  1. Yeah, the England > Germany thing seems a bit like the Scotland > England thing, or Preston > Rovers. Means a lot more to one set of fans/people than the others. I go to Berlin a couple of times a year with work and I really like Germany, the people and the culture. The idea of animosity being passed down generations is fanciful at best.
  2. Yeah, this. Lets just pick our strongest 11 and go with that - let them get some cohesion together. From there, form / injuries / suspensions will give the other players chance to impress.
  3. Tuchel would be a decent appointment - streets ahead of any English candidates, possibly barring Eddie Howe (who is unlikely to leave Newcastle). Nationality doesn’t matter one iota if he’s the best man for the job and most likely to bring any level of success. Bit insular to think otherwise.
  4. My first game was in the Walkersteel, I guess you get the best view of the rest of the stadium (sitting in and looking out from the shed), but I'd suggest taking him to the JW Stand. Better views and you have all of the Family Stand stuff inside as well (consoles / face painting / etc). But he'll be fine and will enjoy it wherever you go. Fair play for bringing him. I live up on the hill behind the Fernhurst pub (about half a mile from the stadium) and we don't make it to every home game.
  5. Embarrassing. I'm actually quite chuffed for Greece, I thought they fully deserved that. But that's what you get when you appoint an absolute nobody.
  6. Greece should be 3-0 or 4-0 up - and deserved so, this is absolutely horrific. Even Lee Carsley surely didn't believe that Lee Carsley was the right man for this job.
  7. Agreed - change is inevitable, so you can either get upset by it or adapt. Things like this are at least partly driven by environmental/sustainability targets that all clubs will be held accountable to.
  8. Win your home games, draw your away games and you finish in the top 2. Obviously it's highly unlikely we'll be able to maintain this form over a season, but we are 7 games in now and averaging just over 2 points a game. 3 consecutive clean sheets and both ACD and Cantwell starting to get up to speed. Hard not to be a little bit optimistic at the moment. Well done JE, he has us well organised.
  9. Poor performance and poor quality game (massively impacted by the officiating), but in the context of the season so far, it's a decent point in an away game. Preston were very poor and yet we still failed to trouble their obscenely-soft GK (a strong gust of wind would have made him cry). Ref was poor from the start and had no control over the game whatsoever; he was looking to even things up all 2nd half - though Beck didn't need to kick out when he did. Hopefully that big fat lad for Preston gets a nice lengthy ban for the bite. I don't think anyone has been more critical of Pears than me on here, but very good in both of the last 2 matches.
  10. That's a complete contradiction - he's earning more money and playing first team football for teams in a higher division that us. And doing well; he was Sheffield's top scorer in the Prem last season. At this moment in time, Ben's decision to leave Rovers has paid off for him in every way.
  11. Ah yeah, it was definitely the 4-3 win, but it was the Andy Cole wasn't it? Was convinced Sukur played in that one, until I just checked the stats.
  12. The Sukur Fulham away game was on 12th April 2004 - I can never forget, as it was my 21st birthday (and I remember it being on the TV screens in the pubs I was in that evening) 😄
  13. Just catching up on the LET editorial standards (or lack thereof). I actually quite like listening to the lad's podcast on my work commute, but his pronunciation of 'think' (fink) and also 'thought' (fought) makes my skin crawl.
  14. He scored a really nice header at Stockport as well, seems to just have that knack in front of goal that players like Sam Gallagher just don't have.
  15. Thanks for clarifying this. Agreed on the other post about Dolan today, thought it was his best game in a while and he was more effectual with the ball than he has been for some time. His assist for Yuki's first was excellent work. And no, I don't want to bum him.
  16. I think today's win felt more comprehensive than the previous 2 (other than just the scorelines). They did have a couple of chances, which Pears and the defence dealt really well with, but we looked a lot more organised and cohesive today. What a fantastic start to the season - Eustace is very quickly eroding the doubts that I had about him, based on his tenure last season.
  17. Yes - and we look a bit less fragile than we did under JDT. Even Pears has had a good game today. Carter excellent as well.
  18. Ohashi's finishing today has been absolutely top class. Give Cantwell a debut and Tyjon a league debut in the last 15 and it's a bit of a perfect afternoon.
  19. What a waste of an opportunity. We do have the base of a squad good enough to win something, certainly over the coming few years. And we're putting this absolute nobody in charge.
  20. I've said this for a long time, the national team needs to be accessible to the whole country. It's pointless being stuck away in a south-east corner, particularly for midweek evening games. Play games at Villa Park, Old Trafford, Elland Road, Hillsborough, places like this.
  21. I'd suggest that's a very, very kind view of the Pears situation. It hasn't just been the many catastrophic individual errors like Sheffield at home (no professional GK should be conceding that), it's the general air of incompetence that he carries. His defence are constantly on edge and this regularly shows in their performances. Pears isn't close to being good enough as a Championship number 1 and I suspect he himself knows this, never mind the fans. Fingers crossed Toth is what we've been missing since we sold TK.
  22. I was one who was quite openly critical of JE, based on our performances under him last season. But the way we've started the season, he's certainly gone up in my estimation. And long may it continue.
  23. I wasn't able to get a ticket for today, so had to watch from home. Hopefully it was policed well and the nobheads kept apart from the proper fans who turned up. If you feel the need to punch another person in the head, because they support a different team to you, you shouldn't really be walking the streets unsupervised.
  24. Tell you something, that was a lot better of a derby showing than anything under JDT. Good point.
  25. Their goal was right down the middle, Pears dives away from it. He got away with a horrible clearance, straight to their lad and then the flap coming for a cross which their forward headed just wide, with an empty net to aim at. As I said, Pears will cost us this match. But we also need to start playing. Our tactics make us feel like we're playing a top-6 Premier League side. We're not and they're not. Bit of composure and quality and we can quite easily win this.
