But hope tells me there’s a chance of a decent midfielder and a forward, though it sounds like Undav doesn’t fancy the move, so pointless wasting time on him, if that’s the case. I’d love for us to add a couple of quality additions today, mainly to strengthen us. But a little bit just to make those having a meltdown look a bit silly. Morton has been on the bench plenty of times this season, most recently away to Norwich, a couple of games ago. I don't think for a second that there's any credence in that 'we're not allowed to drop him' rumour.

Hirst was an 'option to buy' - ie we could have still walked away. It's good business in the off-chance that he was decent and we got promoted; an agreed price was in place with Leicester.

Big Sam was never spoken to, sounded out or even on Everton's 2nd or 3rd options list. Bielsa was the most likely, but he had a change of heart after the face-to-face meetings and Dyche was next on the list. At the time of Dack being used as a bit part player, my hope was that we were being cautious with him and building him up to play his part in the second half of the season. And, either by good management or pure fluke, that's how it's seemingly ended up. But whichever way it happened, it's great to see him back in the team and doing what he does.

I'd stick Leonard up top - Vale hasn't been doing it and Leonard has been pretty consistent for the youth sides for some time now.

Joao is a strange one - had a red hot spell a couple of seasons ago for Reading, maybe even a good season. And he’s infinitely better than a Hirst or a Vale. But if Reading are allowing him to leave on a free, it’s not the most confidence inspiring move. But if he ended up being the last option available, I think he’d be a decent enough addition.

Some were (legitimately) predicting that we'd be in a relegation scrap this season, so to be sitting 4th a few days before February is a pretty fantastic achievement. So, I'd agree - we're no longer in the TM days, so we shouldn't fear a second half collapse.

I think this is a good point. Based on the likes of Vardy and Watkins (to name 2), there are clearly unpolished / undiscovered gems down in the non-league or lower divisions. Surely it's worth extensively scouting these areas and taking a punt here and there, rather than chase (seemingly) unobtainable targets.

Genuinely not bothered about the Scottish defender - somebody pointed out that he's pretty average for a mid table SPL side. And I'd much rather drop Philips into the side if any of the 3/4 first choice CBs aren't available - he'll develop into a far superior player. But we do need a midfielder and a striker, goes without saying.

It’s a good signing to me. When we beat them at Ewood earlier this season, I made the point (on here) that their LW really caught my eye - I’m sure it was Thomas. You’d like to think that he’s being brought in to supply whoever the new striker will be (Undav?). And if we can add a solid CM before the end of the window, that’ll represent a good window. Don’t really understand the ‘moan at whatever happens’ attitude; let’s just see how it plays out.
