  1. His Championship record is very good, a proven track record. I think in the Premier League it is a little bit too far for him but in fairness, they stayed up and Potter hasnt tangibly improved them in the table but is lucky to have the reputation of a youthful, forward thinking coach when indeed they havent really tangibly improved under him. Whereas Hughton is a more old school and has the temerity to not even get defenders like Dunk, Webster and when they had him Duffy to pass it out from the back. Thats the modern fad.
  2. Not relevant to the point I was making regarding it being too early. Spending money on improved scouting infrastructure is a positive move. But it doesnt mean that there is no risk of signing poor players.
  3. I definitely dont think you can use win percentages as a tool. Managers all have their own unique CV in terms of the teams they have managed, the resources they have had etc. You can never make like for like comparisons.
  4. Very good choice by Forest. Still, we should be looking to win at home to them. We are 6th, theyve lost every game, their squad is massively overloaded with defensive midfielders, lets get the win.
  5. I agree that permanent signings are preferable any day. But surely its not just that, its no use if they turned out crap! Walton permanently wouldnt be positive. One is totally unknown to everyone. On Kaminski we have a bit more knowledge and a start of 5 games that can make is very optimistic. The one im excited about is Ayala still. Hes one that we know what we are getting, well almost certain.
  6. My point was more that at this stage we dont necessarily know that whilst the spots may have been filled, or hypothetically in your scenario, we dont know yet if they are going to fill them adequately. The main one who we can be surest of based on knowledge is Ayala. Kaminski is still in the questionable stage, I dont mean that negatively, but hes only played 5 games in which hes had barely anything to do. What he has done has looked good so promising signs there. The sub keeper, yes hes permanent, but none of us have ever heard of him! Only a select few have of the LB, with mixed reviews, and the loan is unnamed. Dolan, a very bright bonus ball but again so early. Its not me criticising the summer business you mention, its just that especially signing players from abroad, we have no idea of their success. I think that all of Mowbrays main transfer windows have been mixed. His main success has been more the use of the players he already had, especially in the promotion season or indeed youngsters, Travis being the best recent example. Spending 5m on Gallagher massively tarnishes last summer. So does the goalkeeping debarcle. Holtby and Johnson didnt have particularly impressive seasons either, but may come good a year later. At the moment, they are under ok. Downing and Adarabioyo for a year were very shrewd. So a mix. Summer before, another disaster in Brereton. Davenport hasnt started a game, failure. Rothwell has flattered to deceive throughout, at best hes in the middle. Armstrong has turned into a bargain. Reed a good loan albeit misused, Palmer an awful one. So mixed. And as you say, the one prior promotion, like the one the following year had a bargain, brilliant signing. Also Smallwood was very good for a year. Lots of poor signings otherwise, Samuel at 500k, Gladwin, Hart, Caddis etc. I mainly took issue to concluding so soon that the window was the best whe its so early and players we had never heard of who have not played are included in such a statement. Wasnt that only said by chief wind up merchant Mercer?
  7. The majority of recent windows have included big blunders so I suppose the benchmark is low, but that is a big statement. Kaminski is still an unknown, very early days, hes not had loads to do but in the main has looked good so far. Ayala a big coup, the kid as back up goalkeeper we are totally in the dark about, and again we dont know much about that Aleesami or indeed an unknown loan. Especially on the back of some unknowns from Europe, it is impossible to judge at this stage.
  8. Yep, signed but it wont come of anything any time soon sadly.
  9. Yep, very much a box ticked more than anything to get excited about. Unlikely to play but hopefully a talent for the future as well as competent back up. Like everyone else, not the foggiest who he is but hopefully a gem. Left back please, and ideally someone for the wide areas.
  10. To be fair, people have ambitions and dreams, rarely are they to play for a team destined for relegation but on a decent wage, and indeed the City captaincy always seemed to come under the category "dreams."
  11. Is Aleesami highly probable? It said in there yesterday that nothing has been offered, nor has any interest been confirmed.
  12. His contract is up at the end of the season I think.
  13. But even if you put the deadline back 6 weeks, everything is relative, the same transfers would get done. Just seems to reward teams not having their affairs in orders or prompts panic buys.
  14. Surely the selling team would adjust and buckle sooner or not sell in that scenario? Knowing there isnt an "extension" to fall back on. Makes no sense giving teams an extra 2 hours when they have had months. These deal sheets are more often than not for last minute panic loan deals. Like I said, if we benefit, great but there is no logic to it.
  15. There should be a rule, if its all done by the designated time, good, if not, youve had months so tough.
  16. Not with Rovers specifically, although i am happy if we benefit from it, but it is absolutely stupid that you can get an extension to a window that has been open for months.
  17. Why is there this running joke that it wont count as a European signing? It was one solitary comment from someone who comes on here purely to provoke. (Mercer) Holtby was before the scouting network was established wasnt it? This will be a second one and im sure we will sign before. As it stands, it is only 1 as of yet, 2 if you count Holtby. Of course we have no idea if the signings are successful yet. As for the player, like everyone else I know zilch about him. Hope the fee is low in terms of ensuring that we have the resources to get a left back to start, not compete, but it will tick a box that we needed as a sub keeper for sure. May not play all season but we know that Fisher isnt up to being a deputy so makes sense and it would be the goalkeeping situation sorted.
  18. Whilst actually adding new players is exciting, the transfer window and especially transfer deadline day is a total ballache. People pestering journalists on social media every day, every hour, any transfer news, any news, as if someones gonna turn around and say yeah Rovers are about to sign someone I just forgot to mention. The folk at Sky Sports rolling around like pigs in shit, Jim White, Darmesh Sheth, Kaveh Solekal acting as if they have loads of top secret information. Fake ITK attention seekers who must have a very sad life. When did it become like this? They should shorten the window, well before the season starts. 4 games in and we are no closer to doing half of our business. Same with many others. Chaos.
  19. This is the biggest load of crap I have seen on this forum in some time! I havent heard these fog horn know nowts berating their pet hate which I should be able to seeing as they can be heard all around the pitch. And "aggressively critical?!" Have a word with yourself.
  20. No, if a transfer story breaks he is rarely at the start of it, but unlike Crooke he seems to have a direct line to be able to deny targets that can be dismissed rather than cryptically speculate, and is less cryptic in his answers to queries. Off on a tangent slightly but I dont get why people set up accounts to put up false rumours. Being a genuine journalist would be a nightmare with all of the people on there harassing for rumours, updates, "announce" requests etc. Must be an ego thing because its chaos.
  21. His stories very much are re hashed stories from other sources, whilst his responses to the bloody thirsty transfer mob on twitter asking about rumours every day cause a bit more problems, he usually tries to get a best picture from whats in public domain and be as a cryptic and non committal as possible to make it look like he knows what he is on about.
  22. That would be worry, raw ability and Amarii Bell arent things I would put in the same sentence!
  23. My point is that as a team, we struggle to break teams down that sit in behind the ball. We played at far too low a tempo, constantly passing sideways playing safe passes, and lacked the personnel to get much in the away of serious opportunities. There was no late flurry of chances or proper pressure and the game fizzled out, which we have seen before with the onus on us to score. You dont have to come to a staunch defence of the manager as if I was saying he should have specifically done x and y. I was just pointing out an area that I think we need to improve, or a point of weakness.
  24. The majority of us including you have never heard of him or seen him, have we? Couple of Scandinavians on here who are definitely worth listening to with mixed reviews. Havent seen anyone else say he is or isnt good enough, but being a Norway international doesnt automatically make him a good signing. Or indeed a bad one.
