I doubt we will have any money in January so it will be difficult to strengthen. Eustace wants a striker, he said as such recently. Gestede signed a donkey last time he tried to address that, but would we be willing and able to try and move Gueye on, would our main summer signing just become 3rd choice if not, and would Gestede be able to sign anyone with any use with potentially less money than he signed Gueye with?

If you are reading them as criticism when I have repeatedly said that its a compliment to the manager then that is on you. Eustace is a pragmatic, defensively focused manager and is managing a side that has some solid players in it but one that due to budget cuts is lacking in goalscorers and lacking in pace. Therefore his approach suits the players we have and that is shown by the results. I wasnt specifically on about yesterday (I enjoyed both the game and mainly the result) and I dont understand how my comments are being seen as negative. Im not saying, its boring and we need to change. His pragmatic approach is the best approach with the players at his disposal.

Your problem is that you are so on guard to defend Eustace that you often misinterpet what people are saying as if its a criticism. I think another poster (maybe arbitro but apologies if not) said something similar the other day. Ive always said that its all about results, I am satisfied after a scrappy win and never satisfied by a high scoring open loss. As you said, I criticised Tomasson for continuing with his "principles" last season, something you couldnt possibly question at the time as he was the current manager. You look around and teams often play in a way not suiting their squad, I saw the highlights of Wolves giving away 3 stupid penalties yesterday after Gary O'Neil was persisting with playing out from the back. Ridiculous. I dont think our attacking players are particularly good, Cantwell is obviously a talent but otherwise we lack goals, we lack pace and we lack real quality there. Symptomatic of the owners lack of investment of course. My point is that I think a manager like Eustace, he comes across as quite dull and his teams dont play "exciting" football, but his strengths lie in organisation and his teams play more pragmatic and defensive football. That is the type of manager that suits our current situation because we dont have the players to play expansive and open football, and that was my point. The fact that Eustace doesn't have stubbornness towards the sort of style that most teams try to play regardless of whether they are capable of it is a positive, and its leading to good results. Im not sure why you have taken out that comment about not playing "thrill a minute" football and spun it as if I am demanding us to start playing like that. Also on Pears. Obviously we would prefer someone like Kaminski was for us, he was better than Pears and saved us points. But for Pears to go from absolute liability to someone who only once or twice has us goals this season with mistakes is a notable improvement which I am crediting him for. He no longer is a glaring weakness in our team.

The one at Norwich was Pears' fault. As the keeper, he can see everything so it was stupid to make the pass and fortunately I think it was Tronstad again who bailed him out. But he isnt making anything other than occasional goal costing mistakes this season with a few scares around that. He is having a good season off the back of a woeful one. He deserves credit for the imrpovement and has got it. Like I said yesterday goalkeeper has gone from being the main thing people wanted in the summer to not something mentioned ahead of January.

Perception of Raya IMO has been skewed by how good he has become in the many years since. He was very raw and young here and made plenty of mistakes in the season we came up to the Championship prior to his departure. It was obviously short sighted to let him go but even when he initially joined Brentford in that first season he was still making mistakes, notably one at Hull and also one in the play off final that cost them promotion. A mixture of experience, expert coaching and exposure to playing at the highest level has of course turned him into a totally different proposition. Had he stayed here he wouldnt be the same keeper. Kaminski was excellent in the most part here. He won player of the season once and in his final season, he kept us in so many games (the Birmingham one at home stands out) but got an unfortunate injury which in the final couple of games prior to an extended spell on the sidelines, he made a couple of mistakes when he was carrying that injury. He then was never reinstated and moved on. To suggest that the Sheffield Wednesday mistake was an isolated mistake by Pears would be absolute rubbish. Last season he made so many, he chucked one into his own net against Ipswich in the home game prior, he also made 2 mistakes at Plymouth, one at home to Hull, one away at Preston, one away at Swansea and one or two away at Ipswich that led to goals. Maybe more. He was an absolute liability last season, regularly costing us goals. This season he made one at Coventry but otherwise the mistakes leading to goals (he has still had shaky moments, today v Leeds and a worse one at Norwich stand out) have been cut from his game and he deserves credit for that. He had a very much warranted reputation as a calamity who regularly cost us goals. Thankfully he has stopped doing that and the narrative is changing. When people mentioned in the past where we needed to strengthen, everyone said in net. Now they say other positions so he is gaining trust.

The point was that he is currently making the saves youd expect him to make, without being like Kaminski and making outstanding saves he has no right to save. And crediting him from going from a keeper who was making mistake after mistake last season (many of which cant just be fobbed off as down to us being open and less not as hard to play against, some where under Eustace) to one who is no longer making repeated unforced errors. Thats praise as its a considerable improvement and doesnt have any negative connotations.

The acid test might be whether we can sustain these levels across the season as that tends to be the issue. Eustace like Tomasson and Mowbray before has started the season well but its whether an underfunded squad can maintain it across 46 games. He is definitely the type of manager that is the right one for the situation we are in. He comes across as fairly mundane and his teams certainly dont play exciting thrill a minute football but the way he has the team organised and structured is really proving to be effective despite a lack of firepower. It feels like he is dripping them for everything they have got. There were question marks last season because he didnt win barely at all especially at home, but we are able to now. I dont think that Pears is anywhere Kaminski levels, Kaminski used to save us points and save things you wouldnt necessarily expect him too. Pears doesnt, take today (ignoring his wayward kicking and first half mistake) the saves he made were routine, same with the catches, youd expect him to make them. That has pretty much been the case all season, aided by being afforded far better protection. The difference comes in the goals he has conceded, last season there were so many that he let in that he simply shouldnt have done. This season, there have been maybe 1 or 2 that I can remember, very occasional mistakes. This may sound critical or at best a back handed compliment, but to go from regularly chucking in goals he should routinely save to now saving shots he should and letting in ones that he wouldnt be expected to save is an improvement I wasnt expecting, so fair play to him.

Obviously Mowbray wasnt hapless. But Waggott by all accounts was the one who identified Eustace. Bet thats a real headscratcher for you.

Im not defending Waggott, he is a Venkys puppet. But we have had big reason in the last 3 winters to spend in January, last time armed with a club record sale. Every time, its been the odd loan and nominal fee. Why would it be in Waggott's best interests not to be promoted? He would probably get a pay rise. You constantly deflect away from the source of our problems and its bizarre.

Fantastic result again built on real organisation and grit. The team is set up to be so solid and its a shame that the owners were again not forthcoming in backing him. We did make a couple of silly errors in defence trying to pass it in the wrong areas, Pears made a save after a ridiculous pass and Batth also nearly cost us a goal but our general shape and willingness to defend were excellent. Dolan had a rare good game (in particular in the first half) and perhaps deserved his man of the match award or at least a shout. Cantwell was wasteful with 2 chances but is the stand out player with his ability and we have to desperately hope that he hasnt picked up an injury at the end. Ohashi had to score in the first half but did some good work before the downgrade to the woeful Gueye who gets worse in every game he plays. Beck is such a good player and definitely better than Hedges. All of the defenders were really good and Travis and Tronstad are a really good partnership for a Eustace side. Both of them were shouts for man of the match and its a shame that Travis got a stupid yellow.

Still not grasping it. What happens in Jan depends solely on the owners putting their hand in their pockets, and they never have before, court case or no court case. Nothing to do with the puppets.

Who was it that said that running out of kits early is actually really good?

People often speak as if holding midfielders go unnoticed and its only those who understand football who appreciate him. Yet everyone bar RevidgeBlue (whose bias comes from not liking who signed him) really rates Tronstad so its not as if his role isnt understood. Extreme example but Rodri recently won the balon d'or to which the majority agreed with and hes a holding midfielder.

I've not seen much of Sigurdsson's "clear ability" I have to say.

Im not sure with our limited resources that playing a decent amount necessarily means that the manager rates a player. Hyam should be signed up, good Championship defender when not being asked to play in a wide open team. Weimann and Batth should wait until the end of the season, no reason to rush considering their age. Hedges I dont see the merit realy of keeping even allowing for budget restrictions.

I think the main reason that RevidgeBlue doesnt like Tronstad is because of who signed him. He hated Broughton with a passion. Not a member of staff im sad to have seen leave either, although as ever some was deflection for whatever reason away from the owners. Tronstad is very good at this level at doing what he does. Easily one of if not our best player.
