  1. Do you think he was good last season when we nearly went down?
  2. Well argued post. I'm not sure what everyone's obsession with my opinion on Tronstad is tbh. I've always acknowledged that whilst I don't really rate him everyone else does. Who could we replace Dolan with out of the existing squad and "not feel the hit"?
  3. OK I'll grant you he was slightly better than Ennis, Telalovic, Brown, Reg Varney, Watt and Jackson. He's no where near as good as Leon Best prior to his injury. Hirst was terrible here but has done more since he left the Club than Gallagher ever has. Watt, Goodwillie and Samuel I couldn't really differentiate him from. It's not really fair to compare him to Vale who's a youngster who never got a run in the first team. Add Paul Mckinnon to the first list and you've just about covered it. I'd also put Grabbi in there - we were really scammed on that one. Which still makes Gallagher "one of" the worst strikers ever to pull the shirt on imo though. I know we'll never agree on it.
  4. Let's hope he's better than O Riordan.
  5. I was a massive fan of Nyambe but I didn't think he was that quick. Wasn't George Donis meant to be exceptionally quick when we signed him? Then when he got here I didn't notice that at all.
  6. Good riposte. Don't really understand what enjoyment you derive out of a two way bun fight at best which in recent years has been exceptionally one sided though. Guess you'd have to be a fan of either Club to get it.
  7. Always been "The Riverside" to me and always will be, no disrespect whatsoever intended to Jack or irrespective of whether a new stand is ever built.
  8. Yes. Shearer before his first injury as well. Bellamy? Overall though Id say the exception rather than the rule and that's going back over 50 years. We've never had much pace throughout the side that I can recall.
  9. I wouldn't hold your breath chaddy.
  10. Neither are absolutely top drawer obviously or they wouldn't be playing here at the moment. The Tronstad we saw against Sunderland reflects my general view of him - him and Travis have looked a very good pairing this season but it's no coincidence we struggled last season and against Sunderland without Travis imo. Dolan blows a bit hot and cold but overall he works incredibly hard and I think he's quite decent. More goals and goal involvements than Cantwell who everyone seems to think is great. Why is there never any outside interest in Tronstad if he's as good as everyone thinks?
  11. So does that mean you think he'll still be here next season then chaddy?
  12. I can't remember a time when we've ever had much pace in the side. Lack of genuine pace seems to be a Club trademark.
  13. What's your initial view on Gallagher Potterlog? My friend roversfan99 will always defend him to the hilt and he had a moderately successful initial loan period here in a season which saw us relegated but since returning on a permanent basis for a vastly inflated £5m fee I genuinely think he's been one of the worst strikers I've ever seen pull on the blue and white halves in 53 years of watching the Club. I'm old fashioned and judge a striker primarily on goals scored. For me a top striker should be willing to kill his gran to get on the score sheet. Gallagher in his 2nd spell looked like he never considered scoring goals as part of his job description and could never be bothered getting into positions from which he was likely to score. Neither for such a huge physical unit did he impose himself on the opposition and for someone 6ft 5in jumped 5 ft 7. Second touch was a tackle. Apart from that he was OK as George Best famously said about Beckham. (You're probably going to tell me you love him now!) Lol.
  14. Thanks for the reply. I must admit after I posted I checked Walters' career stats and didn't realise he'd played so many games for you. What I meant was, he's not a former playing superstar in the Rooney/Lampard type bracket which makes it sort of understandable why they keep getting gigs irrespective of managerial ability. Ironically we're probably in the same sort of boat as we've drafted in a former player ourselves (Rudy Gestede) as DOF who as far as I'm aware doesn't seem to have any formal qualifications apart from shadowing our very unpopular CEO Steve Waggott around for a period. The decision was met with derision by most of our fan base but I actually thought our recruitment in the summer on an extremely frayed shoestring was infinitely better than under the previous recruitment regime. However that might have been down to the previous old school Chief Scout/Head of Recruitment John Park who has since left due to an apparent disagreement over the reliance on data led Recruitment going forward. I guess we'll find out (probably to our cost) in January.
  15. I actually rate him as one of our better players. He'll be on a relative pittance currently and as with all our better players in recent times we won't be offering him enough to entice him to re-sign. If he does leave as seems likely you can bet your bottom dollar the replacement won't be as good. But at least "Hedgy" will no doubt re-sign and do the square root of naff all for a further two years so happy days.
  16. Wasn't wrongly chalked off. The ball deflected off the defender therefore it doesn't count. Stupid rule. I agree on Dolan though he was sensational first half.
  17. That's very weird. You could understand it maybe if he was a former superstar as a player and carried some gravitas within the game due to that, but he's never really done anything of note. He's a bit of a laughing stock here as well due to the circumstances under which he was sacked from our Club before his career had ever really got off the ground.
  18. 3 last season. If someone is constantly injured then they're no use. You might as well sign me at age 61. Whether he might actually have scored many more if available more often is also a fairly moot point - he didn't score in his last 14 games or so for the Club I don't think. Whist Gueye is far from the greatest player I'd summarise it by saying he doesn't score enough but is a handful for the opposition. Gallagher didn't score enough and wasn't a nuisance for the opposition. As a side issue, Gallagher also cost £5m and was on £15/£16k p.w. Gueye cost around £1m and will be on a much lower wage. Small steps but ones in the right direction.
  19. I'd swap Hedges for ACD and attempt to get at least two goals clear by the hour mark at which point changes could be made if any of them are suffering from fatigue due to the schedule.
  20. That's exactly how I'd like him to be. He has the talent to be far more influential imo. He ought to be dictating games. The table posted above is fairly telling - pro rata he's behind the likes of JRC and Weimann (who have played far fewer minutes) and the much maligned Dolan.
  21. Hedges, 2 goal involvements in 1363 minutes of play and some people think he should still get a new deal.
  22. I wouldn't really say he's made "a good start" he doesnt score enough, but he's got a bit of potential, at his best he's a real nuisance for the opposition defence. I'd contrast that with Gallagher who similarly didn't score enough and wasn't a nuisance either.
  23. Cantwell didn't just fade during the last ten minutes (which would be understandable) though did he? Might as well leave it there as we obviously won't agree on this.
  24. Not sure why you are being sarcastic or condoning his fairly obvious lack of fitness.
