  1. That's some softening of stance Glen, are you certain you didn't partake of the hallucogenic bourbon creams? We'll have to put them to the ultimate test next, try them out on Gav and if they work on him maybe we can send a crateload over to Putin and stop the war! In all seriousness through I also have to compliment you in asking a series of pertinent and searching questions and thank you for recounting what was said with such terrific recall. Fascinating reading. I'm not privy to the fine detail of discussions with some of the other fan groups but I am aware that like yourself most seem to come out with nothing but good words about Steve Waggott on a personal level in terms of how attentive and accommodating he is and also seemingly considerably more confident about the future of the Club than before they went in. Would you say from what you have heard so far you've had enough encouragement to maybe work in tandem with other fans groups to try and help steer the Club in the right direction?
  2. I know many do not accept this, but I am of the firm belief that one off funding was made available and was already in place in January and not used! It does seem from what has emerged today we bid £1.5m for Styles in January.. According to the Peterbrough Chairman we also bid for the player who went to Bournemouth (Dembele was it?) so that's £3m right there and we also spent 800 k and brought in a couple of loanees. Nowhere near what I believe was available but indicative of some funding being available nonetheless.
  3. Not if we get in first with them both! BBD might be available if they want to shell out £50m of it though.
  4. Wow, that's weird. Noel was very young and "Tom Thumb" must only have been early 50's? Both right wingers as well.
  5. Aye all right. You clearly didn't have a clue who Johnny Price was when you replied to CLB' s tongue in cheek post about "Price" being a winger. Understandably so unless you're getting on a bit like me.
  6. Bit harsh probably. Whilst I agree there's still much MUCH more to do in terms of recruitment I'd say this lad theoretically looks in a different bracket to the calibre of player we've brought in over the last couple of seasons. (Pickering, Edun, Hedges etc) Let's hope it pans out that way and let's hope there's at least several more to follow.
  7. A case of a little knowledge being a dangerous thing. Way before Chris Price's time when dinosaurs still roamed the earth we had a diminutive right winger Johnny Price 71-73 time. 5 ft 2 inches and signed from Stockport County I think he was. Despite his size he was a good un as well at old Division 3 (League 1) level. One of my favourite players growing up.
  8. Optimism seems to be reaching dangerous levels on the back of just one signing today. Probably safest to approach it from the view that we're now "only" two or three key first teamers and five loanees down from last season and chalk them off one by one as further bodies arrive. Once they've all or nearly all been chalked off then we can start to feel optimistic imo.
  9. On JPVH, I've been told he would love to come here permanently, however he only has 12 months left on his deal at Brighton and as things stand they want a massive fee for him which of course is their prerogative. As it is our prerogative to ask for a massive fee for BB. Whether or not they'll get it of course remains to be seen so whilst I'd say it's unlikely to happen at the moment it might not be completely out of the question some way down the line. Suppose it depends on whether or not he breaks into their first team.
  10. To me it's looking increasingly likely that he'll be staying this season. Venky's don't need the money and it's starting to look unlikely that anyone will offer anything approaching what we're asking for him. In my view that would be a good thing bearing in mind how thin we currently are in terms of quality throughout the side.
  11. Wouldn't touch Poveda with a bargepole. £10k p.w. for him to keep Ayala company in the treatment room? No ta.
  12. I think people make the mistake with Gallagher of thinking he's this up and coming young prospect who will improve whereas in reality he's 27 in a couple of months and isnt going to get any better. If we want to be successful Gallagher simply isn't good enough and imo if anyone offers the money back we paid for him or even 60% thereof we should snap their hands off. He's not on his own in not being good enough of course, it's far easier to count the players who are. Massive window still ahead.
  13. When Waggott was trying to flog off half of Brockhall, was it not established that we get a grant towards it's running of c £1.2m p.a.and that therefore it's actual cost to us is c £1.8m ?
  14. Even if RN was offered £8k p.w. the £1.5m fee we're allegedly paying for Brittain would more or cover RN's wages for 4 seasons! Irrespective of the footballing abilities of the respective players the situation makes zero financial sense. Hope Brittain signs and proves to be good enough to go some way towards justifying the financial hit. As far as Nyambe is concerned, for me he's been our most consistent performer overall over the last few seasons and I think he's been treated disgracefully by the Club. Can't help but wish him all the best in his future career and for something rather better than Wigan in due course.
  15. Unless we withdrew our offer towards the end, (which in a way you couldn't blame us for doing as you have to draw a line somewhere) he's not going anywhere else for substantially less is he? Seems far more likely he's signed a one year deal on slightly higher wages than the paltry terms offered here in the hope of possibly moving on again in 12 months. Risky strategy from his point of view. Might work spectacularly well or might blow up in his face if for example he picks up a bad injury. Not sure why Nyambe is getting pelters for leaving and Lenihan isn't, even though Lenihan turned down far more.
  16. Chris Price would cost a fortune in today's market. Personally I prefer defenders who can defend first and foremost, if they can contribute going forward that's a bonus. This notion that every full back can play like Trent Alexander Arnold is a bit of a myth imo, there's only a very select few at the very top of the game who are exceptional going forward and adequate defensively. Edit: Anyhow, spilt milk to an extent, let's hope we get Brittain in, let's hope he's a lot better than Zeefuick was who many people confidently predicted was also better than RN and let's hope we can get the other three top signings and four or five decent loans in we need. (Maybe) one down. Seven or eight to go.
  17. Why does being "an academy lad" make him any less worthy than aomeone who didn't come through the academy?. That sort of attitude is the crux of the problem with Nyambe imo. Seems to have been an assumption that because he was on a shit wage having coming through the Academy he was therefore only worth a relatively modest amount for his new deal whereas Lenihan was offered far more. Think we need to have an urgent rethink on the wage structure for Academy Graduates and concentrate on their actual value to their team rather than what they're currently on otherwise this will happen again and again.
  18. OK thanks. Personally I'd far rather have kept Nyambe but given he has gone, RB is now the biggest of a number of big holes in the squad so anyone coming in would be welcome. Given our track record in these things, I'll keep the champagne on ice until it's confirmed though. One positive, if the fee is £1.5m that would tend to be indicative of a decent budget having been made available given the number of positions that need filling.
  19. I know it was. Boro tenuously linked to Gallagher. They were also linked to Nyambe at one stage as well. You obviously don't rate Nyambe but are trying to use the fact that Boro are linked with Gallagher as proof he's a good-un because Wilder knows what he's doing etc etc. (The last bit I agree with so I'd be gob smacked if their alleged interest in Gallagher was serious)
  20. Haven't kept up to date with happenings today so apologies if I've missed anything obvious. Why all the excitement about Brittain, has he signed or have we merely been linked with him?
  21. They were interested in Nyambe as well weren't they? Who you seemingly don't rate so that rather defeats your argument. As for Gallagher, £3m and I'd drive him up there myself. And pay for the fuel. Even at £2 per litre.
  22. Great post, couldn't agree more. The supporters need to up the ante now and make it plain that muddling along on easy street is no longer acceptable and that the free ride aboard the Venky's gravy train without producing results has to stop. In the immediate term Waggott and Pasha need to give the new manager a chance and Broughton needs to pull his finger out of his backside and do what he was brought in to do.
