We are going down (the pessimism thread)
philipl replied to simongarnerisgod's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
The first current form extrapolation I did with 12 games left had Rovers finishing on 45 points in 23rd then extrapolating current form with 8 left took us to 49 points in 20th. We are now on 49 points with 3 to play. Current form over the last 5 games: Swansea, Millwall, Rovers, Plymouth and QPR 1st= with 7 points Birmingham, Stoke and Sheffield Wednesday 6 points Huddersfield 5 points Watford 4 points has left them just about safe at 52 points Games involving teams at the bottom still to come are next weekend: Rovers v Wednesday - anything better than a defeat seals Rovers finishing above Wednesday Stoke v Plymouth Swansea v Huddersfield Penultimate weekend: Millwall v Plymouth Huddersfield v Birmingham - relegation decider (Brum play Norwich and Huddersfield go to Ipswich on the last day)? Last day: Swansea v Millwall At this stage, the games of struggler v struggler mean one if not both will drop points in trying to get to 50 points which with only 3 games left is the realistic target to move ahead of Rovers. -
The u-21s are on a storming run- up to 12th with three winnable looking fixtures to come meaning play-offs and European football beckon. Injuries clearing up throughout the squad are obviously helping.

The pass setting up Szmodics was superb.

John Eustace - our head coach
philipl replied to chaddyrovers's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Still giving Eustace the benefit of the doubt but the doubts are a bit less. That performance at Leeds needed the players to perform supremely professionally after the collection of horror errors at Bristol but it also needed excellent coaching. The travel time and psychological support needed post Bristol would have meant the coaching time would have been very limited. So that organisation came from work done before this week. It is also clear Eustace has a plan B with both a fully functioning 4 at the back and 3/5 at the back. -

We pull off one of the most significant, unexpected, deserved and probably memorable wins for a few seasons and I come on here to read whingers whingeing. What I was going to post. That performance was as close to flawless as Bristol City was flawed. We got the gift wrapped cock-ups (all 8 of them at Ashton Gate- they only scored from 5) out of our system and were magnificent at the back. Discipline, organisation, heading, blocking, tackling all sensational. Defending brilliantly from the front so Leeds were never comfortable anywhere on the pitch. At Ashton Gate, Gally didn't win anything whereas at Eland Road he dominated their defenders winning every headed ball which was there to be headed. The one bugbear was our repeated failures to find the right ball when in their half but by the law of averages it was going to come together at some point and it did so gloriously with as good a four touches from keeper to goal move as anyone will be producing this season. Dolan's pass was utterly sublime and the more I see it the better it gets. Yes we shouldn't ever have got into these desperate straits but that win was essential given the other results at the bottom. Sheffield Wednesday is a MUST NOT LOSE so I would keep the back 3. Avoid defeat and the survival job will be almost done. Win and it will be done. -

Five horror shows and this the worst. Huddersfield, Birmingham, Cardiff, Swansea and now this. Hyam should be taking home the match ball for his mistakes.... -

I hadn't been expecting us to self -destruct like this. -

Wells who always scores against us is out for City as is the dangerous Mehmeti. Conway starts and the young Scot can be a handful. -
I am sticking with Rovers staying up. Beyond that I don't care who is in 22nd and 23rd when the music stops.

Unfortunately, he wasn't allowed to run it though. If he had, we wouyld have had Warnock and not Coyle. -
Hardly any club were giving any players new contracts in that COVID season. Other clubs have been hit harder by player walk aways at contract end than us. Plus we effectively picked up the likes of Hedges and Tronstad at or close to the end of their contracts.

The one season is building Luton a new stadium. As it is, unlike the Dingles, Luton are fighting for survival.

Home. I have seen us win at Coventry as well as that 5-0 humiliation. Remember that chocolate strip they wore when we knocked them out of the FA Cup at Ewood?

Hopefully this is for Bristol City consumption. It basically says we could play anyone anywhere in any formation. -

A Kevin Stonehouse goal won the game 1-0 for us but Preston had folded. Thankfully Preston only folded in the first half and hit 4 in the second against Huddersfield last night -

Key is not letting Bristol City get momentum. Conway and Memehti are both very skilful and dangerous opponents. -
Irrespective of the accounts being dated 19 December, they were issued this week. My recollection is that any materially adverse occurrence should be reported on as at the date of filing with Companies House. So the situation hasn't got any worse but the late filing would indicate the Directors were hanging on in the hope that the going concern wording could be improved (perhaps it has been from what it would have been without the Wharton sale).

Shh Tyjon..

Sounds like he picked up a potentially bad injury in training last Friday. Out for at least two weeks. A shame because he looked like he could become a player for us but the chances are he is going back to Brighton and we will see no more of him.

Rovers already have one point more than my simple extrapolation had them achieving at season's end the first time I did it!

Rovers Rumours & Speculation
philipl replied to Herbie6590's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
I believe 15% of any profit above what they initially eventually pay. So 15% on anything above 23.5m. My estimate is going off Broughton interview and our Fair Play headroom. 10m is roughly a third of the Wharton and Raya contributions so 20m disappears... -

Just looked at the remaining fixtures of the other 8 at risk clubs. Plymouth appear very vulnerable but my main take was while I expect 22nd to get to 49 points, there are too many relegation head to heads for a relegated club to get above 49 points unless the bottom starts a bloodbath regularly beatng the promotion and playoff seekers. A long way of saying we have to get a point from this one. A defeat turns the Wednesday game from must not lose to must win unless we somehow win at Leeds. A win at Ashton Gate will be very close to securing Championship status because our goal difference is looking ok to keep us up if it comes down to that with just 4 to go . So every reason for seeking a win so long as we lock out at the back. -
So low a bar? My hunch is this season will see 22nd get the second highest points total to the 51 which is the record under 3 points for a win which sent us down. I think we need 5 points or a point per game to get to 51 as a minimum. Incidentally, the unluckiest team relegated were Blackpool in the days of 42 games and 2 points for a win. They went down with 37 when we came 5th with 45 points!
