Really looking forward to this now. Very pleased Rodwell is paired with travis in midfield. Big game for Nyambe. Hope Butterworth and Buckley get game time. Don't care what part of his body it comes off but please Brereton get a goal!
-
Hopefully on the front foot from kick off and score early. Otherwise could be a long old afternoon grind.

Mowbray's biggest balls up has been going going on these long runs. If he had mixed up his wins and losses a bit more, he wouldn't have come in for the mounting flak he has and put posters on both sides of the divide feeling they need to justify positions they have had a few weeks to get stuck into. I am sticking with holding Mowbray to his word of a 60 points total before committing. A target he set just before we off the scale rubbish at home to Stoke...

Not accurate.

Not enough skill and certainly not enough mental toughness in the current squad to be promotion prospects. Given a team selection from a combination of Bowyer's squad and this squad, who would select as many as four from the players Mowbray has available? However, we have more in this current set up than we have produced. Consistency has only been in bad things: -goal gifting (including yesterday) - torrents of goals conceded after 70th minute. (including yesterday) - failure to see games out Oddities seen too often: - do we really have such outrageous talents we can play 3 or more random players outside their best position in every match selection? (Penny seems to have dropped in this regard in the last three games) - were travis and Rothwell really only ready for first team action when they came in through injuries to other players? - is Rodwell never worth trying in the position he won 3 England caps? - Brereton played anywhere except where he is supposed to be any good

Would only change Brereton for Graham and Rodwell for Evans. Rodwell with travis could be the midfield pairing to fire us to promotion next season. Nobody over 22 years of age allowed on the subs bench... Other than football, my stand out memory of Burnden was four young coppers at the back of the open Railway terracing starting the fighting.
-
Could easily lose this. Bolton have a nasty habit of party pooping at Ewood. We need setting up right. Really want to see youngsters given a go so long as they are not anchored around Smallwood and Evans.
-
QPR were on a horrible run until thrashing Swansea 4-0. However, if you look at the Swansea defending and keeping.... our lot have a bit to learn in completely screwing up. Want to see Rodwell and travis paired in central midfield, Williams and Lenihan cenre backs and six players from the under-23 squad on the bench with Leuitweiller.
-
Most- if you simply look at the world as it stands on 18 April 2019.
-
Just hope the season ticket offer is out before the Swansea game and Mowbray doesn't respond by selecting Smallwood with Evans....

You overlooked my use of the word AMONG

Well there is an interesting debate here about whether some of our youngsters are too slight. Malta's national team average a little under 5 ft 9 ins in height. I have seen them against England (average over 6ft 1in) and Spain (average 6ft) and they were not embarrassed for technique. However, when every ball in the air puts you at a very distinct disadvantage, your keeper is just under 6ft which is a midget by modern standards, and in any challenge your opponent has longer legs and a few Kg heavier because he is taller, it makes a difference just as the Icelanders averaging 2 inches per man height advantage had some impact when they beat England.... All other things being equal, you would pick the taller players.
-
Disagree. The only difference between World Cup qualifiers Iceland and 165th ranked Malta is an average height difference of six inches...

The remaining games this season will tell a huge amount. They are all potential defeats as much as they are all winnable, including Norwich given it is the penultimate game. If Mowbray is mentally rigid and has not learnt anything we won't get past 60 points and I will very reluctantly be in the Mowbray out camp.

Not following very closely but cannot see any business logic in Bassini. I have learnt in life that successful people are those who can coolly assess the situation as it exists in the moment now and put past emotions to one side. History is used as a minor source of evidence but if you can make a cold blooded immediate situation analysis of power and resources, behaviours and motivation risks and rewards then you hold the advantage over 99% of the population no matter how bright they are or their status At Rovers far worse things have happened than fans wanted to believe or make the mental and emotional effort to understand and I got huge flak for alluding to it at the time. But. Coldly looking at the facts right now where we are on 16 April 2019, I would submit to equal flak that Venkys are among the best owners in the Football League IN TODAY'S SITUATION.

Champions League 2018-2019

Brilliant game which was one of the best I have seen on TV. Even City could never survive Laporte making three huge errors early on, two of which were punished by goals from son. Thinking of Italy 4 W Germany 3 in the 1970 World Cup level of excitement and enjoyability. Ajax and Barca start as favourites for getting to the final. That defeat might have tipped the odds to Liverpool in the league also. -
Sticking with holding Mowbray to getting to his 60 points total in settling my view on giving him another chance. Frankly there was precious little between the performance at Forest and most of the games in the two horrible runs of losses. Difference was Forest didn't take the chances we gifted them. Stoke was criminally bad from Mowbray.

I don't believe a complete overhaul is needed but if we are serious about promotion real grit is needed in the heart of the defence and both full back positions need sorting- either a sports psychologist getting into the heads of Bell and Nyambe or new blood. Combined with some of the players who have ripped through the u-23 league in the second half of the season getting a chance, I think we may well already have some of the foundations of a promotion winning side at Ewood. Mowbray of course has to pick his strongest side which means no starting place for most of those you mention. Raya would start for me because I would like to see him given a chance behind a defence he could rely on.

Bauer's partner at centre back at Charlton is in the L1 team of the week but not Bauer.

Don't think we have seen Accy, dingles and Rovers all win on the same day before this season. Accy gave themselves a sporting chance of survival with that win over Walsall. Still need to get a draw somehow from one of the last four fixtures and pray that three of the teams beneath them don't all get two wins out of their last four games. Now a lottery between Barnsley, Sunderland and Pompey for 2nd automatic promotion slot. -
Watched the highlights as well as the game live. I usually back Raya but he had a nightmare at Forest. Goal was awful and no idea how Bennett was thought to be og for it. Rothwell Williams Lenihan all immense. Evans was as limited as everyone is commenting. Would like to see Rodwell get a game in the Evans slot if Reed is not fit at the Easter weekend. Nuttall is less than half the player DG is. Brereton doesn't look like a footballer until he gets on the ball. Frustrating...

The mysterious case of Joe Rothwell.
philipl replied to Neal's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Great goal from Joe. Making himself a key part of the team. Hopefully Reed's ankle clears up quickly because that was looking like the start of a promising formation with Rothwell against Derby.
