  1. Yeah, because it happened forty to fifty years ago doesn't excuse it right now though Parson. Back then we genuinely didn't have the proverbial pot to **** in. These days we have incredibly rich owners, who, latterly at least, won't spend any money despite flogging off nearly all the family silver. Happy New Year to you and all the best.
  2. 1st part, those three cost over £5m the last time a relatively decent chunk of money was made available so not really a fair comparison. 2nd part - of course they are. Not even close. Note you've also conveniently omitted Ohashi for next to nothing out of the equation.
  3. His reward will probably be being dropped for the Leeds game and maybe the Dingles.
  4. Beck got skinned a couple of times. I also saw us getting over-run in midfield 2nd half though. Maybe if we'd prevented the ball from getting to Roberts in the first place?
  5. Yes, according to the Club's version of events the Court proceedings have no effect on the day to day running of the Club and of course we've made all those sales previously. According to the FF minutes Waggott requested money from the owners for January and Eustace has subsequently said in an LT interview there is some money to spend. What could possibly go wrong? (I'm being facetious before everyone piles in)
  6. Probably. What we need is another Adam Armstrong on loan.
  7. That would necessitate decent money being spent!
  8. Wasn't it rumoured that we got Ohashi for around £250k due to some sort of clause in his contract? On the basis we've probably only paid around £1.25m initially for Gueye and Ohashi I wouldn't say they're the worst signings in the world. Then you've got Batth and Beck who were fairly inspired captures. Don't think anyone thought Cantwell was a bad idea when he signed either. Poles apart from previous dross like Telalovic/Ennis/Hirst/Wahlstedt
  9. Not missing the point at all. You're completely speculating to suit your argument by claiming that Gestede picked the players who haven't done so well and the others picked the ones who have. If there is indeed "a Committee" (I'm reminded of Colin Crompton's Wheeltappers and Shunters Social Club for older readers) there's no reason to suggest the recruitment in January will be any worse than in summer all things being equal. Unless of course any successes were entirely down to Park - which I admit wouldn't be the biggest stretch in the world.
  10. I don't think we do. Travis is the key miss.
  11. Ohashi and Gueye or Ennis/Telalovic/Hirst? What about Beck and Batth? Theoretically Cantwell looked a great signing at the time as well.
  12. I got criticised on here yesterday for saying my minimum expectation before every home game was a win. Obviously I know we're not going to win every home game in practice and expectations are further tempered by injuries or loss of form at any given time. In my case it's more a case of refusing to accept that anything other than a win at home is a good result rather than actually expecting us to win every time. It does get a bit tedious reading certain posters predicting we're going to win every week though regardless of the opposition and form. It's as if they think it makes them a better fan than everyone else and really renders posting the prediction pointless.
  13. OK fair enough, it's looking like you may be right in that respect. I might have been mistaken in wrongly assuming Cantwell is a lot better than he actually is. When I watch him though I don't see a player lacking in ability, more a player who rarely gets out of first or second gear.
  14. I'm afraid you're going to be sorely disappointed.
  15. He doesn't, Travis does as we've seen in the last couple of games.
  16. I don't agree really. That's just exonerating poor performances from Cantwell. If he WAS creating chance after chance and there was no-one there to convert them, then it wouldnt be ideal but at least we'd be half way there. We haven't even got that from him. Anyone could look good with a stellar cast around them.
  17. I don't think we'll get absolutely battered score wise but we haven't got a szmodics to nick one on the break either. 2-0 Leeds.
  18. The rumours are that Cantwell will be on a much higher wage than Sigurdsson and indeed the rest of the squad though so to be honest I don't think we can afford to carry him whether or not the fee for him appeared relatively cheap. He was meant to be our talisman not a passenger.
  19. Agree with the general sentiment but in devil's advocate mode ACD and Leonard have barely featured and pro rata Weimann's output hasn't been bad for a squad player. We need to add more firepower to the squad somehow though. You can't rely on keeping a clean sheet every game.
  20. As you rightly say that he needs to bring more to the team, is he really "a class act" or is he a bit like Buckley in terms of having bags of natural talent but rarely ever making the most of it? I really really want him to do well and blow our socks off but to date I'm far from convinced. Adam Wharton is a "class act" who often looks a cut above more experienced and even elite opposition. This fella, I'm not so sure.
  21. I think we all knew deep down it was going to end sooner rather than later but it's still bitterly disappointing to turn in such a poor performance and result (at home) regardless of whether you've overperformed previously.
  22. First part is factual. 2nd part is an opinion, may turn out to be correct, may not. If he'd said it at the same stage in any of the last 3 seasons he'd have been proved to be correct. In the circumstances therefore you are quite right to question whether it is actually an over-reaction unlike your bold assertion originally.
  23. Was that rude? If so I apologise.
