  1. And still no sign of Cantwell. What do we reckon 2/1 The "send" button jammed again 3/1 He got a better offer 4/1 Waggott changed the goalposts 8/1 The owners got cold feet 16/1 The Football League wanted to know what would happen if we went down, up and down again 33/1 We spelt his name on the paperwork wrong again. A rather unfortunate use of another vowel instead of the letter "a". 66/1 Gregg Broughton has been rehired on a short term contract to finalise the deal 80/1 Bar.
  2. Agreed. Its the sort of window imo where we wont know whether its a good or bad window until the season has unfolded a bit but on the face of it the recruitment team who have obviously been operating under fairly severe financial restrictions have done remarkably well in the circumstances. Night and day from when Broughton was here and I'd also say potentially the best since pre Mowbray as for the first time there seems to have been a real effort to loan young players out who need game time or offload others who aren't part of the plans instead of just piling players up on top of other players and have them earning money for sitting there doing nothing.
  3. Firstly calm down "mate". I was expressing a general opinion not directed at anyone in particular or your goodself. Your opinion is also just that -an opinion. Nowhere as far as I'm aware is it written in stone that you need at least 4 "control" midfielders (whatever T F one of those is) Secondly the post I was replying to listed 13 midfielders, wide players or wingers competing for four or five places assuming everyone signs. If you don't think that's excessive then I can't help you. If everyone signs ideally imo we need to lose another couple out of that area and bring in a CH and out and out striker. Won't happen now probably as it's too late but still.
  4. Why do people quote absolute shite off the Internet as evidence a signing has been confirmed? Or claim a signing has gone through when it hasnt in an attempt to look ITK. Been lots of those sort of posts as well It's almost as annoying as the signing itself not going through
  5. Keeper area could still be very weak. Could have done with one really good younger CB rather than 2 old duffers imo If Cantwell signs we'll be way overstocked in the midfield positions. For me Hedges needs firing off and Buckley needs selling or loaning out if he's not going to get any game time. We are exceptionally light in the striking positions imo unless Leonard or Tyjon do something fairly unexpected.
  6. Plus ca change..... Bits and pieces and kids on loan going through, the one deal that entails a relatively hefty financial outlay ( certainly in terms of wages if not the fee) it appears not.
  7. Even better would we if we could sign our own players.
  8. If Carlsberg did transfer windows - confirmation Cantwell has put pen to paper, Stansfield, two pacey wingers, the RB from Newcastle and a younger CH on loan.
  9. I think you'll be waiting a long time for that. I'll get me coat..........
  10. Don't talk nonsense. If that were the case, why don't England managers pick the keeper whose team are top of League 2 and whose stats are probably off the charts then? Despite your seemingly rather strange efforts to convince everyone what a great window this is (seems the same thing from you every window) this lad is a huge gamble. Very odd after getting our fingers burnt with Wahlstedt. Might turn out great though, who knows?
  11. Those are my feelings as well jim. I am feeling exceptionally underwhelmed after what seemed a very bright start to the window a few weeks ago. I feel a lot will hinge on the signing or otherwise of Cantwell. He seems to be the marquee signing of the window and right now I'm expecting it to go the same way as our other high value deals of recent windows. IF however he signs and can chip in with double figures that will take a lot of pressure off the unproven strikers and the signing will raise morale. IF we can also sign a couple of decent pacey wide men and maybe a RB and if both full backs are better than the present incumbents and if the keeper is better than Pears it will have been a pretty good window in theory. If nothing were to happen from here though I'd call that a very disappointing window other than shifting Gallagher. £40m plus in sales and nil net spend.
  12. Don't hold your breath by which I mean don't be relying on him to save your season if you start badly. You're probably better off without.
  13. Yet again, we're a bloody sight quicker at agreeing outgoing deals than incoming ones.
  14. We were meant to have been at that stage 24 hours ago weren't we? An analogy I've used before, but this one is starting to sound like Alan Partridge waiting for Roger Moore to turn up in the studio. Of course it never happened.
  15. Would the other Japanese striker alongside Gueye have been suitable?
  16. Baker on loan has been confirmed hasn't it? Not that I'm particularly enthused about that one.
  17. It'll be really disappointing but hardly surprising if Cantwell has fallen through and Baker is the replacement. Would hope Beck is better than Pickering otherwise what's the point. The keeper does seem like a panic last minute buy because either there's no-one else still available or we've decided we don't want to pay the going rate for a decent one. For all the names floated about and £41m in sales we've only actually brought in a couple of loans so far. Hope things improve before the end of the window.
  18. Wow! "Stole a wage?" You never saw Gallagher "in action" for 5 years then? I think you'd better ask them to turn your seat in Corporate round to face the pitch for this season!
