  1. South Wales has a relatively small population - under 500,000 from in Cardiff. You cannot say Venky's haven't outspent most of the clubs' owners mentioned- they were advised by venal cretins so mostly wasted.
  2. Yes the plan to move to a stadium where the Bournemouth training centre is (which they own) away from their leased tiddler are on hold as money was deemed needed for team strengthening. 25,000 would not be a problem filling for Bournemouth in a conurbation of over 250,000. Look how Brighton sell out 32,000 having moved from a 7,000 stadium. Ditto Southampton also selling out 32,000 up from 15,000. Even West Ham getting 55,000 up from 35,000 and Spurs finding 60,000 is too small. Worth remembering that southern clubs have a dual advantage: Population and wealth. BwD has the second lowest average wages in England. Average income in Kensington and Chelsea is about five times higher. North West with 5 Prem and 12 EFL clubs has a population of just over 7 million. Home Counties and London with 6 Prem and 10 EFL clubs has a population of around 20 million. *Counting the promotions from the National League into the numbers of clubs.
  3. Precisely- telling him to up his game or else!
  4. A bit of debate about what constitutes a young player. Of players given squad numbers this season, as at today: 16 are 25 or under 8 are 21 or under. Looking encouraging for the future. Plus the likes of Rankin-Costello for whom many are making the case for being good enough now.
  5. Perhaps Mowbray using a spot of psychology with Raya.
  6. Remember how we all beat ourselves up for not signing Gwion Edwards from Shrewsbury after he ran us ragged playing for Ipswich in the first game of the season? Remember Gwion Edwards? Remember Ipswich? Remember Premier League football? Because if this summer's signings are not good enough to bring iPL football back to Ewood I am not really interested because we already have enough talent at the club including the youngsters to avoid relegation next season.
  7. Salah and Formino out of Champion's League 2nd Leg. Barcelona win a formality.
  8. Glad to see Davenport make an impressive debut after having been out for so long. Pressing, passing, pace and a good shot on him.
  9. Leutweiller has let in two goals during his four match stint which would have been routine stops for Raya and be contrast I don't think he has done anything positive Raya wouldn't have. I doubt we will see the tall Canadian on the bench next season- he doesn't have the ability to get down quickly enough. I hope Raya gets his nose rebuilt and his noddle sorted so he can be in the Championship team of the season 19/20. He has the raw ability to make it. It seems probable we will see a new keeper come in and perhaps one Raya will have to work to displace. Far more important signings are in the defensive positions. Yes Raya has dropped a clanger or two too many but he has been left horribly exposed by what has or has not been happening in front of him. Get a solid defence which communicates well and I think we will see Raya grow.
  10. 20 points above a relegation place 13 points off a play-off slot 29 points off automatic promotion. Not bad for first season back Boro, Bristol City can be expected to strengthen as can Villa and/or Leeds and/or Derby. WBA , Swansea and Stoke have tough second season down financial decisions to make. Relegated Cardiff wiil be tough but perhaps not quite good enough, Huddersfield will need some rebuilding while Fulham under Scott Parker will walk the Championship if their owners keep pouring the cash in. So it won't get any easier but we probably have the most encouraging crop of younger players we have had this decade at the club so I for one am excited by what next year could bring. Get the goals against column down from 69 to under 50 and we will have a very good season in 2019/20.- this squad has goals in it irrespective of whether DG's legs last but that defence needs sorting.
  11. Despite likely to be without Robson-Kanu, got a feeling West Brom will go up through the play-offs. Leeds and Derby will kick each other off the park if the refs aren't strong.
  12. Good pressing for the last 15 minutes. If only we could cross the ball from the right- at least four crosses went horribly wrong. Mowbray gets the 60 points! 16,227 crowd.
  13. Could easily have been 1-4 half time. Again an inexplicable selection.
  14. When Howard Kendall was bidding for back to back promotions, they were one of the three sides which went up- they came second to West Ham. Swansea pipped Rovers on goal difference- no play-offs in those days. Rovers only scored 42 goals but the defence was mean; only 7 conceded at Ewood all season with just one home defeat but only four wins away as well. Chelsea finished 12th in Division 2 that year...
  15. Prospect of Fylde getting into the League following their win away at Flowers' Solihull Moors. Play the winner of Salford and Eastleigh at Wembley. Never seen any Moors in Solihull though... OK a merger with Moor Green gave rise to the name.
  16. I would massively prefer restoring Raya to restoring Hart whom, it has to be acknowledged, proved his fealty to Rovers by making a decent fist of getting the dingles relegated.
  17. Absolutely from the point they bought (earlier if truth is ever exposed) to the appointment of Coyle. Yes the damage is irreparable from taking us from finishing in the top half of the Premier League 80% of the time to where we are today missing out on the exceptional boom in Premier League income. Most fans at the time of greatest damage being done were extraordinarily slow to see what was happening and to respond. So it is re-writing history to say poor old ignored fans. Some of us saw what was happening and frankly we got as much flak from fellow-supporters as we got support from fans. Frankly, "we were ignored" doesn't wash. I hope that we are indeed seeing a change over the last two and a bit seasons and I will say it again, taking the last 30 months in isolation, Venky's are among the better owners in the FL. In business and in life, people learn and improve. Not asking for forgiveness and forgetting for Venky's- their start with Rovers was beyond abysmal- but just as facing reality in 2011/12 meant talking to the Premier League, FA, Qataris, Sports Minister, MPs, journalists etc., facing reality today means recognising that what Messrs Waggott and Mowbray had to say at the Fans Forum/Liaison Meeting was reassuring and encouraging and has been evidenced by solid action and funding.
  18. SEM is not the only problem. Although they are not supposed to, prominent agents in effect work as networks with affiliated smaller agents. One such agent has about 150 ostensibly independent agents tightly inside his network. On the general point, agents cannot be avoided but it comes down to management and ownership as to whether the agents are de facto running the club. On this basis, within the last two years, Rovers have again come to look like a proper football club business. Agents crossing boundaries thrive where there is no effective management to shoo them out of where they don't belong. Being optimistic, Venky's have perhaps learned the very hard and expensive way.
  19. He explained at the forum that it is there to encourage earlier ticket buying so they can plan catering inventory and staff numbers more accurately.
