On the player firstly, I have never heard of him like us all and we havent signed him and very well might not. But my issue is with having to fish for first teamers in such markets. A 26 year old (so not a young lad) who has from what I can see had one season in his career above the German 3rd division, in which he recorded a fairly underwhelming number of goals in the German second division. He may well sign and be a hiddem gem, but this is very unlikely to be the standard to which we can pluck the answer to our long standing striking isues. He may be the best we can afford, and thats the issue. I fear a season of struggling against the drop, our team has declined with key players leaving and a lot of money coming in and none being spent. We nearly went down last year and might not be as lucky this season. It seems we have very little scope for fees being spent, and if they are they will be nominal fees with low wages. It seems like we need to look for frees but again will struggle in that market with low wages and limitations on length of contract. So we then become heavily reliant on cheap loans. We have failed to conclude a single deal (are we the only Championship side?) with no sign of that changing. We may well pull one or two rabbits out of the hat, but with a squad that has been left so thin and lacking in quality, and with it being so hard to recruit any decent players, what can we really expect? Would you expect a player with 1 season above the German 3rd tier and an average goal record even then at the age of 26 to come in and bang in the goals to make a big difference in the Championship? Its one hell of an ask. An utterly nonsensical argument. Obviously we need players, but we need players of a certain standard. We shouldnt just be grateful to see any warm bodies in the building. If he signs he will be backed. The team will be backed so we dont need to portray fans as bad guys. This guy might sign and he may well turn into a steal, who knows. But its understandable that peoples concerns continue to grow.

I don't think Southgate deserves the level of vitriol but we definitely need someone more tactically canny, especially as they will struggle to match the same level of luck in draws. Tuchel apparently wants the job and he has experience of winning the Champions League with not an elite Chelsea team.

It is going to be a difficult job because expectations are going to be to win the next tournaments off the back of 4 tournaments whereby our draws on the whole have been very favourable. We have made the quarter final in the last 4 tournaments, once we faced France and lost, in the other 3 we got Ukraine, Switzerland and Sweden which you would take any day at that stage. Even Croatia, Denmark and Holland as semi final opposition is avoiding the big hitters. That won't be indefinite and we have come up short against the elite.

I really hope we dont just give the job to someone like Carsley, an FA moulded non controversial type or someone like Potter. Klopp etc are the ideal but even a Tuchel would be a good appointment. The English management pool is dry sadly.

I can't get my head around the logic that we shouldn't consider a foreign manager because of the failings of 2 individuals who just happened to be foreign. An English manager would be ideal but the pool is so small hence why people like Carsley and Potter are mentioned. I don't rate Sigurdsson and I also don't agree with letting players run their deals down but if he does stay, perhaps he can be back up to Szmodics. So one less. JRC was really good at right back under Tomasson, not sure a couple of friendlies means he will play as a winger nor how he would adapt. The academy should be used to supplement the first team, not under pressure to fill numerous spaces a year in the absence of new players. Travis, Rankin Costello and Carter are important first team players, Scott Wharton would be, Adam Wharton has just brought in a big fee, Buckley can be part of the squad too unless it is felt he is better moving on. And its a long season, if any of the others break through then great, although there is no evidence that they are ready to immediately, nor should there be pressure to. Two have ongoing injury issues, Garrett needs a loan and the others can benefit from a mixture of loans or being around the squad and should they impress then they can still have a chance without an unhealthy expectation that they have to be ready now. Im not saying never play them, I am saying we shouldnt assume that they will come through together and all be up to it, we need a bigger squad. But because we are skint thats unfortunately what will be expected.

I think we are short of double that. Our squad is miniscule. Basically a new team. Goalkeeper is obvious. Centre back, ideally 2. Left back, right back unless we consider JRC a full time RB where he played his best football, but we dont. A midfielder who can pass a ball. 2 quick wingers. Back up for Szmodics. And obviously a striker. Then you have Szmodics, Dolan and Gallagher. If the former goes, a costly replacement. The other 2 should go unless they sign new deals, not that Gallagher should get one unless its on massively reduced wages which he wouldnt expect. We will just get a bit of cheap padding.
