  1. Just edited it to get rid of the first few paragraphs of point scoring against other posters. I agree- all four points are worthy of taking forwards although quite how you would handle policing the illegal and not so damaging to Rovers coverage of away games compared with the illegal and very damaging to Rovers home games in pubs is an interesting one.
  2. So what's all this got to do with Rovers v Man City??? Great to see Rovers up and running again. Obviously concerns about central defence and midfield but it sounds like Mokoena did a great job on Barton which turned the game. Nonda seems a very promising signing with his speed and direct running whilst Benny grabbed his third of the season in six games. Hope he keeps that ratio up! And well done Gally. Not forgetting two goals coming from free kicks- Rovers' work on the training pitch coming good again.
  3. Any result from the West Ham v Newcastle game puts 9th out of reach and we need Spuds , Arsenal and Liverpool not to win to keep 10th in reach. I think we will have to resolve ourselves to being in 11th IF we get the win- cannot see Spuds not getting a win against Fulham at home.
  4. Paul, there is an incredibly popular Rovers supporter from Lancaster by the understandable nickname of Bomber who did brilliantly in the Fans' hit the crossbar competition at half time at Pompey last season triggering all the Rovers fans humming Dambuster in his honour. So that one has an entirely innocent origin/alibi. On the other hand, compared with previous trips to Europe (particularly Ankara) from which Rovers fans came back having had a wonderful time without upsetting the locals, it appears that 20 or so lowest of the low made the Salzburg trip and upset the rest of the Rovers supporters and the good folks of Salzburg in equal measure. If we do go through and get two more guarranteed away trips, I wonder who will be the first to drop off from following the Rovers in Europe as the novelty wears off: - the ignorant Nazi neanderthals; - or the decent majority of Rovers fans who have the time of their lives following the club?
  5. I hope the club has had the presence of mind to go onto the offensive on this one - writing to Souness to seek his views, the Express for any assistance and talking to Stevens about engaging him to look into this Dunn transfer, the Perez transfer and any other now questionable transactions at the behest of the Rovers board.
  6. The Express seem to be having a bit of a downer on rovers- that's the second lump of dirt coming at Ewood from their direction. Will be interesting to find out what the club will do if it transpires Souness deliberately contrived to force Dunn out to take a dodgy transfer deal. Then there are the large payments to Rangers for Ferguson, Man U for Cole and Ternana for Grabbi... Quite a few million there. Not forgetting the Amo purchase. http://football.guardian.co.uk/Columnists/...1873952,00.html The Guardian taking a sanguine view of the forthcoming Panorama programme.
  7. The best bit is watching Trap throw a wobbler over a Rovers goal- fantastic sight after years and years of watching him doing the same in Italy.
  8. Been reading the papers and it seems that: - Rovers weren't dirty - Apart from the resumption from the power cut and the last 5 minutes, Rovers were comfortable - we left a 6 ft 5 ins striker unmarked for their equaliser; obviously whichever Australian whose post was unattended had popped off to get his step ladder - Tugay was a class apart again but Ooijer and Savage had good games which should calm a few folks down - we had at least 4 good goal scoring chances in the second half which has calmed my worries about us not creating chances; now I can worry about us taking them. Considering that Salzburg are going so well domestically and have a number of "name" players and awesome management, perhaps there are reasons for optimism not just for the home leg but for a bit of a UEFA adventure afterwards. 2-2 sets up a good game at Ewood. Salzburg will have to attack to get the lead they need which should open things up nicely for the Rovers.
  9. So no more watching North Korea v Tajikistan care of Shanghai Sports via TV Ants. That will teach us for dreaming anybody anywhere amongst the 6 billion people in this world would think Rovers would be worth watching. Not in Lancashire Manchester London New York Hollywood Salzburg Eurovision The whole of China anywhere else in the Far East who put thelights out for 7 minutes anywhere Dr Who or Ford Prefect have been just nobody wants to watch Rovers We're just a small town in Europe
  10. It was the 61/2 season where all the Lancashire United clubs crowded Div 1. PNE dropped out never to be seen again then Notlob. Then Rovers celebrated the World Cup win in style. Bumley and Blackpool went down the same season Rovers and Wanderers went down (70/1- not a good year to be a B in Lancashire except Bury got promoted) and apart from a brief Bumley return and a Worthington inspired Notlob was good night until Uncle Jack followed Oldham into the promised land.
  11. With a bit of luck, Rovers wil be so frustrated and mad about tonight's 91st minute give away, they'll rip Citeh on Sunday.
  12. We're in the whatsit if they get a lead at Ewood but we can look forwards to TV coverage if we get thru' as the pinks sorted out the Whammers tonight. Might pop across for the second leg to see Palermo finish the chirpy cockneys off. Nice to neighbourly.
  13. Woohoo- going to win my 0-0 bet as my Chinese mate has fused the stadium.
  14. Oh dear den, too quick on the draw for me- missed them!
  15. Looks like Kevin Bond is being fingered by the Panorama programme. Apart from being son of John of blessed memory, Bond junior was deputy to 'Arry and is now deputy at Newcastle. Perfect CV. The Guardian also runs a piece about the likely West Ham takeover not concluding anything much otther than the Russian/Georgian/Iranian chaps are secretive and seem to know a certain Israeli agent rather well. In terms of the future of the game there are two significany pointers: - West Ham are of course close to the 2012 Olympics site which is having difficulties making the sums work and a soon to be brand spanking new 80,000 seater stadium. Perhaps Berezovsky will show his gratitude for a British passport by funding West Ham to fund the stadium on cash that in part came through Brasil??? - Spuds are seriously looking at taking advantage of the unholy mess involving Multiplex and the FA by buying Wembley.
  16. All of our strikers can- thankfully we don't play Barnsley.
  17. If PSV v Liverpool was the game offered up to the British public you were terribly short changed. I was able to watch the Barca and Bayern games and they were both cracking entertainment. Barca were everything Chelsea are not at the moment- fluid, incisive, brilliant whilst Bayern cramked up the luckiest 4-0 win I'll ever see. How the Russians didn't get their noses in front in the first 50 minutes, only Oliver Kahn and the Gods will know. Even after Bayern had started scoring, Moscow still kept creating fantastic chances. From what I have read, Benitez indulged in a massively cynical selection which produced a massively cynical result. Hopefully there are more Evertons than PSVs lurking out there when it comes to playing Liverpool. Tonight's CL games have also set off with a rush of goals. Clearly with the massive increase in TV exposure, fans are demanding far more high quality performances and entertainment. The desperate need to preserve status for financial survival unfortunately is producing more desperately negative and cynical football which is another self-destroying cycle afflicting our game.
  18. ...and of course Boumsong went to Juventus so there is nothing dodgy about that.
  19. 0-0 is probably the best we can hope for- my prediction.
  20. Given the bizarre way that Perez left Rovers, I always felt uncomfortable about that one. I hope Rovers were the innocent party- we certainly lost an outstanding player. The fact that Marseille were involved in all the deals names by the Express might not be a coincidence. The Guardian names the agents in the Newcastle VAT case. It also explains how and why agents get paid by the clubs in transfer deals. They certainly screw the selling club but they also screw the player the agent is supposed to represent. I find it astonishing that the article asserts players are unaware that the agents are working for the clubs this way. I wonder if Newcastle have any VAT to reclaim on the Duff transfer?
  21. Baz, that is cruel posting that here. The Windy Miller blast over the top looks even worse now. And as for that penalty....
  22. Banned for 8 matches and a further 15 match ban suspended for two years. I wonder if the second ban will get triggered if the Ralph Welch incident gets proved to be deliberate? City are appealing Dabo's red card at Reading- I don't know if the ban would start after their game against us anyway. Anyone see that red card incident?
  23. The start of three games we have to win against clubs who will be looking at us as decent three point opportunities- that's the price of making a poor start. Thankfully, this Citeh side is pretty poor and will be missing some of its competitive umph following disciplinary problems. Rovers 2 Citeh 0 Hopefully a repeat of last season's routine end of season match.
  24. Agreed Gav- I still feel that numb nauseous pit-of-the stomach gut- renching utterly helpless frustrating overwhelming misery and sense of desolate dejection whenever I hear "Glad all over". Courtney was an utter **** that day- no way was that ever a penalty. Mind you quite how Howard Gale managed to hit the corner flag with his penalty when we should have gone 3-0 up at Ewood is another matter. I've also detested Joe Lovejoy for the last 16 years for his preview of that game at Selhurst Park. Apart from that, yes it was fun winning the Premiership, the Worthington Cup and six forays into Europe.
