Don't agree with lumping Whittingham and Murphy together. Whittingham was a good signing on paper that didn't work out, it happens. Murphy was a malevolent, wilfully disruptive influence on an already fragile squad. Personally am also cautiously optimistic with Downing. His character seems of the type to help rather than hinder and Boro fans seem to think he still has something to offer. As many have said, as a Conway replacement he's a step up.

Raya thing, depends who we bring in to replace him. If it's a John Ruddy-type then, providing we get a good fee with a sell-on, i'm not against it. Raya is a long-term project and if our aim is to go up in the next season or two we probably need better than he is right now. I say we persevere with Raya. He's still so young for a keeper and I think really has saved us as much as he's cost us. He needs to learn from his mistakes and evolve as the seasons progress but i think he's got it in him. I agree he needs better competition and someone more experienced to work with though. A Camp or a Westwood type would be perfect.
