  1. I don't know if there's anything in the Evan Ferguson thing, but he's as close to a young Alan Shearer as I've seen anybody in my lifetime. Absolutely top class and would guarantee us a top 6 finish, in my opinion. Which means there's no chance of him coming here.
  2. His mate has left the club, so he's back to the usual guess work.
  3. Absolute dog shit, that - from front to back. ACD one the one slight bright spark, but otherwise we could play for another 180 minutes and still not score. Tactics all wrong, players not on the same wavelength; the opposite of the Sunderland first half. Quite simply must be better in the next 2 games.
  4. Pretty dull game, but ACD has been lively. Pears has been poor this half, passing directly to their attackers on at least 2 occasions and dropping a standard catch. Luckily, he got away with all of them. We've set up as if we'd play to Gueye's strengths, yet haven't done that at all. He's been poor, to be honest. I'd shove Leonard on for the 2nd half, I'm sure he'd do better. Still one we should win, if we keep it tight at the back.
  5. You also couldn't have played him out wide, as Conway and Marshall were out-and-out wingers, with our style centred around getting the ball into the front 2 as quickly as possible.
  6. Yeah, what its called now - but from as far back as I go, it was always Walkersteel. So it's stuck in my head as the Walkersteel.
  7. I can't call it anything else, doesn't feel right. Walkersteel from as far back as I can remember and anything referencing the big man will do for me. Anything other than Walkersteel feels wrong to me, whatever they go on to rename it as.
  8. I had a look at a bit ago and I think had a 1-5 left in the JW, a small amount in the Walkersteel/Riverside and then around 100 on each flank of the Blackburn End Upper.
  9. I do like the idea of him as a 'second striker', behind Gueye, running onto flick-ons and picking up scraps. But I don't think we can afford to drop Cantwell; he's just got that extra bit of quality that, even if he has a crap game, he can pop up with a moment of magic.
  10. Imagine, for a brief moment, how this could play out under a club management team who knew what they were doing. Not just the Dingles game, but the opportunity to take advantage of this little burst of interest from new/lapsed fans. Shame.
  11. If you go back to the Gestede (playing) days, we set up with Conway and Marshall as true wingers, getting those crosses onto the big lad's head. I don't think we should revert back to that style of play, but suspect Gueye would probably score more with such an approach.
  12. Probably fanciful, but I felt like the feel good factor from the late equaliser could tempt some of the casual fans back to Ewood on a more regular basis. I know it's the Xmas period and people have more spare time / tickets as gifts / etc, but the fanbase is clearly still there, we just need to attract them back. Pleased to see Leonard score also today, I genuinely think there's a potentially good striker in there.
  13. Late one, didn't get chance to get on here yesterday (3 kids under 13...), but hope everyone had a good Xmas. And echoing the thanks to the staff and site management. I moderate another site as a PT gig and I know how much of a thankless task it is, so we appreciate what you do.
  14. Yeah, this. He cost us so many points last season, with his performances. However, aided by a much more organised defence this season, he's done well. Recent games especially, he's looked a very competent GK at this level.
  15. Have to say, that's a brilliant first half. Quick and aggressive in attack; if we had a forward who could finish, we'd be 3-0 or 4-0 up at HT. Haven't missed Trav, which is a big compliment to Baker and the back line are very well drilled. JE has this spot on so far. Big test of our intentions this season and, after 45 minutes, so far so good.
  16. Nope, his finishing ability is on par with Gallagher. He's aggressive and decent in the air, but he's shite in front of goal - genuinely not much difference in playing Maktar.
  17. Yeah, agreed - I understand keeping a winning side, but I think Beck on the left, ACD on the right and Cantwell would have been the best option. Hindsight, I guess.
  18. Always felt that was likely happen - just one of those games.
  19. Has been all season, in my opinion.
  20. You clearly didn't read what I actually wrote. We had not been anywhere near a relegation fight when JE took over. We'd spent the first portion of the season around the play off places. We played several teams around/below us at home under JE and failed to win a single game. As a result of the above, we went into the final game expecting to do down to League 1. We ended up staying up by the skin of our teeth. 'Delusional' would be trying to spin any of the above as a positive. And, once again, he's done an outstanding job this season. But let's not rewrite history.
  21. Honestly, I'd rather see a full Blackburn End than a half full Walkersteel / Riverside / whatever it's called these days. And it's good to see the numbers for this upcoming game, with plenty of time to sell more before the match. Shows how fickle football fans are. Success will always bring the people to the ground. If we were ever promoted back to the Prem, we'd be getting crowds like we did previously.
  22. Yes, I was, absolutely. For good reason. Our results - and performances weren't good enough. We had not been anywhere near a relegation battle when he came in. We ended up staying up by the skin of our teeth, courtesy of a freak result away to Leicester. Whitewashing history benefits nobody. And again, he's done excellently well this season. But I'm not going to pretend that his failure to win a single home game in that entire period of the season was anything other than a very closely avoided disaster.
  23. His record last season, as well as our general performances were very valid reasons to be critical. We did not win a single home game under him in the entire time he was here last season, despite playing several teams around/below us. I will caveat that with some very impressive away wins at Leeds and Leicester. However. This season has been an unmitigated success, to date. Early performances weren't the best, yet we still picked up some decent wins. Then following a little run of defeats, we've gone on this 6-game winning streak - and we have shown a bit of everything. Grit to grind out wins in dull games, flowing football leading some great team goals and we look a greater sum of our parts than we ever did under JDT (or TM). My gut feeling says that he's trying to leverage this wave of success by trying to find another job, either closer to his home, or in the Prem. But either way, this season I feel that he's answered a lot of questions some fans had about him. I think he's doing an excellent job right now.
  24. I've said this quite recently already, but it does concern me more than a little bit that JE's agent has JE linked with literally anything and everything. He's either going into business for himself, in the pursuit of the dollar, or JE has given him the instruction to do this. It's not a coincidence either way.
  25. I'm not being Rovers-biased when I say this, but he needs the rest of the season with us to continue his development. Ideally then another season with a mid-to-lower end Prem team before looking to establish himself as a first teamer for Liverpool. Definitely has the potential though, has the base of everything in his locker.
