  1. And some of the "punters" are very pleasant as well :-)
  2. I agree with you Paul re The Dressers. It was a great pub but it is now soulless and full of the same brickabrack that adorns too many pub walls. The beer is also so so. If going for a beer I prefer the Top Lock, for food it is now The Royal Oak although that has not always been the case. Although I should add I did have a pleasant time after the last game of last season when 20 or so of us had a few beers after the game.
  3. I could always phone up and say my name is Mrs Bowyer. How would they know?
  4. We need to lineup Abbey followed by Jock to call in after the next home game.
  5. Does anyone know what the odds are on Rovers being relegated. It looks a good bet at present.
  6. ....and the fish stall on Blackburn Market.
  7. The owner/manager is Michael and the chef is his Brother. The property is owned by Trevor Hemmings. When it was the Red Cat restaurant the people who ran it were those now at the Royal Oak. Years ago it used to be one of the best pubs for miles around. Excellent. The owner is mad on Chorley FCand is on their Board. Good beer, good food, always busy.
  8. I actually make a point of posting quality service on TA. It works both ways and I have had some lovely follow up comments from hotels and eateries. Mind you some of the TA posters are bonkers, bit like this MB. I am back at the Harbourmaster in Aberaeron in a couple of weeks. Great food and the table is already booked. The village has 1,200 residents and 3 great places to eat......heaven. I will be at the Royal Oak on Friday and will relay this to the owner.....he will take it off me. As you say not good enough.
  9. Try the Oyster Bar in the basement of Grand Central Station in NYC.....ace! Also had decent ones New Orleans.
  10. London: try Brizzies about 250meters from Euston Station on Drummond Street (by all the Indian places). It is the best Italian meal in London for around £15 or less. I go at least once per week and love the place, and the waitress!!
  11. You are right about about Northcote o2g, every meal I have had has been outstanding; the accommodation equally so. I am really looking forward to the night.....apart from the bill but you only live once!! My daughter went to L'Enclume a few weeks back and said the food was "stunning". She was however unhappy with the noisy plumbing at the accommodation and made a formal complaint, they only offered £50 off the bill.
  12. Just booked an overnight at Northcote for me, the Mrs, my oldest daughter and her husband to be. It has always been superb before and better had be again.
  13. .....or investing in business growth?
  14. I took a big punt and bought a lot of shares in Sirius Minerals who had a planning application accepted today for a potash mine in the North Yorks National Park. This will be so important for jobs and investment. What a pity LCC are so short sighted.
  15. Lancs County Council will rightly get overruled. It could be a costly vote for which us LCC taxpayers will no doubt have to pick up the tab.
  16. I agree about Paul Heathcote, it is toss pot food. Chap I know was one of his chefs and left when Heathcote dumbed down to microwaves.
  17. "Ping" restaurants....is that how Heathcotes went? Microwave chicken?
  18. Not listened to Radio Rovers garbage for at least 2 years. The only benefit of the station is for those unable to get to Ewood such as the elderly and disabled. For that reason alone it should be kept.
  19. Brilliant game. Union is not even at the same level.
  20. I agree about the Royal Oak (my local) Paul. I had a fantastic ox cheek there a week or so ago. However the Clog and Billycock is also in good again. I went Friday luch and it was super as was the previous two visits; it was poor about 18 months ago but is back on form. The spring special menu was good. The Travellers Rest is run by a Rovers fan!!
  21. £1,300 including wine and a couple of Ardbegs. It was a special Birthday and she is worth it :-). Suppose I could have got myself a ST in the Rao's box for that.
