  1. Looks like there is going to be an official enquiry into what has gone on here. I suspect a bunch of city whizzes have set up insurance backed derivatives which made crashing Thomas Cook financially far more attractive than the hard work of turning round an ailing group. The sort of vulture capitalists who lost a fortune betting against the Supreme Court outcome this morning but who are shorting all over the place in the hope of making derivative based profits from abject misery of No Deal.
  2. Condor is fundamentally profitable as are the operations in Belgium and Scandanavia. The British parent is the debt burdened cash burning dog. Note the bridging loan is entirely legitimate under EU rules. The lack of State aid for Thomas Cook in the UK is entirely a Tory political ideological position.
  3. I was in the Nuttall Street and I couldn't see anyway Lill could have lived through that. Got a great view of Brotherston's lob though.
  4. Yes it is too early but if the corpses aren't moving four games from now when a quarter of a season has passed, they are going to need 50 points from 30 games to be certain of survival which is getting close to play off form. Very tough division to maintain that sort of form in.
  5. Fucillo landed neck first from 6 feet on the frozen pitch in that Keely tackle. Terrifying.
  6. I know Armstrong gets the plaudits for a lovely strike from outside the area but Dack's goal was control guts and determination. If he were just a fancy soft touch, no way would he have ever scored that.
  7. That 4-0 FA Cup win was Chris Samba's debut game.
  8. And you come home when the rescue flight tells you to come home , not when you are booked to. For people due to come home today, they get a freebie extension because the rescue operation is not in full swing yet (assuming the hotel is being generous) but basically it is a matter of filling the rescue shuttle flights as they happen so if you get told your flight is at 3am tomorrow morning your choice is staying somewhere which may or may not be getting paid to host you and buying your own way home at the end of your holiday or getting on that 3am flight. In Malta I helped shift the island away from inclusive tourism over a decade ago so unlike Greece, Cyprus and Turkey the damage is minimal. Thomas Cook tours and Airline accounted for 0.03% of the travel industry. The two rescue flights are going at the time the Thomas Cook departures were planned for this week. Cook were not a year round operator in Malta so just five weeks of business is being lost and only one hotel is being hit hard.
  9. Ok I would overload the left and use Rothwell with Dack and DG central. I don't think Luton would cope on their right flank with that and Rothwell cutting in with Downing over lapping outside could cut them to ribbons.
  10. We have posts discussing the next five games but in the spirit of one game at a time let's talk about Luton. By the way I will settle for five 1-0 wins now, not being greedy or anything. There are plenty expecting us to hammer an outfit which was in League 2 when we were sending expeditionary forces around the nether regions of League 1. And to be honest, having watched a bit of Luton's recent games I have to agree Luton look to be vulnerable for a thrashing at Ewood the way they play. Assuming Tosin's knock is recovered and Rothwell has no more guts left to throw up I would play both and go Walton Wing backs Bennett and Downing Three at the back Adarabioyo Lenaghan Williams Midfield Johnson Hotby Offensive midfield Rothwell Dack Gallagher DG up top Reasoning is Luton play a flat back four zonal marking so there are plenty of opportunities to get round them, in between them and half chances are gifted plentifully which I would entrust Graham with more than anyone else. Luton also have a flat line across the edge of their area which they don't come forwards to block from so having scored from outside the area in each of our last two games there is a definite opportunity to make it three goals from distance in a row for Rovers. Also worth noting Luton defence are neither the quickest nor strongest. They do rely heavily on having an excellent keeper. Going forward Luton tend to play through the middle and strike on sight of goal. That would favour having the back three working together for Rovers. Not making a prediction beyond expecting an open game.

  12. @MishaGlenny · This ZDF reports there are 140,000 German holiday makers affected by the #ThomasCook collapse, presumably in addition to all the Brits. There are few events which encapsulate the precipitous decline of Britain’s capacity to manage or govern its way out of a paper bag than this. Quote Tweet ZDF heute Rund 140.000 Pauschalreisende sind mit deutschen Reiseveranstaltern von #ThomasCook unterwegs. Was bedeutet die Pleite des britischen Unternehmens für die Urlauber? ZDF-Reporter Stefan Schlösser vom Frankfurter Flughafen: 0:57 468 views
  13. Terribly sad to see such an old-established firm and great name go. Even more so for the 500,000 people whose holidays have been ripped apart (150,000 of them Brits)and the hundreds of thousands more whose future plans and money have been lost. In steady state there was a rescue plan. BUT The banks needed a Brexit contingency which represents a dead loss with zero commercial upside. Couldn't be done. 1) If we Brexit the economy shrinks irrespective or deal or no deal. Less disposable income means discretionary spend on holidays suffers far more proportionately. 2) The currency markets see the £ drop if Brexit seems more likely and £ rises if Brexit is less likely. Thomas Cook has expenses in other currencies and income disproportionately in £. So their foreign exchange loss exposure was horrible (as is true for all British companies exporting- Brexit has hit export industries particularly hard resulting in the little spotted balance of payments going horribly badly in the last three and a half years and hence the extreme susceptibility of the £ to Brexit news. If we Brexit, in addition to the economy tanking, a currency crisis is not far away and with that will be a further down rating of Government bonds and a run away increase in the cost of financing the National Debt.) Brexit is bonkers and Thomas Cook is yet another casualty.
  14. Sorry, your reply was to another of his posts. My view on Holtby are a substantial signing on bonus but otherwise within the wage structure give or take an adjustment which allows the new Dack deal to slot into as well.
  15. Hey guys, Gallagher is putting in more than a shift every game and we are in the top six in the current form table. Chill
  16. That is an off the scale great result from the u-18s. City were P5 W5 going into that gamne. Reading the City report, the win was clearly deserved by Rovers. A number of posters on here have been indicating the u-18s are exceptional and that result vindicates their views. Perhaps one or players are good enough to come straight through and challenge for first team places like Phil Foden has done at City? Any thoughts?
  17. Fact. It is his expectation as it says on the thread... Reality is we have signed a 29 year old with experience of Bundesleague, Premier League and international football with Germany who apparently terrified the rest of the squad with his ability when training with us in the summer. Pretty reasonable to be excited at the prospect. We have not seen much of Tosin either who almost certainly would not have been loaned out if Leclerc's injury happened earlier than it did. That is conjecture based on fact...
  18. Three of those five are against clubs above us in the league.
  19. Getting reports that Thomas Cook talks failed and it will collapse
  20. Pretty certain Travis was under the weather. Mowbray said there were other players affected. Good point about how Rovers seem prone to these bugs. Then spending six hours on a coach because of traffic jams with one person throwing up perhaps it isn't all that surprising folk ended up ill.
  21. West Brom gifted us two first half goals with two defensive howlers and have repeated the dose for Huddersfield's benefit. Huddersfield have not gifted three in return unlike our lads... Huddersfield no great shakes but press very high up the park and show glimpses of Premier League class. They are there to be taken if Slaven Bilic sets the alarm clock in the West Brom dressing room for about five minutes from my posting this...
