Come on.
-
Hull City let goals in but score at the other end. Being without Estupian and Connolly hopefully will blunt them a little.

Kompany has used loans brilliantly. Got the maximum number and they all worked out. Big challenge this summer what to do next on those 5.

Pears/ Kaminski.. summer plans?
philipl replied to NeilInBristol's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
I suspect Pears' better distribution is swaying the decision. It is also sending a message that when you get a first team chance, you get a proper chance. Really important when there are so many Academy hopefuls they don't make their debut as a bundle of nerves thinking the 15 minutes off the bench is the only opportunity they might ever get. Must be hugely frustrating for TK though and I suspect he might move on in the summer with mutual thanks and appreciation. -
Play-offs - Can we do it? (POLL)
philipl replied to TheRevAshton's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
After Hull which is massive and has the advantage of knowing every other result in the Championship, the chips really go onto the table. JDT faces a management challenge I struggle to think of any equivalent. To go up, Rovers have to prevail in 8 BACK TO BACK GAMES AGAINST PROMOTION RIVALS. Yes a monster for the players but will JDT face such a management task in his career before or ever again? He is going to be tested. Good luck Jon Dahl, we are all counting on you! -
Extremely bad practise but only happened after years of not finding a buyer acceptable to the Trust under the terms the Trustees had to work to and after that individual had all but forced himself on them. Similarly now, the Venkys have their own internal rules of decision making and standards by which they would consider a potential offer for the club. We might not agree the standards these two owners set (and reputedly Jack set some barriers for the Trustees which today most would regard as problematic) but that is the privilege of owners. Big but Those standards have protected Rovers from fates far worse than Venkys and I would argue with now considerable conviction that nobody would have issue with 3 of the 4 decision makers who make decisions by unanimity in the Venkys ownership. However The advisers to the Venkys which Venkys decided to be advised by included some of the worst people imaginable. I was as passionately against what was happening in the period 2010 to 2017 as anyone on this chat board and unlike many put time and effort into trying to do something about it. I have learnt in life that the best thing is to learn, not to carry grudges, not to live in a what might have been world and to try to evaluate the situation as it is in the real world today. That is why I am asking everyone to look at the situation today and as it has been since the appointment of Tony Mowbray some six years ago. Not perfect but I would take Rovers' current ownership situation over that of 90% of the othe 91 clubs in the PL/EFL.

The FFP ceiling argument is supported by the fact we had 6 months under a transfer ban just before Waggott was appointed. And I think we all appreciate the prioritisation of allocation of non-FFP counting funds to the Cat A Academy.

If your decisions on buying a club wrecked it and you have been let down time and again by advisors who were supposedly acting for you but lining their own pockets And there are no decent buyers What is the decent thing to do? Ensure the Academy is funded Appointment of decent experienced management within budget who can manage to budget (which is enforced by FFP) Finance the club to the maximum allowed by FFP Keep out of the way and let management do their job. What have Venkys done since the Coyle debacle? All of the above.

It is 30 years since I ceased being a Chartered Accountant (voluntarily) so I would like someone to explain how an Indian business would launder its debts in England.

Luton have been building a new stadium since before Eric Morecambe was a director there. They have abandoned the idea of moving to Dunstable and are now going to pitch up (ha ha) near the railway station with a 17,500 seater with minimal ends allowing for it to be increased to 23,000 in the future. Seems to be financially linked to a hotel and retail park development by the M1 which might not get OK'd because it is green field.

Don't lose sight of the fact Hull have become dangerous opponents. They typically play 4-2-3-1 but have switched to 4-4-2 in the last 4 away games in which they have won 1 and drawn 3. So I sort of expect JDT to stick with the 4-3-3 that (mostly) worked at Huddersfield with perhaps Gally and Thomas back as the only changes.

William Bancroft was a football chairman of a by gone era and that is not to belittle but to laud his achievements. The time when local people without deep pockets gave their all for their local league football club and had a realistic opportunity of promotion to the highest level. Our Chairman at a time when the club's very existence was precarious and suffering some of its lowest moments in history, he skillfully steered the club to safety and appointed a string of exceptional managers. Got to remember he too suffered the chants of sack the board and worse. rip a fine man

Remaining fixtures - Predictions

I am not advocating a draw against Hull, I am just pointing out that because of the Millwall v Preston game this weekend, Rovers would still have a play-off place in our own hands. -

Advantages of the Rovers run in against teams with at least half an eye on promotion, provided we do no worse than draw against Hull, our fate is in our own hands and if we make the play-offs, we will be well acclimatised to playing rivals. -

Only Rovers have Hull and Burnley in the fixtures to play. Millwall having quite a say on Lancastrian futures.. At this stage of the season it is impossible to call games hard or easy. -
JRC previous contract took time also.

Gally looked gutted when the camera panned to him on the bench. Agreed Harry looks more of a natural striker based on those few minutes than either Gally or Vale. It also looked to me watching through the cameras that Colin had told his defenders to give Harry a "welcome" to the Championship and Harry brushed off the intimidation.

We are out of games we can afford not to win. This has to be 3 points in the bag. Hull have improved a lot so it won't be a stroll in the park.
-
I was referring to how the results went today for us in the Championship. Commented about the Huddersfield game on the Huddersfield thread and yes we should have run out easy winners but for Huddersfield hitting the jackpot twice with their only first half attempts of note.
-
We got very fortunate again today. Just about the only club with an inferior goal difference drew level with us. And Bolton dropped two pints to a last minute equaliser...

v Huddersfield (a) 10/4/23 @ 12.30pm
philipl replied to Sweaty Gussets's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Fabulous game, great come back. Unfortunately, I would swap the entertainment for the 3 points... A team to be proud of and Pears getting unfair flak for their two goals- the first in particular was a great reaction to Morton getting a boot on the ball just in front of him. Just the 82% possession, 22 chances and 11 on target.. -
Millwall Norwich Coventry and PNE all look to be good for 3 points today so we could find ourselves in 9th this evening.
-
Bolton far from assured of a League 1 play off place. Are you sure about this?
