as heavy. As you would imagine, this was a battle of plodders. That said, in a game destined for 0-0, Akinfenwa scored Wycombe's first with a beautifully taken poacher's header and Monthe has a very decent eye for a pass.
  2. I have no doubt Simon Smith has always written as a Rovers supporter through and through. The club needs to look at itself for the footballing reasons opinions are so divided. Picking up on JH Rovers' fabulous post, in terms of financial support and infrastructure, Rovers "natural" position if we have to play in the Championship is at the top challenging for automatic promotion. We are significantly under-performing that which is dividing the fans and editorially putting the LT into a no win position. Especially as Tony Mowbray's pronouncements have become increasingly befuddling and the paper has to report them with a straight face..
  3. Oh dear, 4-0 win is a 4-0 win but the scoreline hides a multitude of sins.
  4. I am between the two of you and feel reasonably optimistic PROVIDED we get the succession from Mowbray correct
  5. Absolutely delighted Mowbray has picked the right formation, tactics and subs for today's game.
  6. https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/news/politics/quicktest/18037967.rovers-must-have-plan-not-simply-chase-golden-egg/ Howard still loves us. Strategy right, execution wrong is probably the best summation of where we are today.
  7. Stick this here as it will appeal to the people who read about the Academy. Fascinating read https://dtai.cs.kuleuven.be/sports/blog/player-vectors-characterizing-soccer-players-playing-style
  8. Rovers ranked 9th, quite probably 7th only 12 months ago.
  9. Getting worried about this one. Do or die for the Tykes and meh for us. Barnsley were ok against Stoke if you ignore three ludicrous gift goals. Stoke didn't paste them the way the score might have suggested.
  10. The squad is good enough to achieve top half comfortably. The majority of our defeats have been caused by the dug out getting it wrong.
  11. Not at all. Somebody intervened to over rule and reverse a decision already made by Venky's to appoint Warnock. That somebody cost Venky's a cool £200m minimum if you make the reasonable assumption Warnock's 8th promotion would have been with us. An expensive lesson for Venkys and last hurrah for somebody.
  12. Warnock was off the scale derogatory about Rovers when engaged and by-passed for Coyle. Getting Rovers up from where we are is a huge ask. He has walked away from a much easier job at Ca rdiff.
  13. At the end of the table we no longer have any interest in, I would suggest Bristol City are certainties for one of the promotion slots. To be in the play-offs when they have the injury list they have had is an astonishing achievement. As a matter of academic record we are ten points away from 6th - this is a dramatically worse season for us than last season was.
  14. Rovers should comprehensively stuff Barnsley. We could easily lose this one. Probably grind out a numbing 2-1 win.
  15. 11 of yesterday's 27 games ended as draws. Unprecedented number of replays coming up.
  16. As expected, Leeds nothing special. If we had started with Buckley as a forward midfielder rather than Adam Armstrong doing a tribute act to me in my prime, we would probably have taken a point. Referee was abysmal.
  17. I don't see the last 5 minutes against Sheff Weds as a turning point, more a phew 3 points!
  18. https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/news/politics/quicktest/18025545.we-expect-far-more---billy-barr-rovers-u23s-victory/ Excellent match report and frank words from Billy Barr.
  19. Has Armstrong had more than one touch? We are playing with ten men.
  20. Seven years of abject grief but the two most recent years as model overseas owners.
  21. I replied to the post suggesting that efforts were made to ensure the Kentaro-backed Venky's were the only bidders. The Australians were a major threat then they were somehow out of the equation and not because they had done anything or had lost interest apparently.
  22. Steve Kean is hated already. If what I hear what he did is true and became public knowledge, it would be him and not Guy Fawkes on the bonfires of Blackburn tonight.
